  1. I always thought of command as being able to get the movement you need to make the pitch effective and control was being able to locate. If you can't "command" your breaking pitch, you can't get it to break. If you leave your curveball up, you couldn't "control" it. I agree that they are used sloppily.
  2. How about this alignment to start 2016? 1B Mauer 2B Dozier 3B Plouffe SS Escobar LF Rosario CF Hicks RF Sano (can rotate to 1B and 3B also) DH Vargas UT Danny Santana (can play infield or outfield) C Suzuki C TBD (I like Wieters as a starter or Brayan Pena as a platoon partner) OF/DH - Arcia AAA outfield depth - Walker, Buxton and Kepler, AAA infield depth - Jorge Polanco, Levi Michael Buxton should force his way up fairly quickly and Kepler may also but neither has spent much time in AAA.
  3. Kuo Hua Lo - any reason why he repeated Betsy for the 3rd time this year? He dominated but was pretty good last season.
  4. Long relief. I think Nolasco has better stuff than Blaine Boyer.
  5. WAR gives a leverage bonus to relievers and they still can't match starting pitchers.
  6. Plays well with Suzuki too. Suzuki is good at blocking pitches in the dirt and you don't need to frame a pitch like that. You're fooling the batter, not the umpire.
  7. Maybe it's just the name but Placido Polanco was a very useful player who didn't play much SS in the big leagues. Instead he played 3B or 2B depending on where he was needed. Maybe Jorge Polanco can follow in that mold. That means he probably spends all of next season at Rochester as a utility player. Levi Michael isn't supposed to have the arm for anywhere but second base. My guess is he's also at Rochester next year.
  8. Pat Dean trending up, Taylor Rogers trending down...
  9. Gonsalves is having a great year. He's younger than Tyler Jay and having better results at the same level of competition.
  10. I think there's one spot for Arcia or Vargas. The Twins aren't going to carry two guys who can't field. I believe Vargas still has options for next season.
  11. I saw English a week or so ago. My guess is a lot of that "pop" is speed. He had a hustle double in the game I saw that wouldn't happen with an MLB caliber outfielder. He's an above average baserunner but I don't think his swing is exceptionally powerful.
  12. I'd move Santana to get Shields. Bigger contract commitment for the Twins but a better pitcher.
  13. I would love it if Vargas could hit well enough to be a major league DH. Sano can play the field and my guess is RF is his spot next season.
  14. RH relievers on the Twins with a K/9 better than Jepsen <blank>
  15. How does Gonsalves miss out on top pitcher? I guess 8 shutout is better than 5.
  16. If he can hit low and away with authority then it's hard to get him out
  17. Troubling note about ABW strikeout rate increasing in July in today's Pioneer Press.
  18. I'd be interested in trading established major leaguers for Tulowitzki (Ervin Santana, Tommy Milone and Trevor Plouffe?) but young talent not so much. Maybe they would bite on a quantity-over-quality package of Danny Santana, Adam Brett Walker, Alex Meyer and Kohl Stewart but unlikely.
  19. Farris will probably not play in the big leagues for anyone. Ortiz might get a shot with a different organization or Japan but also unlikely.
  20. The best option this offseason for catcher might be a free agent. Matt Wieters is not going to cost a ton.
