If Jeffers told them he would turn down a QO as rumored, he did the team a huge favor. He said, keep me for the pennant race and you will still get your draft pick.

It’s almost like SS and LF have different expectations for offensive production. If Walker Jenkins could play SS, I would be enthusiastically supporting his promotion.

I think they improved the team by 2-3 wins over the remaining games. That could be enough to make the playoffs and it should be enough to have meaningful games in September. They didn’t sacrifice any talent who could help the team in the next 3 seasons.

It is a lot easier to buy a reliever than to find a meaningful upgrade on offense. Arraez might have been their only option.

Is it? You can only bat 9 players. Gray is the only backup infielder in case of injury, unless they move Keaschall back to the infield.

Tristan Gray has 2 at bats since his call up. He might get a couple more before Buxton returns. Lots of consternation over a few at bats.

38 games x 4AB = 152AB so they also need to be careful about playing time. ROY status makes them eligible for the prospect promotion incentive. Neither Jenkins nor Culpepper is forcing their way up at the moment.

Hoffman is an asset at $7.25M. This is basically selling Hill for $3.75M. I am changing my mind from liking the trade to really liking the trade.

I would have outrighted Klein in the offseason, if not sooner. Not worth protecting on the 40-man roster. Pena is a second baseman with no pop in his bat. It is essentially Hoffman for Hill. Hill has a career 6.5 BB per 9 and has been worse this season at 7.4. Who knows if he can put it together before he becomes Rule 5 eligible in 2028.
