  1. When I think of Terry Ryan, the only TV show that comes to mind is Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
  2. To me the most important number is he made it to Target Field at 22. I see 25 HR's and .280 BA. Also, I have no doubt he will be no worse that average defensively. I've read 2 or 3 scouting reports and there is no hint he's Hammerlike.
  3. But they were not blunders. Hunter, Morneau, and Cuddyer all had missteps when they first came to the bigs. I for one have no problem, when one of our top prospects has absolutely no one in front of them, and our FO takes a calculated risk. Hicks and for that matter Gibson and Arcia, are just that much more ready when their next shot comes.
  4. Good first post! I believe your estimates and targets are very close. The only thing I would add is, I've looked everywhere and I don't see where we are targeting Abreu. Once again, good job.
  5. As you know we have a 3B on the way to Target Field, that Seth mentioned at one time, is a better fielder than Plouffe. To me it's too early to determine if we will need a right-handed bat coming off the bench. I'm hoping for a Butera type return when the time comes for him to be traded.
  6. I've lost patience with a player in the organization since 2004, with almost 1200 PA's, whose never given any indication that he is a core player. I believe he will be one of the later casualties of the rebuilding process, and gone prior to opening day 2015.
  7. One of the major complaints of most fans is prospects are moved too slowly. I thought it was great they threw caution to the wind and gave him a chance. Hicks and not incidentally Gibson, have merely used up one of their nine lives. Nothing has been permanently decided. For what it's worth, BA predicted Hicks would be the opening day centerfielder in 2012.
  8. They did make a conscious effort to bring in more power arms 2 drafts ago. The emphasis in International signings is power bats and power arms. For those keeping score at home, let me suggest a hypothetical. It's not too much of a stretch to think the Twins will attempt to bring in 2 starters better than anyone we currently have this winter. If we then take 2 college starters with our first 2 picks in the very deep 2014 draft, we will have positioned ourselves for the parade. It would leave us the 2014 trade deadline and winter of 2014/2015 to fine tune and account for wastage. We have 19 months to get it done.
  9. In the big picture of things I really don't care if Gardy comes back or not. My only concern is the Twins start winning again while I'm still young and good looking. I believe the decision has already been made and what happens between now and the end of the season, really only impacts the individual players, as it should.
  10. I would wait for the position player cavalry to arrive in 2014 and spend most of our gold on 2 starting pitchers better than anything we currently have. That said, if the right SS falls our way, such as Castro of the lovable losers, it would be hard to turn down.
  11. How many on this team are you projecting to be on the opening day roster in 2015? It's no secret we are holding open auditions, hoping to find a diamond in the rough or a Diamond/Pelfrey/Albers to show where they belong in the pecking order, if at all. At absolute worst they are experiencing a temporary leadership void due to the M & M boys being unavailable.
  12. I can't see Joe ever giving up catching. He is too stubborn. When we make our move, I believe Parmelee and Colabello will be long gone. I have no problem with Justin coming back on a team friendly deal. I understand RBI's no longer have any meaning, but you still need a guy who hits the ball that causes his teammates to cross the plate. There is no metric for veteran leadership. Good blog Oldgoat_MN.
  13. The Hammer finally picked up his first error this season. Does anyone else think he would be in the running for a Gold Glove except for sabermetrics?
  14. I didn't miss anything. I responded to a specific question posed by the OP as I'm privileged to do as a Senior Member Triple-A. There was no hint he was questioning somebodies guts.
  15. You're aware Pinto, Arcia, and Sano are International signings right? Sano is 20, so if you're asking about 19, 18, and 17 year-olds there is some really good information on the board. IMHO things look just fine.
  16. I think the Pohlads are good owners, because they rarely get involved. Do we really want to add meddlesome owners to the equation? Ryan has been back all of 22 months, some of the pieces are in place, and now ownership has said they intend to use the checkbook this winter. I'm trying hard to find the downside in all this.
  17. I believe you and Shane both outline sound strategies the Twins will use. To help fix the black hole in the near future we would need to spend our top prospects. I think the board is correct that we should wait a year to consider dealing Rosario or Dozier, yet acknowledge neither is untouchable. The mix-n-match approach will build organizational depth in starting pitching so we don't have to relive the nightmare. Both are very good ways to use the new found strength of our top rated farm system.
  18. I may be wrong but I don't believe Abreu is a target of the Twins. I haven't seen his name linked with ours. I think Doogie Wolfson tweeted we thought he was overrated. Looks like the Giants are going all out. Once again, I am only guessing.
  19. Castro is 23, with 6 years plus a club option for roughly 58M. I have no idea what it would take, but I think we should consider pursuing it. King Theo vs. Ryan would be worthy of pay for view.
  20. I have no idea what Theo would want besides the world, but I agree we should take a shot at Castro.
  21. We got a legitimate starting pitching prospect for Butera.
  22. Shane, as a rule of thumb, whoever gets the best player wins. Neither of those two will be anywhere close to the starting pitcher we need. If we could add one of those two to The Hammer or Doumit deals I think that might work. I believe we will have an excess of relief pitchers in the near future. I could see adding one of those two in a Fien or Burton trade for a starting pitching prospect.
  23. I don't believe millions of loyal and knowledgeable Twins fans were insulted. This was your average everyday interview and a confession was neither expected nor necessary. Most of us are quite familiar with coachspeak.
  24. I would not put Rosario on our untouchable list. If we can find a major league ready starting pitcher who will make it to Target Field in 2014 I would pull the trigger. It takes quality to get quality. If we can trade Rosario to help fill the black hole, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  25. Always. I have complete faith in our scouts. I fully understand they are human and will make mistakes. If they say go, I would break the bank. If they decide this isn't the one, then we go on to the next one. As a side note, I read where we spotted Buxton 3 years prior to drafting him. I also read we saw every pitch Stewart made for the past 2 years. If Jim Callis comes to TD to visit, we should drag it out of him which SS we covet.
