  1. Do you think the Gyorko signing has raised the bar for a Dozier signing? They have the same amount of service time.........I was hoping for a Dozier extension , if he has a good yr this yr , of 4 yrs/$17.4 mil, with 2 FA option yrs at $9 and $11 mil........now that Gyorko just signed a 5 yr $35 mill extension plus one option yr($13 mil), longer we wait the more expensive Dozier will get.........last yrs stats between Gyorko and Dozier are similar with Gyorko being approx. 2 yrs younger than Dozier
  2. I was just going over what I would do if Dozier had a good yr, and we were on the same wavelength: If he has a good yr this yr, my idea was to extend him with options thru his third FA yr........so my thinking was 1.9(first arb yr); 3.5; 5.0; and the 3 FA yrs team options of 7.0 ; 9.0 and 11.0. That would guarantee him 10.4 mil for 3 yrs, till age 31 and then Twins could decide if they wanted to use options yrs for age 32 thru 34.
  3. Before reading the comments here, I was in the mindset of extending Dozier after this season if last yr was not a fluke.........but I agree with most sentiments now that we should wait.......he is and will never be a superstar, so no need to extend till after 2016 or 17 if he shows he is worthy of a contract that would take away 2 of his free agent yrs.
  4. I agree, with this soooo much, Deduno should be starting........the worst pitching staff cant find a spot for someone with the stuff he has, incredulous!!!!
  5. Great deal for Trout, 2015... $5.25 mil vs $8 to $10 Mil in Arb 2016.....$15.25 mil vs $14 to 16 Mil in Arb 2017.....$19.25 mil vs $18 to $21 Mil in Arb 2018-2020 $33.25 mil vs $35 Mil on open market????? for ten yrs? Then when contract is up he will be 29 and will still get a contract for 10 yrs , at the top market rate, of $40 mill a yr?????? In place of waiting for a contract at age of 26 for 10 yrs at $35 to $40 Mil a yr and trying to get another big contract at age 36 he will get 3 more high paid yrs by signing this contract for this amount of time.......In my opinion no one is going to go for more than 10 yrs and you may see a better chance of teams only going as high as 8 yrs, depending on how these other big multi year contracts pan out.
  6. Seth probably has forgotten more about baseball than what I know, but I follow and love my Twins minor leaguers.......my two bits for what it is worth LOL is Buxton- OH YEA!!!! Polanco and Hicks - I personally say NO, but I hope all prospects do well. Kepler and Walker- Love Walkers power and Kepler looks smooth, I think one or both make it, but will not be star players. Harrison-for some reason is my favorite minor leaguer , well other than Buxton lol Goodrum- I don't see him making it to or past AA. JD Williams, Lance Ray, Stuart Turner- Know to little about these guys to make a semi educated guess. At Ft Myers, I really like Melotakis and Gilbert to make a splash at the big league level at some point. (not this yr)
  7. It is nice to see others thinking the same way as myself..........I am still high on Hicks. He will be better than Revere and Span in the long run, I also eventually( in 2 or 3 yrs) see him hitting 20 plus HR's a season along with a .260-.275 avg and well above avg defense.
  8. But remember almost all the other teams are better, so that being said, they must have better players to release or DFA that players that made our BAD team........I love the Twins, but I also am worried about another poor yr, and not just poor, but offensively unable to watch, and I normally catch about 100 games on tv and another 4 or 5 in person. Please tell me I will be wrong
  9. I would take both players, their past is definitely better than what our present is........and 24, they should still have some upside potential. But this is the Twins, they seldom step outside there comfort zone, unless absolutely needed, and in their minds, it is not needed.
  10. Terry Ryan will talk and talk and talk, but wont pay to win..........I hate todays salaries, but if the team is making millions, and don't want to give the attendees a price break, I want them to spend the money they make into TRYING to help them win, I have always like TR but now am tiring of him, probably for me, cuz he decided to retain the good old boy , Gardy.........I will cheer for the Twins but wont be going to many more games till they show they are willing to TRY to win and not just make money.
  11. Cleveland, Baltimore and Tampa all made managerial changes that brought about a new attitude. Starts with ownership and a GM with ba--s
  12. Has Colabello emerged???!!!! I guess if a 28+ yr old , hitting .190 is emerging, I guess I don't mind it either!!!!
  13. Well darin617, I will be saying the same thing if they don't do something once these 2 guys make it to the big leagues, and you may be right about only wanting to make money. And I do think these guys would take a 8 yr contract out of the shoot, as they both would be in there prime when contract runs out(28-29yrs old) and be in line for a mega contract in the 10 yr $350 million deal if they are as good as advertised...........Now what supfin99 proposes (12 yr contract) wouldn't fly, IMO.
  14. As much as I would like to Twins to try this route, it wont happen, if they didn't do longer term for Mauer(and maybe that is how Mauer wanted it), they wont do it for a none homegrown talent, even if it is off the charts. But we can dream, and if they were to only do it for one, I also would be more inclined to do it for Buxton than Sano..........in this day of high dollar signings as draftees and Dominican FA's not as much incentive to sign team friendly deals, cuz they are close to set already without having give to friendly of deal discounts for there home team.
  15. If I was Sano's agent, I would take a contract similar to this, but with with either less option yrs, or the option yrs starting 2 yrs sooner. So I will breakdown, my counterproposal(if I were Sano's agent) LOL Signing bonus $3 mill 1: $500,000 2: $750,000 3: $1.5 mill 4: $4.0 mill 5: $6.0 mill 6: $8.0 mill 7: $15.0 mill(team option) 8: $18.0 mill(team option) This guarantees ONLY(lol) $23.75 mill, and if Twins like him, after the 2 option yrs $56.75 million, so they can still have him for 8 yrs. In your scenario(I don't dislike it) but if he was or is a bust, you are guaranteeing $40 million. I like the discussion. I think it would be a win win, Twins guarantee 8 yrs if they like what they see, and only out 23.75 mill, compared to 40 mill if he doesn't pan out. And for Sano, he is still guaranteed life altering money, but still will be young enough(28) when contract over for his once in a lifetime contract if he is what he could be. Going to Dodgers for 10 yrs $350 mill, lol. Remember I wrote here first, lol, come back in 10 yrs see if I am right
  16. Anyone have interest in Tim Beckham , who was a #1 pick of the Rays in 2008, has the arm , just might be short on range, but still has the chance to provide power as a shortstop and is only 23, still has a chance to be very good IMO. Not sure what Rays plans are for him as they have Lee as a higher ranked shortstop prospect.
  17. I would rather play a doubleheader in one day and get a day off here and there than play 30 or 40 straight days, I think they should have more doubleheaders during season and more days off(preferable back to back doubleheaders, not day night, that part defeats the purpose.)
  18. Yea, he will get it back just in time for him to be to expensive for the Twins to sign. With that said, what would people be willing to extend to Morneau to keep him past this year, not knowing if he will get back near where we hope he will be. Do you expect him to be a 25 HR 100 RBI guy again? If we do keep him, I would try the 2 or 3 yr $10 million a yr contract , see if he would take it. I know this should probably go on another thread, if anyone wants to start one, and maybe someone already has one.
  19. I will throw my hat in also, with explanations, Gibson , will be a#2 or most likely a #3; Meyer, barring injury has a good shot at being a #2; May is probably a #4 or reliever longterm(nothing wrong with being a 4, especially compared to the #5 and #6's we have now. Berrios, just my opinion will not make it to the bigs, as a starter, he is great in the lower minors because he is advanced for his age, but not a lot of projection, as I heard someone else say, he is what he is. This years crop of pitchers I havnt formed an opinion yet, but looks promising, but then don't all new high draftees look promising.
  20. Personally I love the idea, and about team control, if any of the studs show promise early lock them up with contracts that take 1 to 3 yrs of there Free Agent yrs, and even if you bring them all up at the same time, then they wont all be free agents at the same time, and not all of them will pan out. If we suck for another year or two of the young guys playing, it will only help to keep our Minors loaded or stocked with new up and coming studs.
  21. Didn't Albers just pitch? Wouldn't they bring up someone else till it is his turn in the rotation, pitcher or postion player, just a thought. They always seem to be clamoring that the relief pitchers are putting in to many innings.
  22. I was at the Cedar Rapids game on Saturday night, and Kepler looks very athletic and agile, he played a great game at first base. Not sure how much bigger he will get, not sure what it is but he reminds me of Joe Mauer, hopefully with more power. I don't know if he is projected to be a high average guy, but love the swing and on this night loved the athleticism and agility he displayed. He looked natural at first base.
  23. It is exciting to follow the Kernals, even after Buxton left. I was so excited, I even made a road trip in April from Minot ND(12 hr drive) to watch my first Minor league game and to see Buxton, but I also enjoyed watching Harrison, and Walker play, didn't get to appreciate or notice how well Polanco is playing. Memorial stadium is a wonderful place to watch a ballgame, I enjoyed my time there and actually met some wonderful people from the great city of Cedar Rapids, I will make it back there again someday, maybe even before this year is over. Go TWINS!!!!!
  24. My two bits, I say Meyer will be in, so only 3 Twins prospects, Rosario being a 2nd basemen, they don't get rated as high usually, hurts him, and I think the top 3 picks in the draft make top 50, but Stewart and the next few picks are really interchangeable as far as where they could have been drafted, so I don't think anyone after the top 3 make it, will see tomorrow
  25. Really!!!??? We are going to send down Arcia and Parmalee instead of giving them everyday jobs for he rest of the year, to see if they can make adjustments? I don't see the value in sending them down in another lost year. As far as Escobar goes, he is a utility guy anyways as is Floriman , in my opinion , so why not give a taste to Santana , instead of a 33 yr old minor leaguer that you have no plans for. Im just lost on this. In my opinion, if we give up on Parmalee, he will be good for someone, can see the talent there.
