  1. The most remarkable thing about Genesis Cabrera's career is he has somehow accumulated enough service time to qualify for free agency.
  2. OPS has been popular since the mid-1980s and on baseball cards since 2004. Is a 40-year old stat "new age"? Look at the OPS leaders - they're all great hitters. If you want a really misleading stat for offensive production - use RBI.
  3. So much self-contradiction here. If winning teams aren't built around .204 hitters, then why would another team look to Wallner to improve their offense? Large market teams almost always have an old, expensive, fading star to play at DH. Contenders get All-Stars like Soto and Judge to play in RF. Wallner's best fit is probably on a team like the Twins - low budget and lacking offense. Maybe you could get Tampa, Colorado or the Royals interested.
  4. Minor League Relief Pitcher of the Year is kind of like awarding a Minor League Utility Player of the Year. Both roles are filled mainly by non-prospect organizational filler. I am not a believer in the 3-inning relief pitcher role for the majors. However, it seems to be a decent way train future potential relievers in the minors without starving them of innings.
  5. Outman has better AAA numbers than Fedko. Kyler Fedko .268/.353/.476 in 187 PA James Outman .283/.382/.579 in 959 PA
  6. He had a .370 OBP in 2023-24. Getting on base is a good thing. Even as his average declined, he kept taking his walks. It's one reason his RBI numbers are bad - with RISP he has 11 hits and 14 walks. A .177 average but a .329 OBP. Pitchers are much more careful pitching to him with runners on because they know any mistake could go over the fence. Wallner had a down year, you could tell he had some bad streaks at the plate where he was fighting it. The bigger problem for him has been staying on the field. 104 games played is a career high, and it isn't anything special. He actually hit lefties better than RHP this season. He hasn't shown a huge platoon split in the minors either. I wouldn't turn him into a platoon bat. I think he will spend a lot more time at DH, especially on the road, with Martin, Rodriguez and Jenkins showing better outfield range. I don't think he's a first baseman. If he can keep making those adjustments at the plate, he's a good bet to be a 2 WAR player next season. If he can play 150 games, he's probably going to hit 30 HR.
  7. I was enjoying the pitchers duel last night. When I saw Cabrera and Ohl warming up in the bullpen I decided to read a book instead of finishing the game.
  8. And I'm fine with it. It's good for them to learn which players can bunt, steal and take the extra base. The wins and losses are meaningless right now. It's extended spring training for everyone. If they don't practice that stuff now then they'll be too afraid to try it in games where it might matter.
  9. It's actually really easy to measure the positive value of an extra base versus the negative value of an additional out. This isn't a grey area.
  10. Kody Clemens made some plays at 2B. He might be their best fielder at that position. Brooks Lee clanked another grounder.
  11. Vazquez OPS+ by season 2023 64 2024 61 2025 45 2026 Will it be higher or lower than his age (35)?
  12. His defense has been pretty good this season. Throw out his horrible April and he's had an okay year. Not the All-Star we hoped for with a 1-1 pick but a decent major leaguer.
  13. They have a projected payroll less than $100M they don't need to cut anyone to add a $3M contract.
  14. If he is still in their plans then they're not trying to win next year either.
  15. It hasn't helped their win-loss record at all. Their overall baserunning value is -8. Buxton is +6, Keaschall +2, Lewis +1 and the rest of the team has cost them 17 runs on the bases.
  16. It suggests he will have a very good career, but it doesn't suggest he's ready for the big leagues right now.
  17. They're not going to trade Wallner and keep Larnach. BTW - there is a whole separate thread for 2026 roster guesses.
  18. Agree on both counts. I would swap Outman for Isaiah Kiner-Falefa. I expect them to get a reliever in return for Larnach. I expect them to pick up Topa's cheap option and possibly move Festa to the bullpen as well. That would bump 3 guys off the roster above. There are a number of possible first basemen (Hoskins, Mountcastle, Arraez, Naylor, O'Hearn, Moancada, Suarez, Nathaniel Lowe, Miguel Andujar)
  19. Walker Jenkins may actually need to work on things. His batting line in AAA was not impressive. Prielipp will be 25 next season and due to his past injuries, I don't expect him to have a long MLB career. Bring him up and use him in the bullpen.
  20. Gosh I hope not. That would be waving a white flag on 2026. Outman turns 29 in May and he's been bad for two straight years. He's past his prime just like Manny Margot. Nobody will pick him up on waivers. They'll be able to sign him as a minor league free agent if they cut him from the 40-man roster.
  21. Fedko hit .268/.353/.476 in 187 PA in AAA Outman has hit .283/.382/.579 in 870 PA in AAA Gonzalez hit .316/.358/.504 in 148 PA in AAA Rodriguez hit .258/.429/.423 in 212 PA in AAA Why are you so anxious to call up an outfielder who has hit worse than Outman, Gabriel Gonzalez, and Emmanuel Rodriguez at AAA? Gonzalez has to be added to the 40-man and Rodriguez is already on the 40-man. Both should be ahead of Fedko in the pecking order.
  22. A bench of Martin (RH), Clemens (LH) and Lee (both) would be pretty good. Unfortunately, it looks like each of them will be starters.
  23. Who is the third? SWR? This team cannot afford to pay big money to pitchers in their mid-30s. They already have his ages 30 and 31 seasons. They don't want to spend $25-30M a season for ages 32, 33, 34.
  24. Buster Posey took over in 2022, after both of those trades. Besides, the Twins weren't forced to make either trade.
