Twins Daily 2026 Top Prospects: #7 Gabriel Gonzalez, OF
DJL44 replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
It is hard to think of good comps for this guy Naylor might be a best-case scenario for Gonzalez except he bats lefthanded. Austin Hays? -
The delay is annoying. I think some batters might be using it as an additional timeout. They could speed it up a little.

Twins Daily 2026 Top 20 Prospects: #9 Marek Houston, SS

If he continues to hit .150 in Cedar Rapids they’ll need to do something. -
Twins Daily 2026 Top 20 Prospects: #9 Marek Houston, SS
DJL44 replied to Adam Friedman's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Everyone should be thrilled if a batter has an OBP above .350. That's better than Byron Buxton did last season. Marek Houston could be another Taylor Walls. That's still a valuable player. -
Minnesota Twins 2026 Position Analysis: Second Base
DJL44 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If he had an elite glove, then maybe we could talk about MVP. He doesn't have an elite glove. Only 7 second basemen have won an MVP in the last 70 years. Jose Altuve 2017 Dustin Pedroia 2008 Jeff Kent 2000 Ryne Sandberg 1984 Joe Morgan 1975, 1976 Nellie Fox 1959 Keaschall looks more like a decent regular who could make an All-Star team at least once.- 19 replies

As with any extension, the question is what dollar amount. The Twins already have his next competitive season - 2027 - under contract. They also have the right to extend a qualifying offer in 2028 (assuming no changes to the CBA). Would Lopez turn down $25M for 2028? A move to extend Lopez for 2028-29 would have to be cheap enough to guard against the downside that he is not effective at age 32 after two elbow surgeries. I'd say a 2 year $16M extension ($8M per season) is the right amount for me. I really doubt Lopez would have any interest in that. If he comes back healthy, he's looking at a $25M qualifying offer or a 3-year contract somewhere else.

Report From The Fort: Joe Ryan's WBC On Pause
DJL44 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The WBC should be a great showcase for Ryan and Buxton. I hope they are able to participate in some meaningful games for Team USA. The Twins won't have many meaningful games this season but Ryan and Buxton could each be playing for the postseason on new clubs. -
If the Twins really want Jackson in 2027 they should be able to sign him after he's non-tendered.

We are seeing now why "non-tender" was the best choice this offseason.

Outman is far less intriguing than Martin, Roden, Rodriguez, Jenkins or Gonzalez.

The first paragraph spells out why they shouldn't - they want Jeffers to catch 110 games. That means there are only 50 games left for the backup catcher. Do you need two backup catchers to cover 50 games? Does Jackson even catch 15 games in that scenario? Is that a good use of a limited roster? Jackson cost nearly nothing to acquire. If they need a different Jackson due to injury, they can spend another low ceiling prospect to acquire someone new. Really, the only reason to carry three catchers on the Opening Day roster is you're still trying to work out a Ryan Jeffers trade and the details aren't completely agreed upon.

The Phillies reportedly want to add Aidan Miller to the roster. Edmundo Sosa might be good enough to start for the Twins and move Brooks Lee to the bench.- 22 replies

Candidates for the Twins Bench in 2026
DJL44 replied to Ray Stuedemann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thinking about this a bit more It is depressing that their best late bench moves involve removing LF/RF/1B/DH for a pinch hitter or for defense. If Clemens, Wallner and Larnach are all in the game on defense and Bell is the DH, there are not enough pinch hitters available for all three of them. You get one move that helps with batting and defense - Austin Martin. Caratini pinch hits for Clemens and there is nobody left to pinch hit for Wallner or Brooks Lee. The roster construction pretty much demands you play Larnach at DH, and you end up with a DH who needs a pinch hitter.- 22 replies

Candidates for the Twins Bench in 2026
DJL44 replied to Ray Stuedemann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If you look at how the Twins would use their bench, it makes sense to 1) Remove Wallner, Lee and Bell for defense/baserunning late in the game. One of those subs will be Kody Clemens. This gives Kreidler an edge over Gray. 2) Use the backup C as a pinch hitter for Larnach (which means you want him at DH) If they go with Kreidler as the backup SS/CF and keep both Roden and Outman off the roster, that opens up a spot for Wagaman to be the RH pinch hitter. I really don't like carrying a guy for only defense or only batting. History shows that the "only defense" guy will bat way too often and this team already has too many DH.- 22 replies

Candidates for the Twins Bench in 2026
DJL44 replied to Ray Stuedemann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
LF Projections for 2026 Martin .263/.340/.384 with average defense Larnach .250/.327/.418 with below average defense Why is Martin considered the "bench" guy and Larnach the "starter"? I expect Martin to be in LF almost every day with Larnach DH against RHP and sitting the bench against LHP. I am expecting the bench to be Caratini, Clemens and Gray with Outman (690 OPS projected) fighting Roden (661 OPS projected) for the last roster spot.- 22 replies
