  1. Great job Carroll-Dickson-or whoever. Worst on-side kick in NFL history, like, literally, the worst ever.lol Should have dragged Janikowski off his death bed to attempt it.
  2. I can't see anything wrong with these hires. And I see Toby Gardenhire mentioned in this thread. He checks all the boxes: played professionally (got to AAA), but also coached in college, coached in the minors, and I can guarantee you is more analytical than his old man.
  3. Posnanski has an article with some great background about the lack of a unanimous yes vote, and why that should end with this year's class. (sub req) snippet: Four schmoes don’t vote for Cobb? The BBWAA screws up the DiMaggio vote? A few writers for odd, unknown, probably petty reasons don’t vote for Musial, Mays or Aaron, Ripken, Griffey or Maddux? This isn’t a tradition. No, it’s an accident of randomness, negligence, stupidity and personal vendettas. https://theathletic.com/733813/2018/12/26/posnanski-how-the-lack-of-hall-of-fame-unanimity-became-a-thing-and-why-it-should-end-with-mariano-rivera
  4. Well, um, I will say in the 1st inning, he almost had Gregorius struck out. Then earlier on the 3-2 pitch to Judge, Santana made a great pitch, a slider low and away, Judge flailed at it but hit it for a single anyway. MLB coded that hit as a line drive and that's how it reads on all the play-by-play logs, but it only left Judge's bat at 72.5 MPH. But yeah, if "ifs and buts were candies and nuts".......
  5. As Chief said. The Twins have some interleague games in NL parks right away in April. I'd be disappointed if they didn't play Cruz in the OF a little.
  6. It's just an opinion. I do think Kirilloff is a very good prospect but do have questions about why he's ranked so high in national lists. I'd like to see him repeat it another year.
  7. He made his pitches in that game, just fine. It just didn't turn out too hot.
  8. Nice list. Now take out all the minor leaguers not named Lewis and drop Sano behind Gibson
  9. You probably see Buxton and Sano as somewhat similar players. That’s understandable given how they came up through the system as top prospects. Others will disagree, but I think the 2019 Twins can survive another disappointing Sano season. But, not another disappointing Buxton season.
  10. For the nth time, yes this is a subjective ranking. Also, Buxton and Sano are qualitatively different individuals— check that, they are basically opposites. There’s no internal contradiction in people who remain optimistic about Buxton and somewhat resigned to Sano, at this point.
  11. If... ...if I knew the Twins would sign Cruz, I would have liked to see them pick up ESan's option, or since the option was way overprice, maybe open a dialogue with Santana's side about an extension, say in the 2/16 range. I've liked Santana and still do. He is a bright, driven guy who will carve a niche if necessary with the drop in velocity.
  12. per Passan, ESPN The novel contract could see Kikuchi in Seattle for as few as three years and as many as seven, according to sources. The base deal is for three years and $43 million. Following the 2021 season, the Mariners can trigger a four-year, $66 million extension. If they decline to do so, Kikuchi either can trigger a $13 million option for the 2022 season or elect free agency. The deal guarantees $56 million and can be worth as much as $109 million.
  13. May has said in the past that his back doesn't hold up well to relief pitching every day. Maybe that's changed now, or will change with more practical expectations for our relievers. It's my belief that Reed and Pressly were overused last season, too (Reed needed DL time).
  14. Zimmer was already asking his captains if he had lost the locker room this year. Not a good sign. Minus a significant change of some sort, I see a huge letdown coming similar to Childress’s final year. Next year has 6-10 written all over it. They might not win 2 road games if you look at their schedule. This will be followed by Spielman drafting another Christian Ponder type QB high in the draft to take the place of Cousins when Cousins leaves. #purple
  15. Really good point. I'm sure those two have met and interacted before now, if not necessarily as teammates. We'll see if Cruz can make a difference.
  16. I do think you'll see a little less of guys warming up vigorously in the pen, then not getting in the game. I believe that has an impact on performance. Also for the first time in how long, the Twins won't have a Rule 5 or a Hughes type on their staff. That will help quite a bit. Those almost feel like free rosters slots this time around and should help keep them at 12 for stretches. I agree with the posters who want to play it straight and not get too carried away with experimentation in 2019. I want to see one or two more good arms added, and then trust they'll be smarter with usage of the arms they do have. The need for experimentation in 2019 is not that great, in my opinion.
  17. Meh, I'd probably have Sano in this 11-15 block, though probably closer to 11. He is what he is, which is ok, could be great, but probably not. I think most the other starters with team control plus some pitchers are just as valuable at this point.
  18. Understood why Dozier was left out. He's certainly an interesting case, and maybe that long-ish period he spent in A+ was what was best for him, whether he was coached or taught something new or just left to his own abilities.
  19. Good analysis. I will pose two follow-ups: 1. What would you conclude after applying the test above to Brian Dozier? 2. By saying “not knowing the strike zone” are you also saying “strikes out too much,” or, could there be a distinction between those two things?
  20. So both Spielman and Zimmer can stay. Not sure I agree.
  21. Priefer can pack his bags, too. Special teams has been overall poor since he won his macho-man contest over Kluwe way back when.
  22. Ok they get a couple more cracks at it. No margin for error. But yeah, either way, it’s completely disgraceful.
  23. Both teams going backwards. Awful Bears punt returner decision might be the play to spark something.
  24. Vikings weren’t subbing, but he stood over the ball until about 3 sec anyway.
  25. Exactly how I’d want the Bears to play this week going into next week, if I was a Bears fan.
