  1. It's really just 3 spots. Every team carries two catchers and the second catcher is expected to play 40% of the games. Nobody has room to carry a position player they don't want to play.
  2. I expect Culpepper's development will not happen at an accelerated pace. Full season at High-A this year, Double-A next season. If he misses some time due to injury, he'll make his Twins debut in 2028 at age 25.
  3. If you add up these odds it puts the over/under at adding 4.5 players to the roster. I will take the under on that. They're not going to fill the roster with Double-A players when they have so many needs at the MLB level. With the exception of Raya, divide all those numbers by two (or more).
  4. I will go with just Raya. The Rule 5 draft is overhyped every year. Almost nobody gets picked and out of the players who get picked its mostly relief pitchers who are kept. Almost every team has their own marginal prospects like Rosario and Olivar. Additionally, many teams have someone who is out of options that they want to keep on the MLB roster. With the expanded playoffs almost everyone is trying to contend. There is no room on an MLB roster for a position player who can't play when you only have a 3-man bench. The Twins made their position player moves in September when they added Helman and Keirsey. Looking around the league the focus is on Boston, who has a full 40-man roster. They signed Michael Fulmer to a 2-year minor league contract last season while he rehabbed from ligament replacement surgery and now they don't even have room to add him to the roster. I wouldn't be surprised to see Boston make a couple trades today.
  5. I would rather keep Willi Castro at $6M than give Josh Bell $7M. Castro out-hit Bell both of the last two seasons and Castro can actually play infield. Josh Bell is a downgrade on Miranda at 1B. Your roster still needs an outfielder and a second baseman.
  6. I think the Twins should buy out Jeffers' arbitration years with a 3 year contract and 4th year option.
  7. Not just the Padres and Royals - every team in baseball besides Oakland. Oakland only gave him a shot because they didn't have any better options than what everyone thought Rooker was at that time. Absolutely nobody thought Rooker would have a season like the one he just had, including Oakland. If you want to feel smarter than everyone else, go ahead. If you really feel confident you should be putting some money on your predictions. Is TwinsDaily going to write a hundred articles mad at the Twins because they didn't add Adolis Garcia when he was available to any team in baseball? That's just as big of a miss but people (especially on this website) seem to focus much more on the players in the organization than the players outside of the organization. Loss aversion is real.
  8. If they keep Rooker then maybe they don't have room to add Willi Castro. Maybe Larnach gets cut instead. There are ripple effects. and you're always balancing winning now with winning later.
  9. Brent Headrick, Travis Adams, Christian MacLeod. They need to send Dobnak down to Double-A to give these guys innings.
  10. Randy Dobnak and Cole Irvin were both available on waivers last season. Dasan Hill has a lot more upside than "an up and down arm". If the ceiling is "barely a major leaguer" then the floor doesn't matter.
  11. What does he need to work on to be successful? Location. He's a junkball pitcher so he needs to be able to pitch strikes while avoiding the middle of the strike zone. I don't know how that translates into being a top 10 prospect. That's freely available on the waiver wire.
  12. That is the key, though I don't ever expect Jax to go 7 innings. If he moves to the rotation, he will be a 5-inning pitcher for the first season.
  13. If Jax moves to the rotation you have Duran, Alcala, Sands, Stewart/Topa (you'll get a half season out of each) Mike Tonkin Ronny Henriquez (he's out of options so they'll keep him all season) Two slots for unproven rookies and pitchers other teams didn't want.
  14. The key for 2025 is how much better he is than rookie Festa or sophomore Woods-Richardson. If Jax can provide as much value in the rotation as he did in the bullpen AND either of those pitchers would provide 0 WAR, then it's a good move. If Festa and Woods-Richardson would be fine in the 4-5 slots OR Jax can't pitch to a 4.20 RA9 (or better) in the rotation, then it's going to be a downgrade for the team in the short term. In the long-term, if they can convert Jax to a decent starter they can trade him off for a much bigger haul at the trade deadline or next offseason.
  15. Winder had shoulder injuries and struggled to pitch as well out of the stretch as he did with a windup. He was terrible at holding baserunners. Severino has a decent enough bat, but his glove limited him to 1B/DH. If he could play 3B or 2B he'd still be in the system.
  16. Pitchers who should be top 30 prospects who you haven't mentioned yet Charlee Soto, Andrew Morris, Marco Raya, Adrian Bohorquez, Cory Lewis, Travis Adams Players in the top 10 you haven't mentioned yet: Emmanuel Rodriguez, Walker Jenkins, Luke Keaschall, Kaelen Culpepper. Looks like Bohorquez got overlooked.
  17. Bad defense and baserunning really limits his upside. He's going to need to hit like Josh Willingham.
  18. Last time we saw Canterino he was walking nearly 6 batters per 9 innings in Double-A. He's never pitched in AAA. I would recommend he start there to pitch with the automated strike zone.
  19. Even if a pitcher profiles as a reliever long-term I want him starting in the minors to get more innings. Maybe they only go 3 innings per start (like Raya) for 90-100 innings a year. That's more than the 60 innings they would get as a minor league reliever.
  20. It totally changes the location on your breaking ball if you throw it 2 MPH faster. It takes repetitions to refine command.
  21. I am ready to cut bait on Canterino and acquire a pitcher who can actually play baseball. Before people pencil in Varland for two-inning stints they should make sure he can pitch effectively in a one-inning role. I'm fine with letting Prielipp begin the season in the minors as a starter. He's not going directly to MLB. If he's doing well in Double-A, then I would have no problem moving him to the major league bullpen for the last half of the season.
  22. Correa is the short and medium-term SS for the Twins. Long-term isn't usually worth planning for in baseball except "acquire as much young talent as you can".
  23. I think he might return more at the deadline. His positional flexibility means just about every contender would have a spot for him on their roster. Half his salary will be paid down so he will fit into every team's budget. It has been a seller's market the past few trade deadlines. That's not a big gap and Castro's speed closes that gap. There isn't anyone on the Twins 40-man roster with his mix of speed and defense. Brooks Lee is versatile but slow. Austin Martin has speed but can't field. You can piece together his contribution from 6 different players but that would take up 6 roster spots which means you can't actually replace him in aggregate. I would be open to trading Castro but I would want more than the Twins got for Polanco. He's a better player and costs half as much.
  24. Would you say no to Jax to Boston for Teel?
