I'd be fine if they used that money to improve the team's catching situation.

Yes, I was pretty certain the writers were going to make another mistake in Hall of Fame voting.

There are potentially catastrophic consequences of keeping Christian Vazquez. 80 games of replacement level performance might be enough to make the team miss the playoffs.

MLB hasn't created a press release with that information in it. For some reason. The only precedent we have is that the Padres put games on cable without requiring a separate subscription. This would be a fantastic question for a member of the press to ask the Twins because we clearly do NOT know "everything we need to know about the new Twins TV setup in 2025".

There is this thing called waivers where other teams release players who are no longer a fit for their roster. If Vazquez is no longer a Twin the team can claim one of those players on waivers to take his spot. Teams are also allowed to trade players with other teams. If Vazquez is no longer a Twin they can arrange a trade for a catcher on another team's AAA roster who they don't value as highly.

The betting on baseball games was an obvious mistake with a penalty that is known to every single player - lifetime ban. You can't say "It's okay to bet on baseball games if you're a really good player, you should only get penalized if you're not very good".

Wagner is an obvious mistake. He's the 5th best pitcher on the ballot.

That isn't how MLB negotiated it with any other MLB team's rights they controlled. Why would they do that for the Twins?

I can't find any information that the cable providers charged extra for Padres games last year. From what I can tell, MLB negotiated directly with the cable providers to add the channel for all of their subscribers. Do you have a source for your information? The Twins are way better off getting $0.50/month per cable subscriber than they would be if they charged $15/month extra for an a-la-carte channel.

There is only change for the better in that scenario. If they have cable, they can still channel surf until they find the Twins. Now they'll actually find the Twins game instead of seeing a notice that Twins games are blacked out in their area due to a contract dispute. People who use cable will have Twins games. People who use a satellite dish (many rural folks) will have Twins games. They won't have to subscribe to a streaming package to get Twins games. It's only the cord-cutters who have to add a subscription.

I am not sure how to remedy this. If they're that poor they're probably not able to pay for internet access or satellite TV. They're also really unlikely to attend a game. I'm fine if the Twins decide to leave people without any disposable income out of their business plans.

Counterpoint - there is nothing to do in those rural areas and 60 cents per Twins game on TV is a pretty good entertainment value. Most of those areas have limited internet speeds so having the games back on satellite TV will be a huge win. I hope we see some bundling of the streaming package with discounted game tickets. Example: Buy the streaming bundle and you get $5 off per ticket up to 4 tickets.

My in-laws haven't had Twins games on Dish Network for 5 years. They're excited to be able to watch the Twins again.

Part of the problem here is it wasn't being included in most cable services. Most cable services (including Comcast) were dropping the team's regional sports network. Now people with cable and satellite will have access to Twins games again. People without cable will have access to Twins games through streaming. People in Iowa will have access to Twins games. It's a huge improvement.

People need to get over the idea that starting pitchers are "resting" between starts like they're taking a 4 day nap. If they weren't working out on off days their muscles would atrophy and you would see performance slip as the season goes on. Ask a person training for a marathon if their training plan is to run once every 5 days and sit on the couch the other 4 days.

This would be an interesting way to tank the season. I don't understand the need for a rotation. If you want to trade Jeffers and go with bad catchers for the season there's no advantage of using 3 bad catchers instead of using just two bad catchers and using the other roster spot for something useful. Carrying 3 bad catchers in a rotation kills the catching position AND your positional depth elsewhere. It's like the old joke where first prize is a weekend vacation in Fargo and second prize is a week-long vacation in Fargo.
