  1. I agree with you. Versatile 3B with power, what's not to like?
  2. The Cubbies are an excellent example on how not to do it. Those who barrage this board on the necessity of being the darlings of the FA market need only study the lovable losers.
  3. IMO one could even speculate they once again changed their 5 year plan after 3 years.
  4. We have a better chance with the petition.
  5. I think the thing you learn is how difficult it is to be a GM. At the time of the trade, opinions were no worse than evenly split. There is pressure to produce immediately in Kansas City, which at this point in time we are immune to.
  6. IMO it's a great situation for the Twins to be in. For the Twins to go where they want to go, they need to continuously stockpile top starting pitching prospects. I'm hoping the winning bidder gives us one now and a list of 3 or 4 to chose from later.
  7. I think we still owe him some money from last time.
  8. Good article Nick. I was kind of wondering when someone would bring Kansas City up. I don't remember the details but BA made a big deal of the record number of prospects the Royals had in their top 100 with several in the top 10 several years ago. Like the OP said, prospects are just prospects. If one wants to take a down and dirty look at the Twins future, Buxton, Stewart, and next year's pick, maybe as good of indication as any. Did I remember to say very timely choice for your article?
  9. I just hope this is true. A very good, but nonessential piece, in the hands of one of the best GM's in baseball. Obviously the rebuilding plan is working, but getting lucky is always nice.
  10. Would use our 1st pick in next years draft if at possible. Only black hole I still see for position players. IMO very difficult to trade for a SS of the future, barring us offering one of our few untouchable prospects. Certainly as we get closer to the time where we can compete for the Central, it will be under consideration more and more.
  11. He's part of the future. I would let him pitch thru it.
  12. Birdwatcher, to hold the Twins accountable, I think shaking your finger with your eyebrows raised would suffice.
  13. This is hardly a fact. I've seen nothing that shows any indication that they are buyers and it is a fact several players are being openly shopped. The rebuilding process is a process and will take time. We're in much better shape than we were a year ago, and I've seen no indication this momentum is anywhere near slowing. Also, I know for a fact, the concept of selling high is not foreign to the Twins. I think Brock said it best recently. Posters fall into the trap where they feel they know more than GM's etc. and have the ability to hose said GM's in trades. It's another fact, that no poster has ever done this.
  14. I wouldn't pay anyone to take Morneau. He's still a big part of a small offense. If Parmelee can't beat him out, he doesn't deserve to play 1B. As I've posted before, at some level the Twins are still trying to compete. Parmelee is no rookie, time to make himself indispensable.
  15. I'm not sure what reality management has to accept. There is no one way to rebuild, the entire situation is very fluid, particularly at the trade deadline. Ryan may get lucky, or the deadline maybe just another day at the office. Rebuilding is a multi-year affair. IMO it's very difficult to draw conclusions, player by player or decision by decision.
  16. IMO the handling of Hicks, Arcia, and Pressly all show signs of rebuilding. It's not the Twins way to throw in the towel. At some level they're still trying to field a competitive team. They still have plenty of time to figure how the pieces fit for 2014, and now we get our first look at another piece in Gibson. I'm not saying I understand everything that's going on, but things look a lot better than a year ago.
  17. Good job! Liked how you have our starting pitchers ranked.
  18. One September I remember watching Kinney, Lohse, and Santana all audition back to back. I thought it was great. Wouldn't mind that type of thing again. I remember thinking Kinney would be great and Lohse pretty good. Wasn't sure about Santana.
  19. Never thought of that. I think Sano will come up mid-season next year and be too late to win it. Maybe only 2 out of 3.
  20. Just enough to prove your point would be fine.
