  1. Of course next year is easier if an internal candidate is good. I doubt anyone disagrees with that. That doesn't change if they sign a free agent or not. And, they likely need two or three more pitchers next year, not one or two. If Santana regresses and no one really steps up, they might need four.
  2. Year one being better doesn't mean year two is bad. They won't be winning any bidding wars next year on Kershaw our other elite talents, the big spenders are under the tax threshold this year for a reason. They are also very unlikely to sign two really good pitchers in any one off season. Passing this year makes next year's work that much harder.
  3. Doesn't signing a pitcher to a longer deal help next year too?
  4. I agree that filling the team with guys you can't option is bad roster management. We've seen it with the bullpen, and other issues, over the years. Napoli makes no sense.
  5. I would have been opposed to that. Trading prospects for 1 year rentals when coming off a terrible season, is awful strategy.
  6. I see no good coming from giving up prospects for one year rentals. Not given their current roster. I also dont get worrying about flexibility if you never spend your money. It is way early to be worried about starting pitching yet, imo.
  7. Super annoying. I just want a good conversation. This practice hurts that.
  8. I know you want new writers, but if you want blogs to get more traffic, start using blogs for more of your own stuff. Seth's prospect posts should be blogs. Also, I hear the technology isn't super modern.
  9. I don't see how trading a declining, expensive player, indicates anything about Tampa's direction with any certainty.
  10. That's what I said up a few pages. Most money, lots of years.
  11. Agreed on the players htey lose.....not agreed on keeping a guy on the 25 man for too long.....let's hope they learned from last year.
  12. What big fish will they get, if they don't want to pay market rates?
  13. interesting. thanks. I figured that bonus was part of his major league salary for the year, but maybe not.
  14. Not sure the taxes work that way, but even if they do, I can't see the Twins or anyone giving out a signing bonus like that.
  15. I do. But he is the top free agent. The way to win the bidding is to win the bidding. I am just being realistic here. It's about the money. These posts never once mentioned anyone being cheap. I never implied it either. The point is simple, if you want the most expensive asset, you have to pay up.
  16. Creative? How about just pay the most?
  17. Why do people keep saying three years on relief pitcher deals? Haven't nearly all the deals been one or two years? How are we to trust the front office to be great pitching evaluators, if we don't think they are smart enough to find a relief pitcher to sign for more than one year?
  18. You go thru more than half the year with bad relief pitchers then.
  19. Because he's not all that good, and they'll just have to fix the problem again next year.....
  20. He wears is that easy in honor of his dead father....
