  1. Pitchers who should be in the top 30: CJ Culpepper, Charlee Soto, Connor Prielipp, Andrew Morris, Marco Raya, Adrian Bohorquez, Cory Lewis, Travis Adams, Dasan Hill Ugh, 9 arms in the top 30 is terrible.
  2. It's great that they are doing well scouting international players. Too bad they can't find any pitchers. We've seen spots 16-29 on the list and the only pitcher is perpetually injured Matt Canterino. If they want to be competitive going forward 14 of the next 15 slots on the list should be pitchers. I know that won't happen which highlights how shallow this organization is when it comes to pitching.
  3. If Olivar's bat is good enough and his defense at catcher is bad enough to move him to LF they'll move him there. I don't see him as a "hybrid" player as much as they're preparing a backup plan in case he can't hack it behind the plate. Catching is hard enough work that it is unlikely the team will want to play him in the outfield on his off days. They'll pick someone else who doesn't have dead legs from squatting for hours the previous day.
  4. It looks like the hurricane might blow the Rays out of St. Pete. The Rays new stadium plan might lose its funding The Rays funded the opponents to the new council members who won and the winners are not appreciative of that. The new members have a very good point that spending $700M on a baseball stadium is not the priority when so much civil infrastructure is destroyed. One council member wants the Rays to play in Al Lang field in the meantime which seats 7500 and is not as good of a facility as CHS Field.
  5. deGrom has averaged 53 innings pitched per season over the last 5 seasons. He pitched 10 innings last year. Do you think he's going to pitch 150 innings in 2025? Less than 1% chance of that happening. Tyler Mahle has never been durable - one season above 120 innings over the last 5. He pitched 12-2/3 innings in 2024. He's had multiple shoulder injuries over the past 5 seasons in addition to the torn elbow ligament. He's also very unlikely to give the Rangers 150 innings. These guys are a lot like Paddack as far as durability. Would you bet the over on 160 innings combined from deGrom and Mahle? I wouldn't. Then there's Jon Gray who was injured several times and ended the season in the IL. Kumar Rocker pitched less than 50 innings. Bradford pitched 82 innings. I would estimate the Rangers need to cover an additional 300-400 innings out of their rotation (assuming they don't trade Jon Gray).
  6. The Twins are not signing Sasaki. He's coming over early to play for a World Series caliber team. He can make up the money he loses by coming over early with endorsement deals in a large market but that ain't happening in the Twin Cities (though I would have loved to hear Sasaki endorse Sheboygan sausages).
  7. I think adding Olivar now would be a year too early. I doubt he will be one of the top 25 guys left unprotected. 10 guys were selected last season, but only two position players. Most organizations have their own catcher they like as much as Olivar.
  8. They got 126 innings out of these three pitchers combined in 2024. There are rumors they are looking to trade Gray.
  9. Every year teams start the season with pitchers worse than Paddack in the rotation. Pretty much any pitcher worth starting is worth paying $7.5M. Paddack has very little trade value but there are plenty of other players in MLB with very little trade value who would fit the Twins roster better. Several of those players make less money than Paddack. Leody Tavares is also on that top 35 players to get traded list. He's an extra outfielder for the Rangers but a great fit for the Twins at $4.5M. The Rangers are desperate for starting pitching after losing most of their rotation. Tyrone Taylor of the Mets would be a good fit in the same way. There are other teams with a relief pitcher getting paid $3-4M who might want to upgrade that spot to a starter making $7.5M.
  10. The Twins need another outfielder who can play defense. Buxton will only play 80-110 games. The flip side is Buxton is going to play 80-110 games which makes the guy you obtain a part-time player. You don't trade a starting pitcher for a part-time player. Michael A Taylor will sign for league minimum if you really want an all-glove backup CF.
  11. Dodgers are moving Mookie Betts back to the infield
  12. Julien was 25 in 2024, the age when defense peaks.. He's been coached for many years at 2B and he's the 4th best option defensively (maybe 6th behind Martin and Eeles). He's higher on the depth chart at 1B.
  13. What's coming back? I doubt the proposed trade is Volpe for Correa. Would the Mets give up Ronny Mauricio?
  14. MLB Trade Rumors mentioned that the Dodgers may be looking for more international bonus money so they can ensure they have the top bid for Roki Sasaki. The Twins have one of the largest allocations of international bonus money. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/11/npbs-chiba-lotte-marines-to-post-roki-sasaki-for-mlb-clubs.html It would be interesting if the Twins traded away all of their bonus money to the Dodgers for prospects in the Dodger system. The Twins are looking for ways to cut costs and this could reduce expenses by $7M while adding older, better scouted talent from within the Dodgers farm system.
  15. Julien is never going to be a good defender at 2B. At best he's below average.
  16. Second base defense is a multiplier. Turning double plays is a big deal for run prevention.
  17. He should be. Falvey compared Royce Lewis to Ryne Sandberg the other day so I think he has tipped his hand.
  18. Derek Falvey is responsible for obtaining talent. Looking down the org chart: Director, Player Development: Drew MacPhail Director, Professional Player Procurement: Brad Steil If there are no good catchers in the minor leagues - that's who to blame. Not the major league coaching staff.
  19. The Giants may not have interest, but I think Correa would have interest in playing for a team that is trying to win and the Twins would have interest in getting his contract off the books.
  20. I don't see a lot of big moves happening with a lame duck POBO. However, if the Giants (who are interested in a SS) call about Carlos Correa I am going to guess that he gets dealt. That would let them drop payroll below $100M.
  21. I could read that sentence and I'm not a caretaker. I agree that the premise is a false choice.
  22. It might be a good year to sign Jeffers to a multi-year contract. They certainly don't have anyone else in the near-term. He's only made $3M in his career so far. A 3 year contract takes him to age 30. Vazquez and his $10M drops off the books next season. Would Jeffers sign for $4M/$7M/$10M with a $10M option / $1M buyout for 2028?
  23. A stat is just a number. If I compared hitters using just HBP data do you think my analysis would be sound?
