No way they get more for Ryan at the deadline. Just way less bidders, and 3 months less value. IMO, of course. But he's worth way more now, than later. Same with Buxton. Lopez? I think you could argue teams would want to see him pitch, but I doubt it. They do physicals, and can have him throw if needed.
I'm unsure on ticket sales. I think all three of these likely help, but how much, I just don't know.
Zero chance Cincy gets Buxton. So, that leaves 4.....but Atl doesn't have the prospects, so 3....
I am really on the fence on this, as i think he has 4 years of being good left, so he can be part of a good team. OTOH, he's hurt a lot, and he is older, and he isn't free (which is what they want).
I'm guessing Mets or Dodgers at this point, because ATL doesn't have the assets.
I mean, they likely took on debt for every capital improvement they contributed. And anything else they could take on debt for. You make more profit if you invest less and make money (alas, they aren't making enough money for that to work, apparently, or took on more debt at a higher rate than they wanted over time).
actually, maybe one has the ND RB, and one has the CB.....but either way, I'm not rolling that die. Heck, the next pick in the USA mock is a CB. Just take him.
But, if you actually look at, say FG 2025 updated list, filter out teams that won't trade for Ryan....you have a whopping 7 55 value guys available.....probably more like 4......that's not a lot of guys to choose from, so I think you are MUCH more likely to get 2 50 value guys at this point.....
What has history shown for mediocre teams just drafting and developing and not signing elite players or trading for them? History shows that it doesn't work either (might for a year or two, maybe).
The only strategy that works consistently for winning is spending money.......
Tough call for me....because 2 eggs in the basket are more likely to produce a chicken, to stretch a metaphor.
That said, I want elite players in this system......so, um, not sure?
Good question!
Me? I'm packaging him and two middling SP minor league players for 2 elite/great prospects and two more lower ranked ones. Like, Ryan, Raya, and Morris to NYM for their top two SP prospects and 2 more of their good prospects. Turn their surplus of decent prospects into more top prospects by leveraging them with Ryan.
Note I doubt NYM do this....
Haven't looked at that yet.....but here are my top needs (other than QB)
DT, CB, OL (C, OT, OT, OG), WR (esp. if they deal Addison, as they should), RB, TE
Now that I've typed that......I think I'd want DT, CB early as possible.
NO chance, IMO, that Priellip is in the bullpen to start the year. Whether he should be or not is another question.
people keep questioning SWR, without looking at how he is compared to other ML pitchers. He's average or better at this point, short starts be damned.
Outman and Julien on the roster make me sad, truly. That doesn't get to first base *ugh*.
How the Ol coach still has a job hurts my brain. Guys leave here, and are instantly better....guys here have no idea how to run a screen. There is something wrong with the OL coaching for sure.
I'm in general agreement on KOC and play calling. I think he's a great HC. I think, he's likely a very good OC, but sometimes he's just too cute, imo. Other times he's not aggressive enough (rarely).
Yes, the cap hit will likely stop any deal this off season....but I'm guessing Jefferson asks for a trade if they don't deal for a good veteran (probably not publicly).
