  1. Good article Jeremy. I really didn't care for taking a bunch of relievers in the 2012 draft, but those who rank drafts had no problem with in it. I'm more comfortable with everyone's a starter until they prove they're not and those who remain starters the longest are your best prospects. It seems to me most arm problems occur in the first year or so of pro ball and that's why I like Ryan's philosophy of trading for those with 1-2+ years of pro ball. Pitching with always be a numbers game.
  2. Agree with you on Correia. I would trade any and all members of the bullpen for starting pitching prospects. So much of the future depends on accumulating pure numbers, and I don't see another opportunity until the 2014 draft. I sense the price for Perkins is rising almost daily and would be very happy with 2 starting pitching prospects in return. If not, wouldn't mind keeping a Gopher.
  3. At this point in time, it's very unlikely they can get Whitey Ford or Warren Spahn. If they can get a major league ready starter, that they feel will be part of the core going forward, I'm all in.
  4. Maybe they have a good chance to get what they want right now? Right now is usually quite popular on this board. Prospects now, money later.
  5. Completely agree with you, but if any team is desperate for prospects it's Houston. If we can deal multiple prospects, without giving up muscle, I'd talk. Their farm system has taken a leap, but when you pass on Buxton and make the deal they made, you know they are looking further down the road.
  6. I think he would look good in a Twins uniform. Last time I looked even a non-ace might able to squeeze himself into our rotation. Jeremy, I think bringing up your fantasy team maybe a conflict of interest.
  7. There are 3 kinds of people in the world. Those who are good at math and those who aren't.
  8. Thank you for your thoughtful analysis. Put me in the group that thinks the minute they put their jocks on and walked on to Target Field the Twins became a better team.
  9. Ryan would agree with you himself, but there's no need to take the ball and go home. Rebuilding is a process and mistakes are made. He's working on it as we speak, he'll be working on it this winter, and he'll be working on it in the June draft. Our job is to argue over his day by day progress ad nauseam.
  10. The year is far from over but I would say 4. Hicks, Pressly, Arcia, and Gibson.
  11. Good post Brock. Let me add one thought. The Royals made 1 premature move. It appeared to all of baseball, Kansas City was finally about to successfully complete a long rebuild and they made 1 premature move. Terry Ryan's goal is to avoid a long rebuild and it can certainly be difficult to understand stand each and every move he makes. But Ryan has a plan in place, which is roughly familiar to all of us as the Twins Way, and he will follow that plan until our Twins are ready to dominate the Central again. His goal is not to play meaningful games this September. His goal is to play meaningful games every September.
  12. Agree, it's time.
  13. Completely agree. I'm guessing Twins Fans are going to start learning about Longoria contracts in the not too distant future.
  14. That's correct. But telling teams, you will pick up all remaining payroll for all players as the OP suggested is. In fact it's silly.
  15. I'm not saying that's not cool, but how does it relate to baseball?
  16. Why show all your cards? This isn't Ryan's first rodeo. Down to our last 11 days, no need to panic.
  17. I agree. IMHO some of the detractors frustration has evolved to the point where they no longer care if the money is used to improve the Twins, as long as it doesn't go to the Pohlads.
  18. Seth, let's make some assumptions. Buxton, Sano, Rosario, Meyer and May make it to Target Field sometime in 2014 and are no longer eligible for prospect status. The 2014 draft is roughly equal to the 2013 draft. Taking a WAG, do you feel our farm system would still rank in the 5-10 area?
  19. Better chance of the Twins going undefeated than the Pohlads firing Terry Ryan.
  20. I think the same thing could be said for most organizations, in most professional sports. Once Gonzalez is signed and the full story comes out in the national media, I wonder if Twins fans will even recognize him as the same player Reusse wrote about. IMO the signing of Gonzalez is far from the slam dunk Reusse presents it to be.
  21. Could you point out my exact words where I criticized him for wanting to excape poverty? Are you making a death defying leap here? Why did you omit he hasn't pitched in 2 years when you calculated the 95% of all pitchers on the planet?
  22. I would think it's customary to take credit for him at least as long as the national media is gushing over him. To take a shot at a proven number 1 starter is indeed rare. To take a shot at someone that is projected to be a number 1 starter, not nearly so. Very likely the Twins do not project him as highly as others. The recent draft clearly shows the Twins are taking chances to get pitching. Edit: He was suspended in Cuba for attempting to escape. Hasn't officially pitched in 2 years, except for exhibitions in Mexico. Has had arm problems. Doesn't project as a 1 starter. Price is probably closer to 60M for 5 years, with an all out bidding war expected between the Dodgers, Red Sox, and Cubs. Pat probably felt the average Twins fan wouldn't be able to make the right determination with this type of detail.
  23. No team in baseball averages 4 to 5 every year. Believe 2 is the number BA cited also as a successful draft.
