  1. Back to Falvey, the problem with "Sustainability!" is that it doesn't really mean anything. That message has a hungry receptive audience here at TD and in the smart guy prospect ranking industry, but it doesn't really resonate with the fan base.
  2. Feels too much like micromanaging. He's healthy, playing well, just bring him back up.
  3. Is it possible you are ignoring numbers yourself? Refer back to posts 65 and 66 and let us know what you think.
  4. Also I haven't heard any hints that he's not coming back, so not sure where that is coming from. It would be nice to know. Ted? Indications from Joe himself (after cutting through the "gee whiz-ness" of all his comments) I am confident he wants to play another season or two, at least.
  5. Piggybacking off the previous post, Fangraphs says Mauer is the 3rd best out of 28 first baseman for 500 innings in the field. Eyeball test agrees, and even if Mauer is slipping ever so slightly, he is still one of the best at the position across MLB. Without Mauer at first base, all the other infielders drop a notch, too. I also think continuity into 2019 is an important factor with this one.
  6. Well, Stewart failed to get through the fifth. Likewise, I fail to get through Stairway to Heaven without crying, either.
  7. He just looks...not ready. Certainly not for the 2019 rotation, even as a guy competing for the fifth spot. Maybe, maybe, a mid reliever with options.
  8. Were they to anybody? http://ll-media.tmz.com/2012/12/17/1217-steven-tyler-tmz-7.jpg
  9. Yeah I guess I'd put that about 99.9% on Garver. Maybe if Mollie would have yelled "throw!" he would have thrown it... to someone. Anyone.
  10. Buxton could still be a star, depending on one's definition. All Star game, in my opinion yes absolutely. He's had a terrible season; anybody can sit here today and call him a bust. Hicks looked terrible too, and now he's playing in center every day and batting third in the Yankees lineup while Judge is out, with an OPS well over 800. Buxton should be the starting CF from day one next season. He can bat 7th or 8th, right ahead of Castro (never thought I'd miss Castro this bad!). I'm not sure why he's still in Rochester. I think the Front Office wants Molly to give some other guys some looks. Understandable.
  11. Tim Lincecum made a similar play/nonplay in the first inning of the first game of the 2010 World Series, running a guy back to third base without making a throw. Really, you can only watch in disbelief.
  12. True, it's on the players first and foremost, but I would put the coaches third. It's inevitable that you'll see mental mistakes and half effort when a team is out of the race. Expect the follies to continue though it would be hard to beat a couple of the plays we saw this week.
  13. Left the bar right before all the action started - damn!
  14. Who, Hillary? Or someone else now? Any woman or group of women will do, really.
  15. That was a smaller point in the argument. Those have always been acknowledged. From the very start.
  16. They had a broken keyboard, we traded for the broken keyboard Cave is a good upgrade from Grossman, and Austin could be strong nice bat. Not sure about his glove or potential to platoon at 1B, seems doable.
  17. Kepler will never shed that ballerina training he had growing up
  18. I have yet to see a better first baseman handling Sano's throws than Joe. If Joe doesn't get signed back, Sano becomes that much worse.
  19. Are you suggesting there was a better tool to use than statcast? http://blog.hulettsonlakegeorge.com/Pictures/Sundial.jpg
  20. Those four guys weren't acquired in the offseason. Other guys took steps forward. And giving the internal core a chance to play the full season, not 63% of it.
  21. We could go so many different directions with this post. We better be contending next year. The FO botched the offseason but they get a mulligan. They have plenty of money to spend on player salary. By the way, Oakland was under .500 and pretty much out of the race not too long ago.
