  1. the longer you wait, the more expensive it gets, if they are good.
  2. Yes, this worked out very well so far...... Also, Celgene was just BLOWN UP for missing on a drug.......but I don't think 35% of it's value was in that one drug. If you like to bet money, I think this is a decent short term bet. Had I moved faster this afternoon, I would have made 4-5% today alone......That said, this is NOT advice, let alone good advice.....it's just what I'm likely to do tomorrow with a few K.
  3. Ya, if people are going to rip the Mauer thing, they should also rip the Dozier thing.....
  4. And yet, people will post how so and so won X award, as if it proves something.....like manager of the year, or gold glove.....No one even knows how to measure managers, yet people site that all the time....at least with GG we have decent measures (that show Mauer should be a finalist).
  5. mostly luck and CF defense and regression from several players, not 1 player.... People really vastly underestimate luck or randomness in sports
  6. No way you trade a potential superstar position player for a very good SP. edit: Oops, I see I read that wrong! so, Archer plus a RP plus Escobar>Sano is the question.......
  7. Well, they've shown "on average" is not how it works. That's the max, even when they are way below that for a few years. Given the FO's talk, I doubt that changes in any meaningful way.
  8. As much as I love Kepler, I don't sign him. Even in the era of the live ball, he shows limited power. I'd try on Rosario, but he is a high beta player for sure, and people vastly over estimate his running and defense, imo. I like the idea of the Escobar deal, they need 3B/Sano insurance.
  9. Because people don't like to spend more money early....because they want to pass the costs to later years. Because players bitch and moan that they are underpaid in the latter years, ignoring they got more money early. Because of years of "it's cheaper to pay in the future than the near term" due to high inflation and interest rates. Lots and lots and lots of reasons.
  10. Really, you should yourself time and put that in your sig.....
  11. Somehow I had forgotten the Miller trade. Sigh. So, both teams are willing to trade legit prospects for veterans. Let's hope that part does change here....
  12. Agreed, but the new FO has been clear, they aren't going to spend huge dollars in FA on one player. That's not going to change.
  13. Fair response. I just don't get why the Padres would make a deal for a guy like this, if he has any shot at being good, this early in his career. Most of the guys you find like this, have failed for a year or two, then come back to be good.
  14. If they only have $15MM, this team is in serious trouble. Because that doesn't buy 1 SP.
  15. Wasted was an exaggeration.....but it could have been much more than it was. I have my doubts this team is even close to those teams yet, but go get a legit SP and 2 legit RPs, and we can talk.
  16. I don't know why anyone trusts a SD pitcher to be good outside SD.... And, if he's a legit prospect to be a number 1/2 type, it will take way more than a guy with 3-4 years of control and a guy in low who just missed a year of baseball with an injury.
  17. IMO, if they don't find pitching help in the next year or two, Sano and Buxton's time will be remembered like Mauer and Morneau's time.....wasted.
  18. Well, we read the comments differently, and that's cool. I read pretty much every day that the Twins can't afford the best FAs (and I agree with that). I also read that they shouldn't trade the future, because "I want them to be great for my whole lifetime", or that "the Twins don't have the pieces to trade for great players". I also read that "all they have to do is find the next Arrieta" from a lot of posters. Maybe we interpret those statements differently, and maybe they are not exclusive to each other? It's certainly possible I'm reading the board wrong. But, IME, the Twins don't sign the expensive FAs, and they don't trade legit prospects for great players. Cleveland also does not do that, so if we are following their approach, we won't see trades of good/great prospects for proven players. Houston, OTOH, does do that. So if they are following Houston, we might see that. edit: and I see Chief agrees with my reading....
  19. I am all in on drafting and developing better being the key, don't get me wrong. But, that doesn't help in the window that ESan, Dozier, Buxton, Rosario, Sano, Mauer are all here.
  20. And drafting and developing delivered how many good pitchers in that time frame? Berrios and?
  21. cost of a 1-2 starter will be more like $25MM per year by this year......if you mean FA. If you mean arbitration, that sounds about right.
  22. I think the argument can be made either way on this one, btw.
