  1. Isn't that true if there is no opt out? I will try to explain what I think chief is saying. People don't want old players If you give an opt out... If he's good, he opts out, and you don't have an old player If he's bad, he stays If you don't give an opt out If he's good or bad, you have him when he's old. If you fear old players, an opt out should be viewed positively, especially if offering one reduces the salary...
  2. I'm betting anyone willing to trade for Archer will take span's money. I'm betting most teams don't like the other guy all that much.
  3. Opening day? Like, if they do nothing between now and the day before opening day, no biggie? They have also shown no ability to fix the rotation. They didn't last year, and they didn't during the season, and they have not this year. I also fail to see anything good about losing their second best pitcher for at least five starts....
  4. I shouldn't panic over missing Santana because he's not going to be that good? That's part of the good news? They have no number two, or three, starter right now. When should fans worry? If Darvish is worth more than 21 million the first two years, do we only count the latter years for judging the deal?
  5. More than anyone would pay. He's one of the top pitching prospects in the game, and ready now. There is zero reason to trade him other than an insane return.
  6. The Twins don't need Dodger money to be better. No one is adding for that. I like Cobb the best, of the remaining free agents. I would deal Kepler and Gordon and a minor league pitcher for Archer. Then sign Gomez to replace Kepler.
  7. We literally have no idea what anyone offered, other than the Cubs.
  8. Sure, teams sign guys that don't work out. They also hope every prospect will work, or make bad trades. Doing nothing carries risks in the win loss side, if not the budget side
  9. I'm not sure what the point is of this post is....my point about Darvish, who is not from MN and probably wants to live where there are more Japanese (though we don't know that) and/or more diversity than you can find in MN.....is that MLB players don't actually spend that much time in their home cities. And, almost all the school year is not the MLB season.
  10. I'm not sure why he'd live in MN in the off season......an MLB player is only in town for 3-4 months, max. There really is no reason to live there, if you don't want to. I don't think we know what he wants, but if I had to guess, MN and Mil are not the top of the list.
  11. I read the other day there was a fund that existed that went up when the market was not volatile.....it lost 90% of its value, and no longer exists. Ouch. If you were a magician, and could predict these swings, you'd be rich!
  12. At this rate, I'm going to owe money for every share I own!
  13. People sure have a lot of eggs in the Rooker basket.....and I am talking about this year, not next year or some future year. Napoli is not a good player. Adding him subtracts from the bench, because he can only DH. Sano can DH vs lefties.....or Nunez. Nunez hit better than Napoli, and can "play" positions.
  14. It can be viewed positively, and risky, at the same time. I would argue this one was exactly that. A gamble, but probably the right one at the time.
  15. Except for the impact on the 25 man roster..... He was not good at all last year. He can't field. What does he do when Mauer or Sano DH? I wasn't talking about the money at all
  16. Archer would require about 2x that much value. If it is Gordon, you also need 2 SP minor league players and a guy like Kiriloff, maybe Kepler...... Or, Lewis and 2-3 other minor league players.
  17. funny guy! I've thought about doing some day trading, but have not done it. When I act, I am often wrong, when I have a plan and don't act, I often wish I had. When I got laid off, I did think about taking around 20K or so, and day trading with it, but I have not done so. Been trying to write a decent novel....and traveling a lot. Now that I'm home for some time, and am in rewriting and looking for some work, maybe I should day trade. But, day trading is a JOB, and a risky one at that. It's not something to sort of do....
  18. Thorpe is the best guy on this part of the list....he's a legit MLB starter, imo (based on nothing....but when did that stop anyone on the interwebs) Garver should be at least a solid backup catcher, if not more. Wade will get starts for some team someplace. I have never liked the Diaz signing, so I feel too biased to comment, but maybe some actual results would be nice. Littel? I doubt he's ever much more than a AAAA player, gets some MLB time here and there, but is the guy that goes back and forth between MLB and AAA, mostly in AAA. That said, who knows? Maybe he has some insane something that will translate. Nice list, the inclusion of Thorpe, Garver, and Wade make this part for me. All three are MLB players.
  19. Counting on Hughes or May to start this year would be criminally insane. Clown Posse insane.
  20. Definitely up today. Could have been better, or worse. I shouldn't complainxi have more saved than most. I am more having a conversation here....
  21. Steve Adams on mlbtraderumors (and Twins' fan)....really does not like Lynn or Cobb as good options. this has been your PSA of the day...
