  1. Oh, i agree, it was more a "if they think he's really got a shot there" comment.....I have no idea if he does or not.
  2. If Jorge has the stuff to pitch in late innings, I'd move him to RP......interestingly, on FG today, the prospect guys said that MLB teams are valuing late inning RPs more than number 4/5AAAA types.....
  3. I was not passing judgement,I was answering a question. Worse for this team, and this is a judgement, one of the good pitchers is in his mid 30s....
  4. I think the point is that nearly all their pitchers are no better than number 4 types......other than Berrios and Santana. I think that was the point.... I'd guess Mejia sits in that 4/5 AAAA range most of his career. That's a valuable asset, just not a game changing asset.
  5. I would bet money on Rortverdt starting in CR.....but not a lot of money.
  6. It's much worse than 10 for me! Anyone got a job they need filled?
  7. Assuming winning matters at all. If it doesn't, then of course they should pocket the money.
  8. If I had executed my plan this morning, I'd have made a lot of money. Instead, I did what the experts say, and held my position and lost a fortune.
  9. sports have been part of the entertainment world for thousands of years. Sure, baseball will eventually die off, but it will be replaced with something. Probably rollerball....
  10. and yet fox just increased payments to the NFL by nearly 20% per year for 1 game a week......no bubble bursting in site just yet.
  11. Crazy drops considering how everyone is reporting huge earnings. If I had a job and cash....I'd be feeling good about buying in a week or two, once the dust settles.
  12. IMO, the issue is also partly that winning has very little to do with revenue any more....so what, exactly, is hte incentive to spend money to win? TV, MLBLAM, radio, revenue sharing, etc.......has there ever been a time where winning mattered so little to revenue? As for the solution, there are SO MANY unintended consequences of any change that you almost have to change the whole compensation system, if you change any of it. I don't see any long term issues to the sport, or most any sport, though. It's all a bunch of talk, and yet tv payments keep going up, and ticket prices keep going up, and teams keep making more money..... for all the talk of the "NFL IS DYING"....Fox sports just agreed to pay $100MM more per year for Thursday night football.......
  13. Eagles are the anti-zimmer coaches, playing aggressively and not going for FGs and going for it on 4th down....that's one reason they are champions. They play to win. They understand the odds and the situation really well. Big fan of their coaching.
  14. There are still ads appearing over the reply box about half the time on my phone....I realize some of you may see that as a feature....
  15. Why no? That's what free agents are, expensive adds to winning. The alternative is the owner pocketing the money.
  16. And then they will be a year older, and if they made good, you'll have to sign them to s long term deal. Why would the team be good doing that, but not signing someone to a long term deal this year?
  17. You'd rather they give up part of the future pipeline than money?
  18. Ya, but just wait, the next year will be great, and then they'll spend money!
  19. Why would Dozier stay if the front office does not add to the roster? It would be out of character after last year. Also, eSan sand Pineda are of the roster after 2019.... How do you plan to fill those spots? People need to look at next year's list of free agents, and so themselves if any are better than Lynn or Cobb.... And they won't be cheaper....
  20. To your question about competing for a wild card.... 1. Progress is not linear 2. Other teams have added players 3. They barely won a spot last year. Imo, getting Darvish, or Lynn or Cobb are moves to increase the odds significantly, this year and for three or four more. Passing on them all, including Arrieta? Imo, Dozier leaves as soon as he can. And the team does not win a WC spot this year, or probably next without a lot of luck.
  21. how do you propose he prove it, if you don't let him get ABs in games?
  22. If Garver is the backup catcher, he probably will almost never be anywhere but catching or the bench, imo.
  23. It's not likely the division will be this weak again.....Det and the Sox will graduate players this year and next. I have no idea if they can take down CLE or not, but they should get a huge edge in the unbalanced schedule this year. It is a good year to take advantage of what they have been given, imo.
