  1. Color me shocked. I am not a huge fan of his on field decisions, but he clearly does something right in the clubhouse most of the time. I feel bad for the person, but I did feel it was time. Every organization needs new voices after a while. Good luck to Mr. Gardenhire in whatever he decides to do next. Good luck to all of the other coaches also. Finally, good luck to the team in finding replacements.
  2. Toronto needs to shed salary. Philly should, but won't. Cincy should, but may not be wiling to admit it. Tampa's owner has already said they need to cut payroll (man, I feel sorry for that FO). Those would be my guess.
  3. they'll also have gone from 70 some wins to a good season last year, and a very good season this year. People seem to forget that teams need to sell tickets and provide results. They Royals did that the last two years. I don't think they would have w/o the trade.
  4. Sure, in a better world, the Twins sign an elite FA......but we don't live in that world, do we?
  5. Not to mention Sano might be your RF some day soonish.......
  6. I'm pretty sure the inclusion of Deunsing indicates you missed some sarcasm.....
  7. Note very team, apparently.......how about 2, how do you feel about a 2 year rebuild?
  8. But the Royals would not be in the playoffs, would still be under 80 wins probably, and would still be waiting another year to try to be good....oh, right, that was your point. Keeping Myers (who can't defend and doesn't fit their strategy) and Odorizzi was a bad idea. I agree.
  9. And what should they do with the other 20+ million dollars they have? Money should not be a limiting factor here at all. Just checked Fangraphs, Andre Ethier is a bad defender, not a good defender. He has 1 year where he did not have a negative defensive rating, and that was a 0.1 rating.
  10. Not entirely true, they've been drafting pitchers to take over when Shields is gone....they still have a decent farm system. People keep typing "they won't have any pitching when Shields leaves", and that just isn't true. Also, Wil Meyers is not good on defense. He does not fit their strategy of run prevention at all. Maybe that is one reason they traded him. they also felt, wrongly, that their other hitters would progress (like everyone here seems to think young players in MN will do). One thing that bothers me in this thread.....the statement, like it is a fact not an opinion, that trying to jump from 75 wins to the playoffs in less than 5 years is wrong.....that's an opinion, not a fact.
  11. Young was not short term thinking, it was just wrong thinking.
  12. KC was filled with "can't miss" prospects that missed. I don't understand the utter fear of dealing minor league players for proven MLB talent. Nick's right, the goal posts have been moved the last two years here, at what point do they stop moving, and you actually try to be good? What if they stink again next year, should the fans and the owners just wait another year to try to be good? Just keep moving the goal posts?
  13. We have no idea what Pohlad really thinks....None.
  14. Oh, and I'd move Goodrum to LF ASAP.....and make him a great defender that can steal. Span light, with more speed. Although, I'd consider leaving him at 3B.....but he should be in AA next year.
  15. Of these, I like Turner and Reed the most for some reason.
  16. Oh, I still think he can be a RP.....but not sure he needs protecting.
  17. I'd not protect Wimmers at this point. And, I was a big supporter of him coming back this year......
  18. Except you are arguing that Gardy's decisions months ago cost Hughes the money, not in the last week or so...... the guy has let it go, and said he doesn't deserve the money, not sure why fans can't realize the same thing.
  19. So? Gardy didn't do anything to keep him from getting it, he did stuff to win games. If he asked Dozier to bunt late in a game, and he fell a hit short of a bonus, would you pay Dozier?
  20. I read Hughes comments as a clear shot at Suzuki playing over pinto. Clear as day.
  21. so, should they give Santana more money, since he was way better than expected and outearned his pay? Should they give the ticket people money because they sold tickets in a terrible year, even if they didn't meet their goals? he got 2 bonuses already.....this is a third. Where do you draw the line? 1 out? 4? 10?
  22. He's been very good offensively in the second half this year, now that he is healthy.....do people trust Kemp to stay healthy?
  23. He did not earn it....should they pay everyone that came close? that's not how incentives work in companies.
  24. Right, SD....they wanted those two split up to get them both time. It was a good decision, IMO. I think they COULD be in the same town, and split C and DH, depending on needs of others to DH. Maybe even play some 1B......but keeping them split for another year (at least to start) seems to make sense (not having thought much about other C options.....).
  25. I agree, top 5 is probably not reasonable as a threshold for firing.....I would "encourage" the signing at that level though.
