  1. I had the same thought. If we are lucky enough to develop 4 quality outfielders, do we deal one for a starting pitcher? Next year, I'm hoping to draft a SS with some pop. If not, another poster mentioned the Cardinals have had success with college starters with high floors and lower ceilings, because they make it to the show relatively quickly. With where we will probably be drafting the next 2 years that should be no problem.
  2. Completely agree, hence my hope we can get at least one starting pitching prospect for Perkins. Ryan's job of accumulating top starting pitching prospects has really just started. I like where we are on position players, but feel we need another 5-6 starting prospects.
  3. I'm not sure why anyone would think it's going to stay the same. Looks to me they are working pretty hard to develop their own starting pitchers. Rebuilding is a 4 letter word on all fan boards, but unfortunately it's a necessary evil. Unlike most organizations, we have a GM who's been there and done that. You really should read what some of the national experts are saying and take heart from their kind words.
  4. The Twins aren't going to change how they do business. I believe I'm on safe ground by predicting they won't bring any top tier starting pitchers to Target Field. The next 2 long term contracts are probably being reserved for Buxton and Sano.
  5. At least you gave him 2 games. You have to admit Thielbar looks like a Cy Young candidate though.
  6. I wouldn't doubt he's playing hard to get. Plenty of time. Can't see him passing up a SS of the future, or major league ready starter, or even several top starting pitching prospects. If our top scouts aren't already out, they must at least be on stand-by IMHO.
  7. I just read where our farm system is doing pretty well and that Buxton guy may end up being a pretty good player. Seems to me the evidence is accumulating that Terry Ryan knows what he's doing.
  8. Good job John. Doesn't appear to be a good fit.
  9. Interesting. I think Mackey's lineup maybe relatively close. Indirectly it highlights the continued need to stockpile starting pitching prospects. It appears our future position players are already in the pipeline. A SS with some pop would look good with our #1 pick next draft.
  10. Personally, I think there would still be complaints about ownership if Mother Teresa owned the Twins.
  11. That's not what happened at all. But I'm not interested enough to argue about it. I come here to talk baseball and this isn't baseball.
  12. We should all become White Sox fans.
  13. Maybe on their board he was. Twins had Stewart at #2.
  14. Our first pick in next year's draft should be a SS if at all possible.
  15. IMO we are no where near that point. Perkins is our best trade chip, and it makes no sense not to see what we can get when we are obviously in a rebuilding mode. Take out Buxton and Sano, and our farm system is still better than most, but there would be no way to predict when or even if the rebuilding would ever end. Ryan knows he's not done dealing.
  16. Those weren't 3 second round picks at best. Take another hard look at those 3.
  17. If we trade Perkins we can get everything I wanted at the deadline. Morneau to me is a win-win. If he stays he gives us offensive this year. If he goes it means we got a lot. The Hammer's value is as low as it's going to go and we can trade him anytime in the next year when it's higher. As long as Arcia and then Hicks are not blocked, and they won't be, Hammer can't block anyone I see as part of our core moving forward. I wouldn't include what's best for Parmelee in my calculations.
  18. I hope you're right and I've read several of your articles, so I know you watch things much more closely than I do. That said, I find it hard to get excited about starting pitching prospects in the lower minors. I much prefer Ryan's approach of getting prospects with one or two+ years of experience from our friendly competitors.
  19. IMO the next milestone in the rebuilding process, is Meyer and/or May making it to Target Field. It does underscore the need for Ryan to continue to accumulate top starting pitching prospects. I would be very surprised if Perkins doesn't net us the next one.
  20. I would have made the trade and still would. Hard to lose on a 7 or 8 for 1 trade even if you're trading Willie Mays.
  21. I forget which one, Savage or Drummond. Him and his father won the lottery, I believe in Kentucky, and he left baseball shortly thereafter.
  22. I think that's very true and has been for some time. If you have a 3B you can live with, you stick with him. IMO Plouffe is not part of the core going forward.
  23. I'm not suggesting you're wrong, but I would continue the pitching heavy drafts. IMO the only thing that can derail the rebuilding process is the lack of quality starting pitching prospects. I would stay the course.
  24. Does it really matter? I think it's great Gardy gave him time before throwing him to the wolves, much like Pressly and other relievers over the years. I can't really get concerned about how we use our 12-13th reliever. How soon we can contend again will be determined by looking in a different direction. Gibson is up, who is the next to claim their spot in the rotation, Meyer or May, and when?
