  1. Lowering expectations lowers ticket sales. This whole thing can't help sales, making it a self fulfilling prophecy they have to cut spending. I'm really baffled here.
  2. If any of those guys need to play for a week or more, yikes. Farmer is the last backup I trade. Heck, what are the odds Lewis is healthy?
  3. Who's your backup SS? Because if it isn't Lee, you better hope CC plays every game.
  4. well, they'd likely have Sandy Leon type in AAA (and on the roster), so, um him (in addition to Camargo)? Trading Vazquez isn't punting the season. Let's not exaggerate his importance, imo.
  5. his defense has more value? That would be my guess. You said you can't compare guys across positions, the entire idea of the positional adjustment and measuring defense IS to allow you to compare 1B vs SS...that's the entire idea.
  6. It's literally the opposite
  7. He's clearly a DH and "emergency" catcher at this point....which is valuable if he's healthy. I think he could play 1B fine also. I'm betting he gets a 1 year deal in the 8-10 range.
  8. And yet, knowing they needed another catcher, they signed one.....maybe that was, you know, the plan.....They have one of the best catching duos in the game right now, so I don't get the constant complaining.
  9. Great, if no team will offer value, then don't do it.
  10. I think we should stop trusting BTV at this point....
  11. Garver can't catch, and Rortverdt was out for a year and can't hit. Both of those were the right move for a team with this budget and depth. Not even close.
  12. I don't understand the question......I said what I'd do, not anything about other teams and stuff. If there isn't a team willing to deal value for him, for whatever reason, then I don't trade him. Nothing more or less. I would 100% expect the less expensive guy to be worse than Vazquez, but the return to make up for that in other ways.....
  13. I don't trade him to save money. I would trade him for a good prospect, assuming they then sign another, less expensive, catcher. I think he's clearly good to great defensively...... And when the pitching isn't as good, because it's not likely to be given the staff, people will blame the catching rather than the pitchers.... He'll likely hit better next year. He needs to, given the rest of the team as currently constructed.
  14. I would not trade him without a good return. I don't see them spending the savings.
  15. Do the rays trade rookies that were very good? Seems unlikely. I don't know, I'm asking
  16. Tennessee has tried that strategy, and was close for a while. I think a great defense, great running game, and ok passing could win again, but it's not been done......
  17. I think we'll disagree on that, and I'm ok with that.
  18. this is a really stupid post. Have you watched these guys get drilled, from age 10-35? Come on. You get hit by a 350 pound guy and let me know how it goes.
  19. I sorted by fWAR...which takes into account D.....I have no other realistic way to compare every catcher in baseball....
  20. Ya, that was kind of my point above....Dobbs might be one of the 50 best people on the planet at what he does, and it doesn't matter at all. That's kind of mind boggling, really.
  21. He had a top five babip in play during that stretch. That's not repeatable by any means other than luck. I'm not saying he's got no value, I'm saying expecting him to out hit nearly everyone is unlikely to say the least
  22. Also, strong disagree hitting doesn't matter at catcher. Ridiculously strong disagree
  23. Jeffers was one the best hitting catchers in baseball. Top five in war if he plays 90-100 games there. He's a difference matter. Dropping him moves you to one of the worst catching teams in baseball.
  24. KoC noncommittal at QB for the next game, and he considered benching Dobbs last night ....
