  1. I enjoy seeing outside opinions. Seth, you are the source for what I know about the young players and I really appreciate your insights, but its good when we see your thoughts backed up by these national and hopefully impartial rankings. It helps me to see the big picture. But one thing rankings do not do is give me a real sense of MLB potential. I know these are the best of what we have, but how far down the list do we go with real star potential and front line potential? From what I have read of the reports this year I am not sure I see a real potential for the major league team in the last five, although they could be role players. What do you think?
  2. Is this what we have been waiting for? Did I miss something. Was our hitting worse than our pitching? How long have our new leaders been planning this big upheavel? What an exciting development!
  3. stick with the minor leaguers, trade the perceived excess and move on. Nothing here but players who will get in the way in the future.
  4. Not excited by Holland. If we are going to put a no upside starter in the rotation lets roll with a young guy already in the system or many of them. With Holland in the rotation we would still have a good shot at 90 losses. If we do not get a true 1 or 2 don't bother.
  5. My concern is that the attendance is in the tank and will drop off the cliff unless there is some excitement generated. The casual drop in fan is not going to pay the bills anymore. I understand Mauer still has name recognition, but maybe they can just have some Mauer Chevrolet sales after the game because Mauer on first is at best a filler. He is not going to cause us to lose, but he is not going to push us to win.
  6. I find it interesting that we are looking to a new FO to come in and institute change, to shake up the system, but then we think that Mauer is locked in at first - how about a bench spot? We still can't figure out Plouffe and Dozier or Polanco and Sano. Rosario seems to be locked in to the OF, but why? Lets throw out the ideas and story lines we had in 2016. What if the new front office really does come in and make things different? Might be nice.
  7. These are always interesting profiles and I like the insight, but like most fans I have no idea if these men are good or not and can only applaud the change and potential.
  8. It is not who they called up, it is who they did not call up. It is using suzuki at DH instead of a young player with potential. It is starting mediocre vets instead of stretching out some young and future arms. September for a loser like the Twins is about looking for the future, but what we saw was an attempt to not lose 104 games. We lost more than games, we lost opportunities.
  9. I remember all our anxiety as we waited for Gibson to come up - a homegrown, drafted talent, but in all the years he has been up, including his highlight year, he has been a disappointment. I expect we will keep him, but like Santiago he should be shoved to the side when some younger prospect appears ready. For the most part I am in favor of keeping the younger players. Hopefully we will have new leadership teach the team how to bring the young players up and succeed. But I do not want to see more clog the system signings. It seems like we are always waiting for a contract to run out so we can move on.
  10. I agree and I think he has done in despite the Twins coaching. In fact, he stepped in to try and coach Berrios and I take that as a sign that he did not trust the coaches either - just like Blyleven.
  11. Interesting list. I recognize names more here as would be expected, but only Vielma seems like a real prospect for more than a bench role. Of course this team has Logan Schafer on the MLB roster so who knows. Am I missing the real upside? It will be interesting to see how many of the top 51 will be in the MLB top 100 - will we have any this year? I look forward to the top 25 and hope to find more to be excited about.
  12. There is a serious problem when pitchers come here and do worse than their record shows, then leave and do better. There is a problem when young pitchers cannot make the jump from minors to majors. COACHING and FRONT OFFICE are able to impact talent and that should be a plus, not the negative impact of the past six years.
  13. This was the year we needed the new GM/president in place. Anthony gave us some effort, but 2016's 100 losses is second to the lost opportunities to develop the roster and organization for a run in the next couple years.
  14. As a result of the call ups this year, the list is filled with more names that I do not know, except for the great minor league reports, but somehow this list, so far, lacks the pizazz that I would like. I am not a fan of Light - big arm, but the Hoey comparison is still apt - I hope he turns it around. I hope that Melotakis can regain form and move up quickly, he is the most intriguing in this set of ten.
  15. I call it getting his freedom, the opportunity to pitch like he did before the Twins way got to him.
  16. The only reason for the Twins to play (of course they have no choice) is to get ready for the future. The list of objectionable decisions made this September (a continuation of other bad decisions) is way too long. At one point Berrios and May had the most upside. We have squandered May and ripped Berrios confidence - not to mention watching Gibson and Duffey regress. I heard that Molitor wants to come back with all his coaches - that is an indictment by itself. Here is what Nolasco has done in September since being freed from our coaches: September 34.0innings 23H 8R 7ER 8BB 24K 0.91whip 1.85ERA Then we destroyed Santiago until he decided to go back to what he had been doing. In the old days a pitcher was left in to work through jams and suck it up until he got it. Not pulled early. I miss that.
  17. I believe this is a filler - no news, nothing with any substance, but when you lose 100 games what else can you write?
  18. Mauer as a catcher was great, now Mauer is a filler. How many teams would trade their first baseman for him? I know some would, but how many? That is one measure of his true value. The problem for Joe is that he is not a Torii. He does not rally or motivate the group. Being a fine young man is not sufficient even in MN. I expect we will keep him, but hopefully we will rest him often and let others get ABs. Of course my biggest fear is that we might try to keep him beyond the contract.
  19. It is not just Mauer batting, but also Suzuki at DH that has me puzzled. A 100 loss team cannot give Walker and Palka a September look? That is ridiculous. Playing Mauer and Suzuki should not be allowed. Where is our minor league catcher; where is the realization that we just might miss the playoffs this year and finding the players for next year should be a priority. That is true in pitching too where it might have been a chance to see Gonsalves and the minor league bull pen pitchers. The Twins baffle me.
  20. For some reason that I cannot explain I was actually happy when we got to 100. Any team can be mediocre, but to be truly bad when a team has so many outstanding young players is historic. I look forward to seeing the young hitters mature and the new leadership step in. I hope we will think of defense and find some fixes to the pitching staff that do not gut the developing roster. From 100+ losses we can now look upwards.
  21. Buxton and Sano are the only untouchables. Buxton seems to be getting it now and I see him building on this season to be the star we expected. Beyond that how do we come up with untouchables on a 100 loss team? Of course I do not want to see a lot of our young players shipped out unless we can really see the team improving quickly to a reverse record. I really think player development, getting players ready for the majors and having a coaching staff that can handle the final transition is the most important.
  22. This is the siren call of most of us frustrated fans. I hold Molitor responsible for not dumping his coaches - especially the pitching coaches. We get Santiago, we mess him up, then he resurges when he forgets everything the Twins coaches tell him. What a mess. I feel really bad that Molitor messed up, but what is a boss? They are in charge of all those who function under his authority.
  23. How can I argue with this column. We can add more names but that would only bring on tears. Houston went down to the bottom and then rose by playing and staying with their minor leaguers. The batters may figure it out on their own, the pitchers? It is not an earthshaking insight, but then the author has not been reading the TD debates and discussions. Like the casual fans who are now turning to football the season is really puzzling and, for them, not worth spending a lot of time analyzing. When you continue to read, wait till next year, wait until the prospects come up, there are some expectations. Remember that when we built Target field it was so that the team could be competitive. Rosy statements only last for short times and then it requires reality. The key point has been the inconsistency. When Suzuki is a DH at this point in the season I have no explanation and I have been trying to pay attention throughout the prolonged period of suffering.
  24. That is a good question. Looking back at the hiring and various articles it appears that TR hired both Molitor and Allen at the same time - nothing says if Molitor was consulted. Here is the quote about MN pitchers from Allen when he was hired: "I love the arms down in our farm system. I love what I see in our future – the very near future. Not long-term future,” he reiterated, “but the very near future. We’ve got some big arms coming along, and I’m very excited.”
  25. September call ups are not limited. It is an insult to Walker to be left off the bench. Yesterday we had Suzuki at clean up! Talk about a joke. He hit sixth and went 0-4. Suzuki is a free agent. We get nothing from him after this season. Why do we not have every rookie playing and every vet sitting. Okay keep Dozier in so he can get his 40 home runs, but this should be about the future and Suzuki and for that matter Schaefer are not the players that are needed for us to move forward. What win total is so important for the now 52 - 89 Twins that we should be worried about getting vet ABs. Sit Mauer too. Sit Molitor too and bring up the minor league manager to play these young and talented players. So ABW strikes out here, will that cost us a winning season?
