  1. After the Phillies cut their deal by over half, you feel the Twins should have swooped in? This is a player who hasn't played organized ball in over 2 years and now has a major injury concern. Your basic rational is they should do it since they can afford to, which incidentally every other team can also. I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment, if you think the Twins or most teams for that matter, will make this type of deal.
  2. Hendriks,Tonkin, and Pinto are good enough for me. I don't believe Parmelee is being punished, nor did I buy the persistent argument he was being blocked. I wouldn't doubt the next time his name comes up he's DFA.
  3. For what it's worth, Jim Callis said in his Wednesday draft chat, a month before the draft, Stewart would make it to the bigs by 2015. I hope to see Eades up sometime in 2016 and if we take a college starting pitcher in the very deep 2014 draft, I'm guessing the plan would be to have that player available by 2016. Starting pitching is very real concern, and actually the only one I have. If Tanaka passes the close scrutiny of our scouts, I hope we bet the farm. Good post!
  4. Last I looked attendance was averaging 31,000. I friend just offered me his seats in LCF for September. I really enjoy going to Target Field and can't wait to see the auditions the remainder of the season.
  5. The original deal was 6 years for 50M+. Due to elbow concerns, it was revised to 3 years for 12M by the same team. Anyone see any red flags here?
  6. Very unlikely a team with Buxton and Sano on it ever lose 90+ games.
  7. Good job on your first blog! It seems every day the future gets a little bit clearer, but congratulations on taking the first shot.
  8. Nothing a fan board enjoys more than a good firing. Ryan has been back in charge all of 21 months. If you subscribe to the Kansas City or Pittsburgh mode of rebuilding you are quite correct. If you embrace the Twins goal of avoiding a long rebuild, as practiced by Terry Ryan, as many on this board do and seemly more and more of the national media, you will see the wisdom of practicing patience. Early returns have the parade starting in 2015.
  9. Terry Ryan has said many times, he will not spend money for the sake of spending money. The past is not a perfect predictor of the future. The goal is to avoid a long rebuild. Many believe this is what is occurring, both on this board and the national media.
  10. This is correct. Ryan has also said many times, any time he has gone to management with a special request to improve the ball club, management has always agreed to said special request.
  11. I believe he did, he just never won. I wonder how Correia would rank on the list of most valuable pitchers, on a fan boards most hated list.
  12. The clock starting ticking 21 months ago when the perplexed Pohlads, with no where else to turn, convinced a reticent Terry Ryan to come out of semi-retirement and return our beloved Twins to past glories, thereby thrilling millions of loyal Twins fans, most of whom have never posted on a fan board. IMHO the parade starts in 2015.
  13. Gibson and Hicks are locks.
  14. Parmelee has been in the Twins organization since 2006 and has 510 PA in the majors. IMHO the Twins current handling of him is a non-issue, and in no way impacts the Twins goal of avoiding a long rebuild.
  15. I know I never get tired of it. Surely you must be thrilled about such a positive article about your favorite team.
  16. Calm down Ryan will get something for him. Doumit belongs in the bigs and there is no reason to panic. It's not like he's blocking a future All-Star or something.
  17. Very perceptive article. Nice to see Terry Ryan and the rest of the Twins organization receive credit for what many national experts view as a quick turnaround. Best guess is the parade starts in 2015.
  18. Doumit is a better player than Parmelee, Herrman, Colabello, Pinto, Romero, and Escobar. It's their job to take away bats from him and not the other way around. None of the 6 are anyway near solidifying their spot with the Twins in the short or long term. Also, at some level the Twins are still trying to win. Pure and simple, Doumit gives us the best chance to win right now, and we are trying to win right now. There is no one way to rebuild. Every single decision made does not need to reflect the teams rebuilding mode, which is in fact quite fluid.
  19. Completely agree. It really is that simple.
  20. I don't have a clue. I prefer my baseball players American made.
  21. I agree, if there is any doubt at all, Ryan will sign a second FA. Who knows, he may have already decided to. I do know he was personally and professionally embarrassed at what he sent out there this season, and he will do anything this side of 6 years for 147M to fix it.
  22. I wouldn't start patting the lovable losers on the back quite yet. The owner is of the newer variety and hasn't tipped his hand yet. I just found out they have some type of stadium issue also. Give Theo credit for building a strong farm system, but how big a deal is it, signing 4 of the top 30 16 year-old international prospects. What is the likelihood they will be in the top 30 at 18? The top Cuban they signed is in Class A.
  23. Completely agree. My guess is Ryan is looking for stability in the rotation for 2014 and not a whole lot more. In other words, he wants 5 starters who will take the ball every fifth day. Correia and Gibson are locks and I'm hoping September auditions yield a third. Ryan will pick up a second tier FA for the fourth and as a another posted said, a thumb wrestling contest will be held during spring training for the fifth. This could change obviously. Hopefully our scouts find someone they like in Japan or is Cuban etc. But I think 5 stable arms is the floor for 2014.
  24. No lack of talent going to Arizona this year.
