  1. Bears tacklers are treating Vikings ball carriers in roughly the same way a dog treats a rag doll when no one's home. Bears offense is moving, too. The Bears don't look like they want to let up, even as the Rams jump out to an early 59-0 lead. Might be a long day if somebody doesn't make a big unexpected play to turn this around.
  2. You keep saying that like its a bad thing But you make a good point above. #5 starters deliver terrible numbers, traditionally. But I still see drawbacks to both opener-primary and stacking as a substitute for the #5 starter. If the Twins try something new to replace the #5 starter in 2019 and it doesn’t work out, are you prepared to stick with it in 2020?
  3. Seat, meet sock
  4. I was just thinking of something else too. Sometimes your starter (stacker) will need to be relieved mid-inning, and I really like how Molitor brought in Rodney in the 5th inning in a game last summer, it was by necessity, but still. We might finally see more stuff like that this year. Good for the team, but bad for the guy who wants to rack up Saves and hit a contract in free agency. But, good for the team.
  5. Great observations. I am slowly warming to the idea of "stacking" much more than "openers" (if by "stacking" we mean two pitchers who throw 3-4-5 innings before turning it over to the traditional bullpen guys). I still like the idea of starters like Berrios who you expect or hope will pitch deep into the game, every time. And the more of those you have, the better. Not sure that's ever going away. But in Odorizzi's case we see that 75 or so pitches is almost always as far as he can go, so maybe you don't let him start an inning after 65 pitches, regardless. I'm on board with that. I do like how Odorizzi pitches high in the strike zone. Will be interesting to see how it plays out knowing this information. With the emphasis on data nowadays, and so much happening in the dugout as always, I'm not even sure Baldelli will be making the final call in certain cases like this (what inning to lift a guy like Odorizzi).
  6. I disagree with you - this is a good signing. But I do agree it behooves them to proactively beef up their pitching staff a little more now.
  7. I’ve kinda wanted to do a review of baseball books and films for this site, but that’s one more project I haven’t gotten into gear.
  8. The Russian/rightwing meme machine informs me that Mexicans with smallpox are trying to get into the U.S. Not sure what it means. Take it for what it’s worth. The 27% of Trump voters who will justify anything and support him no matter what aren’t going away, and that’s s majority of Republican congressmembers I’d wager.
  9. what are you reading right now?
  10. Knock knock Who’s there ... Not the Twins!
  11. Well at least the offseason hasn't be a COMPLETE waste --- I did make a breakthrough on my George Carlin impersonation!!
  12. Kikuchi would be a quality option.
  13. Detroit is trying to trade Castellanos. I wouldn’t be interested, myself. I prefer Sano at 3B, and though Castellanos might be a good OF platoon partner, his fielding is atrocious.
  14. Pohlad surely wants to enjoy a low-payroll season with Mauer's payment off the ledger, and I can almost understand and forgive him for it , but he's going to have to put some skin back in the game again real soon, as the above poster said.
  15. Our old friend Brian Dozier possibly being courted by the Nats https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/12/nationals-have-shown-interest-in-brian-dozier-wade-miley.html
  16. This would also be the thread to point out that the long time Blue Jays GM Pat Gillick was nicknamed "Stand Pat," for not making offseason moves despite having moderately successful teams. When he did start making big offseason moves, the team won two World Series.
  17. Great post. Wish it would have been higher in the thread. Reading Dice K's wiki page said the baseballs in Japan are a little smaller. That might concern me if Kikuchi is unable to find the grip on the MLB baseball. Eventually he would but at what cost.
  18. What do you think a fair price would be?
  19. All I stated was that television revenue did not impede spending, per St. Peter. Seriously, what’s a mess about that?
  20. I guess at this moment in time I'd go with *checks notes* ... Cron? But I wouldn't have been seeking out a right handed first baseman only marginally better than what they had in the first place. That's kind of what I meant by "slippery".
  21. "What would you do different?" That's a slippery question. I liked their moves going into 2017, not so much since then, and I really disagreed with them blowing it up last July though I can see the case for them doing that. That has been debated. What would I do different? Well, doesn't adding Cron with Austin look a lot like the mistake they made adding Morrison last season, with Mauer already at first? So one obvious thing would be to part ways with either Cron or Austin before the spring games begin.
