  1. Farrel is a pretty bad manager from everything I read.....but who knows. Again, it is about process, not outcomes....you can do everything right and get unlucky, or everything wrong and get lucky. It's about reducing the role of that luck every day, in every way. Clearly the process wasn't working in Boston. I am open to the idea it is getting better here. I have doubts, but I also don't have enough information about what they asked him to do, and what he did off the field, to have a valid opinion.
  2. Did you read the blogs vanimal supplied from Fangraphs, and their analysis of these deals and why they either aren't happening, or need to be MUCH LARGER to happen?
  3. Who has ever said focus only on analytics and ignore relationships? Did every player say keep him last year? What changed?
  4. What happened last year? He said give up? They didn't like him last year?
  5. It's really, really, really, hard to assess a manager from the outside......on this one, I'll have to just go along with the FO and their decision. IMO, that decision should be based on whether the manager and the FO are aligned on the plans for the next 2--3 years, and how a team should be run. They don't have to totally agree, that's potentially bad, but they have to be on the same page.
  6. And, you reduce your odds of scoring more than 1 run. You completely left off the part of the argument that disagrees with your stance. there literally years and dozens of studies showing that sacrifice bunts early in game decrease your odds of scoring more runs, and of winning. So, yes, we are using analytics.
  7. there are entire threads on the site dedicated to this, and yes, they led the American League in sacrifice bunts, and that doesn't count all the failed attempts....
  8. Literally the opposite was typed last year. Are we sure we aren't using results to assess process?
  9. I'm thinking about selling some other stuff (in my retirement account), and buying a bunch......but not sure yet. And yes, I manage one of my retirement accounts with stocks (and funds)....
  10. It's a massacre. Wow. Nothing has changed, but one dude / company doesn't think small businesses should use the internet to stay alive....
  11. one short seller.....how much did they make today just by going on tv? Unreal.
  12. SHOP being destroyed today. Once that stops, I'd buy more if I was all y'all....
  13. fair....I don't mind he's on the roster. I might not like watching him.....
  14. good thing we can't say anything with certainty after 200 ABs or less.....and look around the league, and ask if 120 OFers are better at the running and D parts also.....
  15. to be clear, you know that after 2 months? Because he was good in AAA. I agree, he's a backup. But no way he's the 6th best OF on most MLB teams, imo.
  16. Berrios threw the hardest Twins' pitch at 97. The Yankees threw 60 pitches harder than that...... Maybe we can stop assessing the pitching, and do something about it other than hope.
  17. Is it like the end of a college game, where everyone plays at the end?
  18. No need. Just enjoy your life. That's all I want for anyone. As a gift, go to a music show and have fun.
  19. Maybe this off season they won't need to spend another year assessing if they need to fix the pitching, which apparently wasnt obvious last off season....
  20. I'd go with play with your kids and have the game on in the background, but that's too serious for a game thread, so, um, I got nothing more creative than what you've seen....
  21. I can walk to about 7 breweries and about 30 bars.....probably over 100 places to eat within a mile.....and the grocery store....and a liquor store and several beer stores. It takes less than 15 minutes to get to any music show I want to see. And probably another 20 breweries. For us, it's all about all the stuff we can do w/o driving. It makes it much more likely we'll do those things if they are close.
  22. Leinie's Okto is not bad, but I think I like your choice better, but that's just a hunch since I've never tried it. Someday I'll get to TX again...
