  1. I don't see how trading a declining, expensive player, indicates anything about Tampa's direction with any certainty.
  2. That's what I said up a few pages. Most money, lots of years.
  3. Agreed on the players htey lose.....not agreed on keeping a guy on the 25 man for too long.....let's hope they learned from last year.
  4. What big fish will they get, if they don't want to pay market rates?
  5. interesting. thanks. I figured that bonus was part of his major league salary for the year, but maybe not.
  6. Not sure the taxes work that way, but even if they do, I can't see the Twins or anyone giving out a signing bonus like that.
  7. I do. But he is the top free agent. The way to win the bidding is to win the bidding. I am just being realistic here. It's about the money. These posts never once mentioned anyone being cheap. I never implied it either. The point is simple, if you want the most expensive asset, you have to pay up.
  8. Creative? How about just pay the most?
  9. Why do people keep saying three years on relief pitcher deals? Haven't nearly all the deals been one or two years? How are we to trust the front office to be great pitching evaluators, if we don't think they are smart enough to find a relief pitcher to sign for more than one year?
  10. You go thru more than half the year with bad relief pitchers then.
  11. Because he's not all that good, and they'll just have to fix the problem again next year.....
  12. He wears is that easy in honor of his dead father....
  13. Ah.i thought he was older than that. Dang, he's going to cost a lot.
  14. I actually think they are going: 6/144 with Darvish. Those last two years will suck....but the first four will hopefully be worth it.
  15. just like the minor leaguers... most will be injured or bad. See last year. I like some of the internal guys, I was calling for them to be promoted faster, or moved to RP faster, than Ryan or this FO did. But, I don't see a lot of needle movers. Maybe Jay, but counting on him to be healthy seems like a pretty risky bet.
  16. No, they signed old players last year, to flyers, and also relied on teh guys they had, plus they added a bad rule V pick. This is deja vu.
  17. I also remember many saying signing old, not good, players, and relying on the guys they had wouldn't fix the bullpen, and it didn't. People love to point out how not signing FAs is great, but rarely look at how well relying only on internal options works, or doesn't.
  18. Klaw on his insider on teh rule V: Burdi offered the best combination of future value ad potential not to screw up your current roster. nothing on the Twins' pick.
  19. To be clear, signing a guy coming off tommy john, that won't pitch this year maybe=good. Signing any RP to a two year deal = bad. Is that the argument people are making? Pineda is a great signing, but signing any of the RPs this year for two years is bad?
