  1. There is an entire thread starting signing any relief pitcher for market rate is a bad idea..... They have locked in the price of a good relief pitcher next year, on a guy that might not pitch this year. And, I don't think it does, I was talking about all the posts and threads here worrying about spending any money, basically.
  2. Joe 12:35 Do you like the Smyly's or Pineda's 2/10 deal better from the team perspective? Dave Cameron 12:35 Pineda Would love to see what he looks like in relief when he gets back at end of this year.
  3. Creative. Would be nice to get legit help for this year too. For a group of people that worry about payroll flexibility, this board sure is high on the move.
  4. No chance I trade two pitchers for 1 year of Machado. Zero. Nada. Nil. Zilch. I can't even imagine why the Twins would do that.
  5. Two series titles ...... Yes, the interim was very bad.... But two titles.
  6. Lots of people questioned the Haley move, when he was taken/traded for, and during the year. This isn't simple hindsight.
  7. I would guess that kills many of the trade opportunities. Why Rooker? Or even Lewis?
  8. Dozens of games on the roster. It is the roster spot some of us didn't like.
  9. Hate to lose Gordon, but Wade and Granite are the same to me. Jay might be great, or never heathy. I probably do that deal, but only if the plan is to also add a free agent or three. Two years is very short term, so if you do this, you should commit money too.
  10. zippy 12:25 Gordon, Jay, and Granite for 2 years of Cole - Do you make that trade if you're the Twins or try to sub out something for a lesser prospect(s)? Eric A Longenhagen 12:27 I wouldn't be confident in Jay's ability to stay healthy and would be asking for Gonsalves instead. 12:28 And I prefer Wade to Granite, but if Pittsburgh thinks Granite plays a killer CF then that makes sense. He could play CF until Meadows shows he's healthy and ready and then move into a 4th OF role.
  11. To realize that puts Sano and Buxton another year closer to free agency? Eventually you have to try to win.
  12. Aren't minor leaguers really the magic beans, and veterans the cow here? Hardly any minor league players make a serious contribution in the majors.
  13. It doesn't happen to every team that they waste a roster spot for dozens of games on a rule five player.
  14. Never going all in is no better. That's how you get Tyner at DH.....or a bunch of one and outs.
  15. If they don't add any great pitching, and the odds are five percent or even ten, that they make the playoffs, should they just start trading players off this off season? I hope not....
  16. Great. Should the twins pocket money, or spend it less than perfectly efficiently?
  17. You really didn't answer the question. Is it better the owners pocket the money than it be spent inefficiently? Morris signed the largest FA contract ever, at the time.....
  18. This is the same strategy, isn't it? Sano and Buxton are here three or four more years. Should they just punt this next one, and keep waiting?
  19. The math is all over the Internet. It's why teams like young players, because old players cost money to buy or keep.
  20. Again... Who cares? Is it better the owner pockets the money than they spend it less than perfectly efficiently? Because that is pretty much the alternative
  21. Very, very, few players under thirty are ever free agents. Good luck if that is your rule. Go look at the lists the last few years, and see who makes your cut.
