    The Correa signing in 2023 was the first little domino that brought down the Twins and the Pohlad era. A happy few warned about this back at the time. So, yeah. There were other things, but this was the big one.

    They needed to trade at least one of Correa, Lewis, or Lee. Also, Luke Keaschall looks like a really nice player. Kudos to the scouts who originally put eyes on him, and kudos to the front office for accelerating him through the minors—Keaschall was clearly ready for the challenge. They did the same fast promotion track with Luis Arraez. Reminds me of another rookie second baseman who came up in the 90s who looked really good. No, not Todd Walker, I am talking about Chuck Knoblauch… I agree with tony&rodney that I would have liked to know if there was a plan going into the deadline, or if they just got caught up in the moment. Maybe packaging Duran with Bader with a very good minor leaguer or one of the back end MLB starters, can get you Painter. I don’t how good Painter is but the board seemed to like him. Instead, they traded Duran and Bader to the same team separately. Maybe the outfielder from the Bader trade is the skill corner outfielder they are lacking. I would have extended Bader with the Twins, understanding that his hitting will revert. Keaschall, Bader, plus a healthy Lewis and Buxton, and suddenly the 2026 team would look quicker up the middle in the field and on the bases.

    The Duran trade was the bad trade that set all the other trades in motion. All we heard on this site was “Painter for Duran, Painter for Duran” then when it didn’t happen, it’s still a fantastic trade nonetheless. Yes, the Varland trade was bad too.

    I only half agree. The trades themselves are problems, too. Fans, at least in baseball, come to see players. The Seinfeld joke about rooting for laundry.. is just a stand up comic making a joke for laughs. A lot of fans loved Carlos Correa. You had Duran’s entrance. Bader’s hair flips—reminiscent of Brian Dozier. Louie Varland was apparently fairly popular behind the scenes, we are finding out. There was “Pablo Day” at Target Field. Will they bring that back next year? Bobble Head marketing idea for 2026: a generic unidentifiable Twins figurine, representing future value. Actually, the ball guys might like that idea. Seems kind of StatCast-y

    Baseball managers are lifetime appointments nowadays, dontchaknow. And to think, this was basically the same roster from 2023. What has changed? That Joe Ryan is better, and that Byron Buxton is finally performing to his ability, unlike in 2023? This roster was plenty good enough to make a postseason run. Last year or this year. Incredible.

    The Pohlads don’t want to invest in the success of the team, don’t get me wrong. But if all this was was an owner-mandated salary purge, Falvey failed even by that measure. Falvey might have stopped at simply trading Correa and taken credit for that, job well done, or gone the full way and traded Pablo, Joe Ryan or Jeffers on top of all the rest, but he didn’t do that either. if it’s a salary purge, the return is secondary, even if you’re trading Joe Ryan.

    Good post. I would say I agree with bits and pieces of it here. I firmly believe that the hitting piece comes with just settling into a regular role in the field and spot in the lineup. I have a protocol or conditions to test this (it’s all still in my head unfortunately) and I almost set to work on it a couple months ago, but it’s a lot of work and I don’t know the best new tools other then by hand. Maybe during the offseason I will circle back: the offseason comes early in Twins Territory under this regime.

    Yes they did. They weren’t the most talented team in the AL but they had more than enough talent to make a postseason run. it was basically the same team they had in 2023, except Buxton is finally healthy. So probably better than 2023.

    They called a time out and did the egg toss game early in spring training in 2023, so there were issues at least that far back.

    It’s overall. nice sentiment, and well-written. I do wonder if Rocco’s blend of nice guy incompetence is part of why the clubhouse is no fun place to be.

    Sell-offs are a losing game. There’s nothing wrong with making a couple of deals during a lost season, but that’s not what happened here. Selling is for losers. That’s how I pegged these guys the 2018 deadline, and the events at 2025 deadline have finally confirmed it for everyone.

    Nothing about ‘payroll’ either, not even a hint or nod or sideways remark about it. Leads me to think the tragedy of yesterday was the result of one man, acting alone, who caught a bad fever. I also think he believes every word of that letter.

    The Twins traded away the team’s top three relief pitchers. All three were under team control, none were ‘rentals’. Each had settled into roles and the bullpen formed a cohesion around them. It can take years to identify and test pitchers who can fill those late inning relief roles over the long term, and find success. If you don’t believe me, go back and look at some of the pitchers who have been brought in over the last several seasons. Duran, Jax, and Varland were the nucleus of a relief corps that got the job done during the 2023 postseason, and could hopefully support a postseason run in the future. All three of them are gone now. No, trading away your top three relief pitchers, combined with all the other moves, is not a rebuild or ‘full re-set’ or whatever you want to call it.

    I see nothing funny about what is happening today. It is sad. Fans are owed answers and ticket holders deserve remedies.
