    Johan Santana and David Cone look really good compared to the current generation of starting pitchers. Yet they couldn't even stay on the ballot.

    I think this season they should think less about buying veterans with prospects or selling veterans for prospects and more about remaking the roster by dealing vets for vets. Example: send Kepler out for an expensive, mediocre reliever. I think buyers will outnumber sellers at the deadline so there will be an opportunity for buyers to deal with each other.

    I didn't see it mentioned anywhere that Ryan threw a no-walker. Was everyone making sure they didn't discuss it to keep from jinxing the no-walker? Is that the first no-walker of the 2023 season? Who is the last pitcher to throw a no-walker?

    Popkins isn't the reason Kepler isn't performing. Kepler's 30 and he peaked at age 26. Hitting coaches can't reverse time.

    I doubt Solano continues at that pace for the rest of the year. That would make 2023 his best season of production ever. ZIPS projects him at a 106 wRC+ for the remainder of the season. That's what you would want Miranda and/or Williams to replace.

    It would be hilarious if the entire AL Central sold at the deadline.

    Solano is earning his paycheck. There is a role for a cheap, RH bench bat who can play the field. Once we get past the first arbitration year for Miranda they should probably re-evaluate.

    I don't want him playing 3B for the Twins except in an emergency. He's not good enough. I think when Miranda grows up he's going to be Solano.

    Solano is 3rd in plate appearances for the Twins. That's plenty of playing time for Miranda. Miranda (or Chris Williams) and Julien could share first base. Outfield of Larnach, Taylor and Kirilloff. Wallner at DH. That isn't going to be worse than what they're doing right now.

    If you want to bring up Miranda find a home for Solano and give him that role. I think they can go with the youth movement and still win the division. In fact, it might be their best chance to win the division. Larnach looks better than Kepler in the outfield. Wallner or Julien looks better than Buxton at DH. Sands and Winder can replace Lopez and Pagan.

    I have confidence Buxton will be out for the season within a week if they make him play the outfield. He currently can't stay healthy as a DH.

    Phillies Designate Dalton Guthrie For Assignment - MLB Trade Rumors I'd drop Garlick and add this guy to the 40 man roster as the righthanded AAA outfielder. Doesn't hurt that his dad was Mark Guthrie.

    This is a fair point. They are convinced that the problem last season was that they didn't have enough depth and they lost because they had too many injuries. The front office tried very hard this offseason to make sure they have plenty of depth (at least among position players). This is why Larnach is stuck in AAA while Kepler continues to demonstrate he is not worth starting. It's behind some of their "load management" giving players who are performing well days off to make sure nobody gets injured. It keeps some of their worst players in the lineup more than they deserve. Ultimately it speaks poorly of the front office that they're still trying to solve last season's problems. They are too slow to react to the current season. It takes them forever to finally cut loose underperforming players.

    Any word on whether people are considering Watkins as a future manager? He's well liked in the organization.

    Looks like the Saints saw some really bad pitching last week.

    Everyone looks good when you send them to AAA for a while. Larnach has a 1200 OPS in AAA versus a 700 OPS in the big leagues. If you aren't above a 1000 OPS in AAA you probably aren't ready for a promotion.

    Yes, and sometimes it takes getting beat up in the big leagues to listen to the coaches who tell you "that isn't going to work with better hitters"

    There are also a lot more Saints games. AAA has 150 games versus the American Association which only plays 100 games. That's 25 extra home dates to sell; 50% more tickets available.

    It's about location and working on that requires innings. He's probably due to go back to AAA to improve. That's not unusual for a rookie. MLB has a tendency to expose weaknesses quickly.

    Worst moment of the game was seeing Taylor get beaned. It got up under the helmet and he was clearly hurting.
