    Probably, but it isn't only up to them. People say all the time FAs don't want to come here, why would Gibson stay, and not test FA?

    Not a lot of good long term options left, I don't think, in free agency. Somehow they need to find three or four starters in the next two years. Seems daunting.

    welcome to the site. If the Dodgers will give the Twins one of their top catching prospects for taking Kemp, I do that. They can have prospect number 30 or so in return.

    How many WAR have the AAA pitchers the Twins have used instead of acquiring outside help compiled? Because I guess that's what you are suggesting? And, I'm not only talking about the last three years, nor am I only talking about pitchers, as I literally praised the Castro signing in the post you are responding to. I also said one or two year deals....they were all praised as bargain signings, and they all worked out poorly. Castro was not seen as a bargain, but fair, deal, and he worked out the first year and got hurt. Sometimes players get hurt. Last year I asked for another OF to be signed, so he could sub in and DH. Some of those players worked out last year......and some of them will work out this year.

    I'm also confused by your posts. While I have asked for the occasional really big contract, what I've posted most of that they not only sign over year bargains. That they could trade for a player like millwaukee did. Or sign players to three or four year deals. No place have I said those have to be the most expensive guys only. What I've said is that only signing one year deals, or the occasional two year deal, leads to having to fill the holes over and over. For example, I praised the Castro signing. Still do. Just as I would have praised a Realmuto trade last year, though am less interested this year. Your posts also don't answer my question, is not adding good players really good if you have to rely on the AAA players they've relied on the last five to ten years? Because that certainly isn't leading to winning.

    I'm confused. Signing four or five players is not standing pat. Like, literally the opposite of doing nothing, which is what standing pat means.

    Who's going to trade for him if he's bad, and even if they do, what awful prospect would the Twins get back? And, what if he doesn't want to sign here, since as Torii and Johan once said, they always play for a future that never comes? What if he gets hurt?

    Every player signed so far has received more than people projected. And the Rays just signed a guy for $15MM per year......so, maybe there weren't fundamental changes after all. And, how did signing all those bargains work out last year?

    Well, they just spent more on a SP than than the Twins ever have (yearly average amount)....so maybe they are done?

    Not really relevant now. He had one last year, and they weren't sending him down last year. Or am I misunderstanding something?

    Only if he clears waivers, he's out of options. Then, when you call him up, and try to send him down later in the year, he can be claimed. It's the issue with trading for guys with no options, that you aren't sure are good or not.

    After sleeping on it, I'd sign Cruz. This is, of course, why you shouldn't be in a hurry to add a tiny upgrade in Cron really in the off season, but they did. Austin can join the very long list of guys this FO has acquired that was here for less than a year.

    What makes anyone think Ramos is healthy? If the league thought he was, he'd get big dollars, I'd think. I can't see any way Cron, Austin, and Cruz are all on the roster. So Austin would be one and done.

    All fair, but that's why I want Gibson traded if they aren't trying. Actually do the rebuild. Tear off the band aid completely. And, imo, the reason those three don't finish the deal is that they didn't add any difference makers last year that carried over to this year. But then, I'm starting to repeat myself.....

    Or regress back to old Gibson (which I don't believe will happen, but is a risk).

    Reasonable last question, to which I don't know the answer right now. I'd guess the return is greater now, but I could be wrong. I know if I was a team that was serious about next year, I'd want Gibson all year, to increase my odds. Edit: No, I don't agree this roster has a real shot at anything this year. Not without a legit SP and 2-3 more good RPs being added. I would have also added a legit OF that could DH some. But that seems unlikely given the Cron deal.

    both on 1 year deals, meaning you have those same holes again next year. They aren't betting on success. IMO. Unless we think Gordon is going to be above average in 2020, and Rooker too......which I'm told over and over on this site that we shouldn't expect that from rookies.

    Trading Gibson isn't standing pat, it is picking a direction. If they aren't serious about contending this year, why keep Gibson and not get some great minor league talent for him? Or, they can keep him, and get around the 40th pick next year (a pick which has an almost 5% chance of mattering, give or take).
