  1. That was Ted Williams' idea as well - keep your swing slightly uppercut to match the plane of the incoming pitch. Hit dingers on low pitches where optimum launch angle = swing plane. If you max out on launch angle you will hit more HR and have more swing and miss. There are people who believe this is fine because missing the ball means you avoid making weak contact and have a chance to swing at the next pitch.
  2. Future payroll is mostly irrelevant when it comes to determining whether the Twins should sign Royce Lewis long-term. The discount they can expect gets smaller with each passing day. Superstar players on their first contract are very tradeable. We're looking at two scenarios: 1) The Twins go through the arbitration process with Lewis. They're going to be forced to trade him after the 2027 season just like they were with Santana and Berrios. Also see the Padres and Juan Soto. 2) The Twins sign him to a 10 year $220M deal. They can trade his contract at any time until the 2032 season (when he gets 10-5 rights) or hold onto him until the end of the contract like they did with Joe Mauer.
  3. Getting the playoff money windfall helps the franchise. Getting Royce Lewis and the other young players experience in the playoffs helps the franchise. Plus, you can't win the World Series if you're sitting at home while other teams participate in the playoffs.
  4. The Austin Riley deal is a great comparable. 10 years, $212M. I don't see Royce signing for anything less than that. If the Twins came to Royce with that offer this offseason they would show they are serious.
  5. They are not a guaranteed playoff team. Keeping ahead of the Red Sox and Royals has value.
  6. Farmer has 31 plate appearances in June with an 800 OPS. He had 36 plate appearances with a .640 OPS in May. Lee might be able to put up the same offense but I'm not sure why anyone wants him to only get 30-35 plate appearances a month.
  7. I haven't checked Tigers Daily but I imagine it's incessant complaining about how dumb the Tigers front office is to have let go of Willi Castro.
  8. Fangraphs likes Doncon better than Miller. They aren't the only prospect hounds who think MN got the better part of that deal.
  9. Wallner still can't hit lefties. He's striking out about 30% of the time vs RHP and 45% vs LHP. Splits are 906 OPS vs RH pitching and 592 OPS vs LHP in AAA.
  10. With that many buyers and few sellers we could see some major leaguer for major leaguer trades instead of vets for prospects like we usually see at the deadine.
  11. Festa is the only one with potential to be better than Paddack. Let's see what he's got.
  12. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/minnesota-twins-top-44-prospects-2024/ Surprises: Woods-Richardson at 20 (seriously, he's already done more than most prospects will ever do) Gabby Gonzalez at 15 Dameury Pena at 10 Rayne Doncon at 11 (rated one tier higher than Noah Miller) Yunior Severino at 40 (Below Salas)
  13. Miranda has been a better option than Arraez this season if you're looking for a DH or 1B. The Twins are 7th in wOBA (and trending up since adding Lewis). They don't have room for Wallner, Kirilloff, Julien or Lee on the 26 man roster. If they want to add a DH bat they should look for someone like JD Martinez who can really hit, not Arraez.
  14. Arraez has been the worst fielding 2B in the majors this year.
  15. That's a huge defensive downgrade without much offensive upside. The Twins don't need to add more infielders.
  16. Unfortunately. I'd rather they chased pure rentals. They cost a lot less and have less future injury risk.
  17. There is a spot open for Festa on the 40 man roster.
