    Red Sox are 3-7 in their last 10. Cleveland is 4-6 in their last 10, and KC is 5-5 in their last 10. The Twins still hold a 4 game lead on the Sox, and are still 3.5 back on Cleveland.

    There’s 29 games rest of season, if he starts 25 of them and his K, BB and HPB numbers stay the same (getting HBP 6 more times would be insane) that would be 100 plate appearances 37 Ks, 11bbs, 5 hpb, 2 hr and go 8 hits for 19 (36 for opportunities to maintain .418 BABIP. If he goes. 0 for 19, he ends the season with .326 BABIP.     Agreed, and while regression to the mean will catch up to him, likely not all at once. There’s 5 weeks left of the season. He may not end the season at .418 BABIP, but he likely won’t end it at .300 BABIP either.

    I agree, and to expand on this, if 5 were accurate, the FO would have invested significant development resources into solidifying the lower leverage arms. Varland would have been in the bullpen from opening day, and CJ Culpeper (or another lefty starter) would be taking Thielbar’s place on Aug 1 or sooner. instead relievers are viewed as fungible, which has some Merit until…

    Sorry, starting pitching innings thing is my kryptonite. Since 2019, the Twins’ starting pitching has thrown 4,350 innings ranking 12 of 30. 2023 Twins starters were ranked 4th in innings pitched. This year they’re ranked 12th. Since 2019 they rank 12th in FIP, 2023 they ranked 3rd in FIP, 2022 they were 27th in innings pitched and 24th in FIP. Rocco lets the starters pitch when they’re good and yanks them when they’re not. dont over think it

    1) who that money is spent on is theoretically the responsibility of the front office. The owners give the budget and approve large expenditure 2) tap water isn’t “free”. If you live in a city, you pay city water bill, if you live rurally you own a well. It is cheap, but many cities subsidize the resident drinking water price with business water prices, ie car washes and stadiums pay a lot for their water so the residents pay a smaller proportion of the total water bill. All this is to say the bill you pay may not be directly related to the cost. Your Brooks Lee shirsey at the ballpark is the same on MLB shop dot com, and you can look at every team’s prices there. Not a lot of difference. 3) unlike football, baseball isn’t salary capped. Spending more doesn’t guarantee anything because there is a surprising amount of parity between mlb teams, but spending helps a lot. This 2019 article had 24 of 25 previous World Series winners had payroll in the top half of the league.
