  1. Agree. I wish the Twins would stop the point-scoring against him and just move on. He's not going to work out - give him a chance somewhere else.
  2. One scenario. Ryan and Pohlad are not-so-subtly offering Gardy a promotion to Vice President of Baseball Division Titles in 6 of 9 Years, or some such title, just to save face and get someone new in the manager chair. But since Gardy doesn't do subtlety and loves his job, he doesn't take the hint. Ryan has no choice but to announce Gardy is coming back. It is announced after the season however that none of the coaches are coming back for '15, but then that is reversed at the meetings in December. With same exact coaching staff minus Molitor in 2015, Twins finish 78-84, fourth in Central, and Gardy wins manager of the year. Scenario two. Ryan retires rather than can his old friend's pitching coach. New GM from outside is hired and decides to give Gardy and the coaches one more year to "turn this thing around." Twins finish 78-84 in 2015, fourth in Central, Manager of Year, and fan base demands extension for Gardy and coaches to let them complete the turnaround. But, in early 2016, a prospect in Fort Myers gets injured, causing Twins to finish season 71-91, with no choice but to extend Gardy and coaches again and aim for contention sometime after 2019. In other news, Vance Worley pitched a good game yesterday.
  3. Yes I do have a complaint about Vargas. I would prefer to see Vargas get 3/4 time at first base.
  4. Agree. The Twins repeat that argument enough and they'll begin to overstate its importance. I personally don't consider Cleveland a playoff contender at this point but be my guest. I doubt Cleveland is quivering over facing our veterans. If anything they might have more trouble with a bunch of young guys they don't have a book on.
  5. And that's an example why replay is an embarrassment. The rules are so murky and were put on books all at once and the umpires can't even keep track. I stand by my statement. The only good thing about replay is it gets a majority of missed calls corrected. I feel the cons far outweigh that one single benefit. It's a net negative for baseball, imo.
  6. I'm just paraphrasing the exchange, but those guys represented each side of the debate perfectly tonight. So I doubt the frustration with Pinto's lack of playing time is limited to just us shrill internet commenters.
  7. In the radio postgame tonight: Kris Atteberry: The guy I'm disappointed in is Pinto, who hasn't shown anything lately. Dan Gladden: Pinto hasn't even played!!! I don't know how he can show anything if he doesn't play. Atteberry: Well, Pinto has struggled. He's 0-for his last 15 --- Gladden: --hard to get into a rhythm when you're only coming off the bench for one at bat every other night. Gardy says he wants to see how Pinto responds to going through a stretch like this. Fine, but maybe Pinto needs to catch 3, 4 games in a row. Hard to improve your catching skills when you're catching guys like Deduno half the time. Atteberry: We'll see.
  8. "Happy Birthday to you, "Happy Birthday to you! "Happy Birthday, dear RB, "Happy Birthday to you!" … having now said as much, I shall leave Twins Daily and MinnCentric on the hook for damages to Warner/Chappell Music, Inc. 1 1 just kidding, send me the bill
  9. Cleanliness is next to Gardyness
  10. Hicks allergic to rain now? /cheapshot
  11. And 1 game in the last 11 (9%). None of the last 8 games (0%). The thing is, it doesn't really matter to me. Suzuki continues to play hard and get big hits. It's just an eye opener to me that we're not in the business of developing catchers anymore (Doumit over Herrmann, Suzuki over Pinto). Garver will be 25 in the summer of 2016 and will hopefully get a chance at that time.
  12. Apparently tag plays aren't even reviewable either, according to KC announcers. Agree 100% Baseball executives with their fingerprints on this should feel embarrassed.
  13. Twins made a huge gamble on Hicks and lost. In hindsight I'm not sure that particular gamble cost too much in W-L though, and the Span/Revere trades may have netted a good pitching prospect or two. I assume Buxton is doing ok now that the collision is in the rear view mirror and can make a visit next September despite his unlucky 2014. Optimism! Great point in OP that Dozier actually could stand to clean up his fielding a little bit. And Mauer still finding himself out of position from time to time. Otherwise happy with the infield D.
  14. The Twins apparently have obtained secret data that no one else has, that shows Suzuki will continue his hot hitting all of the next two years and will not miss time with injury, thereby not needing a reliable backup at all. Obviously Suzuki is having a great year and like any player worth his salt, doesn't want to be on the bench. He's better than Pinto so he gets the starts. Twins are still in "win now" mode. Or I have a couple other conspiracy ideas: 1. Gardy knows of Suzuki's playing time incentives and is giving him a chance to earn those 2. Pinto went Lohse on Gardy's office door with a chair
  15. Well, [ insert perfunctory Pinto complaint here ]. And that's all I have to say about that.
  16. I'm kind of disappointed Florimon won't be postseason eligible. It deprives us of the chance to see an exciting, late-inning 8-6-2 putout at the plate in the NLCS that helps lift the Nationals to the World Series. Because that 8-6-2 putout would go Span, to Florimon, to Ramos.
  17. Probably not. I was stuck listening to him one day this week, unfortunately. I like to listen to Rosen at 2pm when I can but that's it. The only thing Common Man ever talks passionately about is his own golf game but he really went way over the top on this as if he was taking a controversial stand on a controversial issue. I'm just holding him up as an example of a media member who believes the only thing to do is to destroy the athlete and Vikings management but maybe he changed his tune the past few days. (by the way Vikings deserve some harsh criticism I think). I have no idea what Cole's take on Puckett is.
  18. There are media people like Dan Cole who are taking a stand against child abuse (he is presumably pro- puppy dog and strongly in favor of the sunrise) only as it relates to the professional athletes he is paid to take down. There is no sense that he is ever interested in addressing issues like this, but has only been waiting for the right opportunity. It just gives him and other media people something easy to talk about, period. On the other hand there are guys like Cris Carter I guess who seem to want to advance the debate -- what is appropriate discipline. Who decides. What part do we wish our public officials to have in deciding. Good to discuss. To my mind Adrian is in the wrong even if he genuinely didn't believe he was doing anything wrong. It's not as black and white as he thinks. He gets paid to take and give bodily punishment, and our society condones this… yet here we are talking about a little child. I think he should have some sort of significant suspension but no idea how long. Football cannot be a priority for him right now. This is not to defend him though or defend NFL policy.
  19. On that same note, it should be criticism that Gardy & coaches advocated moving some of these guys into the system. Not sure who exactly you are referring to though.
  20. It wouldn't be unheard of to see a young player bust on the scene with a 6-8 WAR their first full season. This could mean Sano or Vargas next year, Buxton the year after. Trout hung a 10.0 his first season. Also, Florimon's WAR was -0.2 which describes an inherent flaw in this stat. I like to see a better way to quantify Florimon's mistaken June call up. Priority #1 - starting pitching Priority #1a - outfield defense. I think Schafer might be an answer. Note that I did not say will be the answer.
  21. The Bartlett retirement was devastating to our clubhouse chemistry and it's taken most of the season to repair that chemistry. Snark aside, I think Chief makes a good point.
  22. lots of things happen to Kenny... We don't have to get into it here.
  23. Sconnie and I have been camp counselors there for four years now. We call it Camp Too Late, for short. We had a lot of young kids come up this summer but other than this guy Danny, Eddie, and a kid we call "little Kenny", we didn't give any of the kids any playing time........
  24. Free Pinto! Ok RB, Gardy believes Zuke is having a great year and is superior to Pinto... why can't we do what's best for the Minnesota Twins instead of what's best for the "integrity of the game" and the Detroit Tigers!!! /soapbox
  25. That's dedication, my friend. please don't lose sight of priorities!
