  1. I hope all the thumbs-downs are from Topa fans who are upset that I compared him to Rogers. Topa performed much better than Taylor Rogers last season.
  2. FIP WHIP H9 HR9 BB9 SO9 SO/BB 4.38 1.382 8.3 1.2 4.1 9.4 2.30 3.35 1.512 9.7 0.4 4.0 8.8 2.22 The difference between Taylor Rogers and Kody Funderburk is Rogers gives up more dingers. Statcast has Taylor Rogers with a 8th percentile fastball, 20th percentile for hard hit. He's a sinker/slider guy now and his sinker gets hit really hard (.403 WOBA). It's an upgrade on Genesis Cabrera, but I don't want Taylor Rogers anywhere near a close game in the late innings.
  3. Adding another Topa-level arm to the bullpen. Another "floor" move that doesn't help the ceiling.
  4. If they want another Baez level player they can sign any minor league free agent. He is a non-prospect.
  5. I will agree that they upgraded Gasper to Gray in two moves. They removed someone who doesn't belong on a 40-man roster and added someone who does. Same with Wagaman versus Ryan Fitzgerald. They have also added two players who belong on a 26-man roster in Caratini and Bell. They still have three players on their 40-man who don't belong on the roster at all (Julien, Outman, Kreidler).
  6. That's putting a lot of faith in the last 16 games of the season. It's boosted by going 4 for 9 in 3 games against a Texas team that was going through the motions. They can't platoon Julien and play him against teams that don't care for a whole season.
  7. Roster fit is a LOT more important than ballpark fit. The Reds and Pirates are each looking for a LH OF/DH.
  8. I'm not sure why this roster needed another Kody Clemens, but he's probably more useful than Eddie Julien.
  9. So, who is going to be left without a roster spot in two weeks? My bet is one of the fading starting pitchers (Jon Gray, Jose Quintana, Martin Perez, Chris Paddack, Marcus Stroman, etc) decides to take a spot in the Twins bullpen to keep his career going.
  10. Ed Julien throws 4 Mph faster than Keaschall. Should he stay at 2B? Wallner throws 96 MPH, maybe they should move him to second.
  11. I'm glad whatever AI that wrote that comment agrees with me.
  12. Quickness on the pivot and accuracy are more important than MPH on the throw. The throw is less than 90 feet. The difference between 73 MPH (107.1 ft/s) and 85 MPH (124.7 ft/s) (the range of velocity for MLB second basemen) over 90 feet is 0.84 - 0.72 = 0.12 seconds. The time it takes to turn the pivot ranges from 0.7 to 1.0 seconds. The average baserunner is running 27 ft/s, which means the difference between the max and min 2B throw velocity is 3 feet, but the time spent on the pivot is 8 feet for the baserunner. I looked for ratings on how long it takes 2B to turn the pivot but couldn't find anything on statcast.
  13. His “outfield mojo” of 83 MPH was well below average in the outfield. First and second base are the positions where arm matters the least.
  14. The average CF throws 90MPH, 87 MPH for LF. 83 MPH is still a weak arm for an outfielder. Trevor Larnach throws 83 MPH. Infield and outfield throws are different, which leads to different max velocities. Adam Frazier threw 80 MPH in the outfield last year but only 76 MPH at 2B. Addison Barger was 5 MPH slower at 3B than he was in RF. If he was clocked at 83 MPH in the outfield in high school, that doesn't mean he'll throw 83 MPH in the infield. You need to subtract 4-6 MPH for the difference in throwing mechanics. 78 MPH in the infield would be average for 2B.
  15. Do you mean Ryan Pressly? The fans get upset and project all sorts of emotions onto players.
  16. Not if they’re winning. If they’re winning the division they hold him. Trading him for a reliever makes the 2026 team worse. There aren’t any relievers worth as much as Jeffers.
  17. In the immediate near-term, someone has to come off the 40-man roster. Jackson, Outman and Julien are the most likely to leave unless they want to try to get Brujan or Kreidler through waivers now.
  18. I have that problem occasionally on my phone but rarely on the laptop.
  19. Trading Jeffers for a reliever sounds like a terrible idea. He's in his final year of arbitration, which means he's getting paid near market value. As we get closer to the trade deadline, his remaining salary will be lower. It's also possible (likely?) one of the MLB catchers on a contending team gets injured. Jeffers becomes more valuable if that opportunity arises. I am a little sad that the Caratini deal closes the door on a Ryan Jeffers extension. The front office really blew it not extending him after the 2024 season. This team absolutely has to offer contract extensions to their home-grown players if they want to compete. They can't spend two years developing a player only to get two or three prime years before they're forced to sell when they run out of team control.
  20. Do they need righties? They have Buxton, Lewis, Jeffers, Martin and Keaschall. Caratini, Lee and Bell switch-hit. That's 8 RHB in the line up against lefties.
  21. Caratini and Jeffers should be able to equally share the catching duties. Against LHP it would be great to have Caratini at 1B and Jeffers behind the plate. Jeffers can get his days off against tough RHP with Caratini catching and Kody Clemens at 1B.
  22. MLB Trade Rumors reporting that Tampa is interested in improving their catching.
  23. They have enough starting pitchers on the depth chart to fill the MLB rotation, the Saints rotation AND part of the rotation at Wichita. Some of them NEED to move to the bullpen, which is mostly empty of talent. Ryan, Lopez, Ober, Bradley, Woods-Richardson Matthews, Festa, Abel, Prielipp, Morris Rojas, Raya, Culpepper, Klein
  24. No, he's dismissed out of hand, because why would the Twins play their best prospects when they can block them with veteran minor leaguers like Kyler Fedko and James Outman.
