  1. Not saying you’re wrong by any means but I think I’d rather trust a normal starter’s routine. Plus, if he’s as good as I think he’d be out of the bullpen Shelton may not be able to resist pushing him harder.
  2. I used to be on board but now I don’t think we see Preillip in the pen. It would save innings for sure but he’d likely be throwing with more effort and on less rest, and that may be more dangerous. I think better to keep with the program - skip a turn or push him back when you can and otherwise keep his pitch count under 100. Sometimes piggyback with Rojas now that we have another lefty in Minter.
  3. Your points on Emma are fair. And I’d trade him for 4 years of a mid rotation or better starter. The trouble is that, as others have pointed out, this looks like an outlier year for Hancock. It’s smart for the Mariners to cash in on him now and I fear it would be at our expense. If he’s a front line guy then they should want to keep him. I’ll gladly trade Emma and more for Kane or Sloan and they can keep Hancock
  4. Respectfully disagree. Jeffers is our best healthy position player (and a RH bat, which we also need more of); and I see people throwing Emma intro trades like an afterthought a lot recently. He is in a different world as a prospect than Gonzales and Mendez. Granted he can’t stay healthy but trading him (with Jeffers!) for a back end rotation piece throws in the towel this year and has a chance to haunt the Twins for the next 10.
  5. Well in my defense I said “mostly” not full time. As players get older many seem to be able to better embrace the DH. If Keaschall, Emma and Jenkins play the same or better defense than a mid 30s Buxton I can see him spending 60+ percent at DH to keep his bat in the lineup more often as opposed to the IL.
  6. We’ve very likely seen the last of him at 2B. I’d be interested to know how his defense in CF compares to Jenkins and Emma since it may be about time to have Buxton serve as mostly DH. I agree he may he may not have the power to hand him a corner spot long-term but he’s already plays good outfield defense and is likely to reduce the glaring mistakes as he gains experience.
  7. If the Twins trade Jeffers and are still trying to compete for a playoff spot, then they’ll need to go and get two RH bats at the deadline, not one. And Jeffers is better than any they could trade for and plays an up the middle position. Keep him unless they are out of it. The idea that we are delaying our window by not trading away guys is suspect. Winning breeds winning, so may as well start that habit now. Hoping it happens with a new set of team leaders next year could just as easily set them back again.
  8. It’s also that he has shown potential to be more than a 4/5 so I think you have to give that time to play out with a young pitcher. But, it does seem to be getting close to decision time with. If the Twins have a good home stand maybe the trade is for a mid-rotation starter and Zebby makes the bullpen move then.
  9. Getting a controllable front line starter would be perfect, depending on the price of course. Good idea if we can trade Jeffers and/or Larnach for prospects and then flip some prospects not named Culpepper, Houston, Jenkins, Lackey for him. For a rental it would have to only be B level prospects.
  10. I hear you, but man it would be tough to trade even two of these guys right now. Very unpredictable what impact that could have this year. Hopefully they can get Culpepper and Jenkins up for a run to the playoffs this year (along with the young core of Keaschall, Lee, Taj, Zebby, Preillip, Abel, if healthy) that sets them up for true contention over the next 5-6 as the other prospects start to join. And it sure would be nice to take advantage of all these minimum contracts and sign Ryan to an extension…. But most likely he gets traded in the offseason for a haul.
  11. Assuming health and barring trades the likelihood is that Buxton Jenkins and E-Rod are the starting outfielders next year. Keaschall plays against lefties and otherwise gives those 3 a break. Also starts when one of those three is injured. That is super valuable with probably close to 500 ABs. Still not a “starter” if you can only choose 3.
  12. That’s not accurate. Nobody is saying to not trade players if you’re BAD. But if you have a real chance to make the playoffs, especially after the last two years, you take it. And making a run may also lead to an increase in payroll next year - which will have a bigger benefit on winning than the prospect value you’d likely get for Jeffers and definitely for Bell. Ryan will still be a valuable chip in the offseason regardless.
  13. It would be a (great) problem to have if they could stay healthy, but Buck, E-Rod and Jenkins - your ideal starting 3 - have certainly shown injuries may follow them throughout their careers. I imagine there are enough at bats for Keaschall, Roden and one of Martin/Gonzalez/Mendez with injuries, DH, and other rest for the starters. I think we’ve all been very happy with Larnach’s bat this year, but with his expected ‘27 salary and sub par defense he looks like a guy who will be gone whether at trade deadline or the offseason.
  14. That’s a fair point and I’d be more than happy to not have a straight platoon and instead Keaschall gets like 70% of the starts. Roden acts more like a 4th outfielder that is playing against tougher righties and when we want to get another OFer a day off, which would likely mean he is starting over half the time anyway. But like others have said, his minor league track record shows he *should* be able to hit in the majors.
  15. Send Martin down or out. Jenkins in left and Roden/Keaschall platoon.
  16. I agree on pretty much everything in the article, except I’d probably (though reluctantly) trade Larnach. There seems to be several teams that could be interested and it feels like Jenkins/Keaschall/Roden trio could about replicate his offense with much better defense. You can then trade those prospects or others from your system for more pitching help (would not surprise me to see Zoll go semi-big for a starter). Jeffers could certainly help a contending team - us! It will be a huge benefit to keep two productive catchers rested, plus Caratini can sub in for Lewis against tough righties. And as long as they are in contention Ryan is untouchable. Reconsider a trade in the offseason if you must, but for now he’s our shot at a playoff berth and a series win.
  17. Roden, Larnach and Keaschall can make a good platoon threesome in LF/RF the remainder of this year, with Larnach getting subbed out in late innings and all 3 playing when Buxton needs a break from CF. I think Martin is the odd man out when Buxton is back - maybe even trade bait for a reliever. I’d consider moving Roden as part of a package too and bring up Jenkins to take his spot. Gray can also be sent down when Culpepper is healthy. Would be better if he was left handed but oh well.
  18. With 3 years of team control remaining, Clemens looks like he has cemented himself at the second baseman for the foreseeable future. Defensive metrics show he is above average and he’s hit well going on two seasons - he’s one of the best second baseman in baseball right now and it doesn’t look like a fluke.
  19. Abel and Tait was a good return for 1.5 season of Duran (and at best only 1 pennant chase). Yeah Abel is hurt but he looked very good until then and under control for 5 more years. I’d still take it rather than pay big money for Duran’s declining years, despite how good he’d look right now in the BP.
  20. I expect if Jeffers is traded it may be for prospects since most teams that need Jeffers won’t want to take from the major league roster. That’s fine, as we can use those prospects and/or some of our own to get the pitching help we need. But I’d only trade Jeffers for an offer you can’t refuse; better to lose him for nothing after a pennant chase than to trade for a mid prospect. If that comes to pass then I’d agree Caratini gets a bit more time at 1B, which is not a bad thing. And with Larnach, I think he has almost put himself into the untouchable category for the remainder of this year. He’s been too good in the leadoff spot and I doubt they’ll want to mess with that. Roden can be the late inning replacement for him when Buxton returns. Also hoping to see Jenkins before the end of July. He can spell Buxton in CF and otherwise split time with Keaschall in RF. Unfortunately that means Martin would have to go - maybe he can bring back something decent in relief.
  21. A center fielder, 2 shortstops and a catcher as your top 4, and all perhaps top 50 in baseball(?) at this point, is a damn good way to start.
  22. That’s interesting. Caratini may actually be Jeffers. I won’t complain if they trade him - I just think it’s not worth it if the return is marginal while you’re trying to make the playoffs.
