  1. I would not call the hole in the lineup Bell would leave "gigantic" (though Jeffers is). No denying he's been a useful bat, but that's what a DH is supposed to bring. I'd be content next year to not have a traditional DH and let your position players cycle through. May need that with the glut of outfielders who will need at bats. If Bell comes back cheaper as a bench bat (not everyday DH) I'd take it, but I could see him falling off a cliff too.
  2. I’d like to see the catch probability on that single to left
  3. What is going on with Nance? He hasn’t pitched in at least 5 days but was effective before that. Good to see Ryan was throwing off a mound before the game too.
  4. I think his position is LF because of the arm - I trust he will get better in the OF with work to at least be average. I hope he ends up as a “4th outfielder” that gets as many at bats as an everyday player by cycling through DH and the occasional RF/CF (and injuries always occur). That would mean Jenkins and E-Rod/Mendez are thriving. I even wonder if he could be tried at 1B depending on what happens with Lewis over the next few years.
  5. It’s a very good point about preserving his option. I suspect that will carry the day and I agree with that. He’s valuable enough to keep up and not burn it. Unfortunately he looks like more of a 5th outfielder long term who can help keep the wheels from coming off in case of injury but he’s not a regular or even platoon in my mind. Worth keeping over Roden right now because he’s right handed but one of them needs to go tomorrow for Jenkins!
  6. Totally agree. It’s after August 14 so he’ll still be a rookie next year. It’s past time to put your best team on the field.
  7. I had to believe his home will be LF next year; he needs to go to the Alex Gordon school of infielders learning to play the outfield this offseason. It would be impossible to take his .400 OBP completely out of the lineup the remainder of this year, but I do think protecting him more with defensive replacements and a good dose of Jenkins in against righties or playing center periodically for Buxton (instead of Kreidler or Keaschall) would be valuable.
  8. That “hit” to Keaschall in center ahead of the HR needs to be caught and could have really cost us. Also made another awkward catch. I hope they left Jenkins in Iowa to hook up with the big club and play CF. Keaschall needs an offseason of working in the outfield before he’s ready. He’d make a good 4th OF and pinch hitter/runner the remainder of this year. Still believe in him but we have better defensive options at the moment.
  9. This is a good point and should be factored into discussions about the trades last year. Hopefully he pans out so we don’t look back and wish we had won a few more to end up picking in the 6-10 range 😀. The prospects we got back (Abel, Bradley, Rojas, Tait, Mendez, Gallagher, etc.) are potentially much better than what we gave up and have many many more years of control. The front office looked at what they had coming up and played for the future. It’s hard to disagree with that and I feel much better with Abel, Bradley and Rojas all potentially starting for the next 5 years than I do with one more year of Jax and Duran relieving (we won’t mention the 4 years of Varland).
  10. Bullpen is suddenly a strength, who would have thunk it. Funderburk is having the same second half he had last year. I may put him in the same class as Minter where we can deploy whomever is more rested for that lefty fireman role.
  11. Promoting now would not impact his free agency (under current CBA); it only impacts “rookie” status and whether he could net us a draft pick by winning rookie of the year. That’s not nothing, but not worth the delay IMO.
  12. Exactly. And Jenkins will save us some runs. Larnach makes the occasional diving play, and doesn’t get to a lot, that a good LF makes standing up. Jenkins can play every day and let Larnach DH and play the field occasionally. If they insist on having Bell/Larnach in the lineup most days then Keaschall becomes the 4th guy (just for remainder of this year) who plays against lefties, comes in to pinch hit against lefty relievers, and gets in vs righties when Buxton needs a day off. I love Jackson as a backup, but not as a 3rd catcher during a pennant chase.
  13. I understood keeping Jackson on through the deadline in case Jeffers got traded, but at this point 100% he can be replaced next year (that is, if someone claims him).
  14. The eliminate is Jackson. Caratini’s time can be limited until/unless he snaps out of it. In no world should be see time at DH/1B right now. And we don’t have time to let him hit is way out of it in games.
  15. Lewis, wow. He’s on one and it could just carry the team. Also need Buck back to form soon and a few other moves (Jenkins) to get this offense going before it is too late. I think they can severely limit/eliminate the at bats for Jackson, Gray and Caratini at this point.
  16. My head agrees with this… but I still irrationally want to see them this year!
  17. It feels like prospect rankings undervalue defense or they just don’t believe in the bat yet, which is understandable. But if he keeps this up the combination of defense and offense starts to look like a top 25 prospect. Is Cooper Pratt a crazy comp?
  18. These trades feel like the right approach to give the team a fighting chance this year without sacrificing the future. With Buxton out it would have been tough to lose even one of Larnach and Jeffers given their importance to this lineup. I’m glad they’re rolling with these guys (though I do hope Jenkins comes up for Jackson and Larnach moves mostly to DH). And reality is that we still do not have to lose those two or Ryan for no value. I would bet Pohlad has given approval on a QO for Jeffers and if Larnach keeps performing he should have a trade market in the offseason.
  19. Have to trust their evaluation on this one that Hill won’t turn into a top 3 starter. If not then it’s all good. We won’t know for 4 years or so.
  20. They could potentially be interested in Lewis for 1B/3B or Keaschall if they believe he can stick in CF. Keaschall is going to be good for a long time but I think I’d rather give him than Culpepper based on this team’s needs. However, if they had interest in Lewis perhaps Emma, Lewis, Quick, Gallagher could get it done. I’d consider putting Abel in for Quick if they liked him better despite the injury. Whatever it is, will cost a lot.
  21. I’m not sure who’d I’d rather give up - Houston or Culpepper - but if the Twins believe Houston’s breakout is real then you can absolutely do this trade. It would hurt for sure, but a parade would help heal those wounds!
  22. I doubt it would jump to that immediately but in any event it’s still 8MM for a platoon left fielder who plays bad defense when you have two younger and higher upside guys ready.
  23. It’s possible it hurts this year (though debatable given he’s put up these numbers in a platoon and plays bad defense). But 8MM he’ll earn next year could be better used elsewhere when you have Jenkins and E-Rod waiting. Put it into a QO for Jeffers!
  24. Or designate Gray. Larnach has been good at the plate so I’d prefer, all else equal, to keep his bat in the lineup - but getting him out of left field should also be a priority. In my view you can make 3 moves to really go for it: IN: Culpepper, Jenkins, higher leverage reliever OUT: Larnach, Bell, Gray (Or swap out Martin and keep one of Larnach / Bell) Result: Improved defense and bullpen, comparable hitting
  25. I’m actually surprised some are so down on this trade. A back end innings eater that we desperately need who is not a rental for a guy who is 4 years away at best and is way more than likely to never see more than a cup of coffee in the bigs. Sign me up.
