    SS was the biggest hole coming into the season and it is still the biggest hole in July. Arcia will give them a 650 OPS with bad defense. Their only internal solution is Culpepper. Hopefully he gets promoted soon.

    This is why you shouldn’t make conclusions based on small sample sizes. He came into this season with a career OPS of 76 in 153 plate appearances. This season he has an OPS of 64 in 176 PA. The Twins are getting just slightly less than they should have expected from Gray.

    Think about it in reverse. If the Twins didn’t have Ryan Jeffers on the roster, would you suggest they give up two top pitching prospects (ex Rojas and Hill) to obtain him for the last 3 months of the season?

    If the Twins wanted to spend that much on a catcher they would already have a contract extension with Jeffers.

    He’s also 30. Guys like him rarely have a career past age 32.

    Like someone else mentioned, I am not able to keep my eyes glued to the screen for every second. The play by play helps me know when to play fetch with the dog and when to pay attention to the screen. I suppose I could turn on the radio, but it is completely out of sync with the video feed.

    That only works if they aren’t cutting away from the game feed to show video of the announcers. That happened way too many times yesterday. If they do a split screen it becomes unwatchable on a small screen like a laptop or mobile phone.

    There are hundreds (thousands?) of talking head sports shows and podcasts. There is one Twins baseball game per day. I think they would work well as a “halftime show” but baseball doesn’t have halftime.

    I like when the analysts rotate. People only have so many entertaining stories to tell. I want the play-by-play back. There were whole sections of the game action I had to look up on the app to figure out what happened.

    Ugh, I’d rather not. Radio morning shows are repetitive drivel.

    It has been a lot of fun. Tom Pohlad was so amused he emptied his wallet. I still miss having someone tell me if there is a pitching change or a pinch hitter.

    We are watching Kreidler’s OPS plummet in real time. He’s probably still worth playing with a 550 OPS since he’s the only player they have who can actually play SS.

    Not really. They could give extensions to Royce Lewis and Taj Bradley and front-load the money.

    The White Sox and the Rays may have the luxury to “get cute”. They can essentially offer pick #3 slot money ($9.7M) and see if the player they like best will take it. Emerson might take pick #3 money to go #1 which would leave the White Sox with $1.6M to use elsewhere in the draft. The Twins are just going to pick the best guy remaining and give him a slot value bonus.

    https://library.fangraphs.com/pitching/game-score/ 77 is an excellent game score. The stat is designed so a perfect game is around 100. Bailey Ober’s “Maddux” complete game was a 90.     Zoll is the head, but Sean Johnson is the assistant GM in charge of amateur scouting and the draft.

    There is a ton of video now. I would be surprised if Zoll hasn’t watched video of a few dozen players. I am sure Sean Johnson has watched video on hundreds.

    I got to attend this game on a cloudy, humid evening. I really enjoyed watching the.Cleveland defense fall apart and give a game to the Twins. The team who played the best defense won the game. Royce had a lot of trouble with the Guardians starter. I don’t think he hits lefties very well. Lee also struggled. Kody Clemens did not seem to have the same issues. Fedko looks desperate to get a hit. This debut is obviously not happening like he dreamed about. MLB has crushed a lot of dreams over the years. Taj was terrific and so was the bullpen. Thanks to Special Olympics for the free tickets. It was fun seeing athletes around us wearing USA games medals the size of dinner plates. For those that like to complain about cost: parking $16 (and I saw $3 parking a half mile away) six hot dogs, pretzel, peanuts and nachos, two beverages for about $35. Total was roughly $50 plus gas for the evening.
