  1. I agree, if he's hte 2nd best RP they acquire, it will be meh, rather than annoying.
  2. two years for a good RP is somehow that much worse than 1 year of a mediocre, old, one?
  3. Blech. I don't know why people care about it being cheap. For another 2MM a year they could have had a good RP. Why do people care it was cheap? They had a bad bullpen last year, and they are pretty much doubling down on last year's strategy. Cheap old veteran and rule V pick....
  4. Or he could take up a roster spot for half the year, with the manager refusing to use him.....
  5. Rodney? Yuck. Gotta admit, given their signings last year, and last year's rule V pick.....not a fan of the FO and their approach to RP at all. Hope to be wrong....
  6. How does that work compared to relying solely on the minors? You need relief pitchers.....
  7. I just want a short leash this time. He's either worth a playoff team keeping around for sure, or cut him. He's nearly 27, it's not like he's young and has 2-3 years to figure it out. Me? I kind of hoped they'd add major league pitching this year......
  8. The relief pitcher article. It states, and some have agreed, they should mostly rely in internal options, and maybe sign a cheap flyer or two...The same opinion expressed last year, actually. It's not like I am alone in my opinion on that thread, Chief has posted in there echoing this thought about that thread.
  9. Or, they don't spend as much next year on good players, in the hope he is good, and he's not. We have entire threads on not spending six million on a relief pitcher, let alone eight .. Let's hope the team isn't as conservative with it's money as many here think they should be.
  10. Or, the Rays could just take Kohl Stewart in the upcoming draft for free.... I'd think Archer would cost two of their top pitching prospects, whatever hitter the Rays wanted, and one more mid tier player. Me? No way Jay is on that list if I'm the Rays. I take Gonsalves, the AA pitcher they most want, Lewis, and Kiriloff. Archer is practically signed for free, compared to what a pitcher of his quality costs.
  11. Hannah Hochevar 1:58 I like both, but do you prefer Smyly or Pineda for TJ return? Eno Sarris 1:58 Smyly had a crappier, longer injury history going in, so I guess that's an argument for Pineda. But Pineda had labrum surgery way back when, so I'll take Smyly.
  12. Probably.... Not sure what that has to do with tying up money or not. It's money. Already spent. On an injured player. I find it fascinating the response, given other threads. Nothing more or less. Like I said, I like it. But then, I think the Twins have plenty of money to spend.
  13. Not in the relief pitcher thread..... People are typing they'd rather only sign flyers than pay market rates. This is market rate for a relief pitcher. I find it a fascinating signing. Really not what the old guard would do. Assuming it doesn't stop them from spending elsewhere, I think I like it.
  14. There is an entire thread starting signing any relief pitcher for market rate is a bad idea..... They have locked in the price of a good relief pitcher next year, on a guy that might not pitch this year. And, I don't think it does, I was talking about all the posts and threads here worrying about spending any money, basically.
  15. Joe 12:35 Do you like the Smyly's or Pineda's 2/10 deal better from the team perspective? Dave Cameron 12:35 Pineda Would love to see what he looks like in relief when he gets back at end of this year.
  16. Creative. Would be nice to get legit help for this year too. For a group of people that worry about payroll flexibility, this board sure is high on the move.
  17. No chance I trade two pitchers for 1 year of Machado. Zero. Nada. Nil. Zilch. I can't even imagine why the Twins would do that.
  18. Two series titles ...... Yes, the interim was very bad.... But two titles.
  19. Lots of people questioned the Haley move, when he was taken/traded for, and during the year. This isn't simple hindsight.
  20. I would guess that kills many of the trade opportunities. Why Rooker? Or even Lewis?
  21. Dozens of games on the roster. It is the roster spot some of us didn't like.
  22. Hate to lose Gordon, but Wade and Granite are the same to me. Jay might be great, or never heathy. I probably do that deal, but only if the plan is to also add a free agent or three. Two years is very short term, so if you do this, you should commit money too.
