  1. Assuming Tanaka checks out with our scouts, I'm on record for a 50M posting fee without batting an eye for exactly the same reasons abnormal_1 just pointed out. I'm hoping this where we take our shot.
  2. I know I do. When you have a job that millions want but only 30 have, there is never a good time to quit.
  3. We should get back to Tanaka, but I don't believe it's possible for the media to brainwash millions of loyal and knowledgeable Twins fans.
  4. I got in the habit of reading game thread just before I went to bed at one time. Good group of guys and gal. RB should be on television. Not a lot of structure and they seem to go wondering off in different directions at times. It's kind of a boys will be boys type thing.
  5. Good first post! To nit pick, I would substitute Eades for Melotakis, but you pretty much nailed it.
  6. I don't care to, nor will I get into a debate on this. But IMO, it boils down to one question. Did the Twin's Organization ever make any promise which would lead Terry Ryan to believe, he was obligated to spend money for the sake of spending money? I completely agree with your comments on goodwill.
  7. Finally an agreement. If he checks out with our scouts, I would go 50M without batting an eye. If Ryan can pickup same or similar prior to the 2015 season, our starting pitching should be somewhere in the middle. Future improvements will be in place in our farm system by then.
  8. They can do whatever they want to do. This is America. We can choose to be fans, or we can choose not to be. This is not the first time a small minority felt they got a bad deal on a publically funded project. In fact if they did it all over again, I bet the downtown merchants would pickup the full tab.
  9. Mike, what is the magical number the Twins should post? I know you will express some displeasure if the Twins come away empty handed and I was hoping you could provide some guidance on the correct course the Twins should take. Remember, one shot, winner take all.
  10. The Twin's organization has unlimited gold. Ryan has said on numerous occasions anytime he has gone to the Pohlads with a special request to improve the ball club, he has always got their approval. The only thing that constrains Ryan is getting value for the money spent. Those of us who are unfortunate enough to be in an employer-employee relationship can probably relate to this. The baseline of 51%-52% of revenue has gone the way of the dinosaur. The proposed model was never legally binding nor intended to be taken as such. I'm sure Ryan thinks about it as often as he does where Joe Benson happens to be.
  11. If a guy can hit they will find a place for him. Who knows he may catch the second game of doubleheaders or DH. He certainly appears to be no worse than Doumit defensively, who has found a way to stick in the bigs for 9 years. Way too early to assume he will be limited by his defense.
  12. The Twins will compete in 2014, but they won't go for the jugular like Kansas City, by trading Buxton or Sano. If Ryan finds value, no doubt he will spend this off season. Many posters have discussed what Terry Ryan has never done. What millions of loyal Twins fans remember most is, Ryan has never failed at rebuilding the Twins.
  13. I think in the long run you are probably right. At this point in time we do not have an excess of blue chippers. What I can see happening is packaging a major league relief pitcher with a lower level, A+ or AA bat, to get a starting pitching prospect our scouts recommend. I think you're right but at least a year early. Good post.
  14. Ryan isn't going anywhere and the parade starts in 19 months. Do you really believe the Pohlads are going to hire some cowboy who spends like a drunken sailor?
  15. I agree. Tanaka is the prize. I would spent the 90M-110M if he checks out with our scouts.
  16. Many consider the Twins returning to be a proven contender as practically a done deal, the only questions being when, and how far will this rebuild take us. Are we going dominate the Central as we have in the past or with the help of the Gods of Baseball will we win another World Series title? There is every appearance of 2 strong drafts in a row, and we are currently earning another high pick in what is being touted as a deep draft. Our efforts in the International market have given us Arcia, Pinto, and Sano, with every indication that the pipeline will continue. I do believe Ryan will sign a high-profile name, but I don't see any real urgency until the winter of 2014/2015. No doubt they will be continuously looking, as always, between now and then. They will continue to make Butera and Morneau type trades, though far from sexy, will do a great deal towards shaping the team and adding the final pieces. While many may consider The Twin's Way to be extremely risk-adverse, I believe it to be cold, calm, and calculated.
  17. I agree, it's only one man's opinion. Off the top of my head, I believe it's the 4th like article I've read. I'm glad you had a chance to read it. I'm sure you enjoy reading positive articles about our favorite team as much as I do.
  18. Expect more Butera and Morneau type trades. They will be active in the FA market but will not thrill the board with a 6 year, 147M signing.
  19. Completely agree with you. I would add Eades to that group, when he doesn't have an inning restriction etc. Like another poster said, we really helped ourselves with lefties.
  20. Don't exaggerate I think it was only 18. I really never liked the senior circuit but I can't help following Morneau. Based on very flimsy information, it looks like Pittsburgh is a well run organization.
  21. Joe Sheehan of SI wrote an article saying we will be the next Pirates. The parade starts on 2015.
  22. Rebuilding is indeed a terrible thing. I'll go to my usual 15-20 games this year, because I've never found anything better than going to a MLB game. Gophers come close second.
  23. It's a problem if the parade doesn't start in 2015, and to borrow a line from Chief, if we don't have the last draft pick in the first round of the 2018 draft.
  24. Texas posted 52M to get Darvish. The Yankees had the 2nd highest bid at 15M. What's the magical number for Tanaka? I'm not saying we don't have the money, because we do if he passes close inspection. What is the magical number, because we only get one shot. At minimum the Yankees and Red Sox will be returning all their pop bottles to build their war chest.
  25. The Twins are going to be successful whether they sign Tanaka or not, that was decided when Houston passed on Buxton. I'm sorry, I'm just not the type who easily panics.
