  1. I think the poster was referencing a contract extension, different than a qualifying offer. And I still also think they get a lot more out of letting the fan favorites play out the season. Just my opinion but even stronger opinion now that the deadline has happened. Losing begets lots of ill effects. I'm seeing a lot of ticket promotions on social media all the sudden. Some not so awesome. (Hey! buy frozen pizza, get free tickets! was one of the promotions-- about one step up from "someone broke into my car, and there on the dashboard...")
  2. disagree completely. This team has plenty of talent for a postseason run. Just need to get the best out of it.
  3. I don't disagree but I think the difference is scale. Players are making a ton of money and usually have egos. If they care more about their own performance it can become a problem.
  4. Maybe, maybe not, since the manager doesn't bring in the players. Unless you are thinking of the situation with the White Sox a few years ago and a player letting his kid run loose everywhere.
  5. Great example. And then no one expected much from 2008 but they went to a game 163
  6. 1. Joc Pederson (L) CF 2. Manny Machado ® 3B 3. Matt Kemp ® LF 4. Yasmani Grandal (S) C 5. Brian Dozier ® 2B 6. Cody Bellinger (L) 1B 7. Chris Taylor ® SS 8. Yasiel Puig ® RF 9. Rich Hill (L) P
  7. You should have brought it up sooner
  8. From what I recall, some combination of Dozier, Mauer and Molitor rallied the team to a wild card berth after last year's deadline, so I am pushing back against any suggestion any of those three are souring the clubhouse.
  9. Maybe it's being exaggerated, but not much. I'd agree there were definitely some clubhouse chemistry issues brought in by the free agent signings this year.
  10. Actually, Darvish still has time to make good on his contract. Likewise Cobb. (Arrieta is doing fine in Philly.) Of the "big four" free agent pitchers this offseason, Lynn's was the contract that was the biggest fail. This front office would have been better off keeping Lynn for the final two months than trading him for Yankee cast offs.
  11. Don't forget "sustainable championship contender!"
  12. I have faith, but it's shaky
  13. Pittsburgh traded for Archer. Interesting.
  14. Not next year. I think Buxton is capable of it, but agree his goal in 2019 should be to just remain healthy. Not at all. There are threads somewhere with people disagreeing with those moves as they were happening. He was in the majors for the entirely of 2017 and had a pretty damn good year turning around after a cold start. Didn't need to be optioned, didn't miss too much time hurt. Front office didn't have to do a thing except write him in the lineup. This year they thought he needed more handling, and it didn't work.
  15. On the contrary, sports is inherently unpredictable, and games ahead or games behind in the standings is maybe the only number that matters. They were 7 games back when they traded Escobar. Unlikely, but doable!
  16. I think the running analogy falls flat. It was dire, mostly because they were giving away too many games. I would have liked to see if they could rally. "When the going gets tough", and all that.
  17. we were sniffing it when Escobar was traded. We weren't there yet, but we were sniffing it.
  18. Again, you are forgetting the pennant race. I know it angers many people to say, but the Twins were still in a pennant race.
  19. Huge disappointment, injury prone for sure, but I'm not giving a pass to the front office. Buxton never should have been rehabbed after his migraines, and then should have been rehabbed after he broke his toe. Just a CF all the way around.
  20. I think you want to check that fact or clarify what you mean by it
  21. Esco and Doze in the same division! They will be reunited at least.
  22. It's the opinion of you and others that the Twins were out of the race, despite evidence they were not, and despite the fact teams make up 7 games more often than you would think.
