  1. I have a bias - when a player is not in MLB at 27 I am ready to move on to the next player on the list. I know that older players are roster fillers, but I am most interested in getting the young guys at bat and game experience. This makes me wonder about Rooker. He should be at his peak, but I wonder if he has a real future with the Twins. My hope is that he lights it up for a while and we trade him.
  2. Nice thought piece. But I have seen some contented losing teams. I cannot comment on Baldelli - I question a number of moves he made so far, but is anyone better - I do not know. My favorite all time Twins manager was Billy Martin. The teamreally played for him, but he was so volatile that he could not last more than two years in one town. The attitude needs to come from the players. With Cruz and Donaldson we have the veterans and with Buxton showing the way we have a true star. But the player who exudes the enthusiasm is Astudillo. I know he gets criticized but his hustle even makes the other team smile. I can understand why Rocco plays him so often. Berrios has a good tough attitude - who else in SP? But then SP has not been the problem. Who is in the BP that can motivate? I have no idea. So let's just keep playing and hopefully playing hard.
  3. He was also sent down to a team that has yet to play. I do not believe that make believe batting in pretend leagues prepares a player for active MLB action. So give him time to get used to live pitching in real games.
  4. Love it - this is relief and I do not mean relief pitching. Just a nice game to enjoy and hope the corner is turned.
  5. Detroit escapes the cellar! We did it, we boosted the morale for the Tigers and sit alone in a position where we have all the teams in front of us so we can look up and see what strategy we want to use in our climb up the ladder. 7 - 15 .318 to get 95 wins we need to be 88 - 52 .628 the rest of the year. Is it possible? Buxton and Cruz are really leading the way, I put Polanco at U and Arraez everyday at 2B. Kiriloff stays on the field at LF or 1B. We need Donaldson and Simmons every day. Those players have enough fire power to propel us forward, seldom does an entire lineup have to be great. So fill in with Kepler and Larnach or maybe Sano comes back and proves he is not a one year wonder. Catcher is a position where an earlier TD post bragged that we were so much better off than other teams with two starting caliber players. I still believe in Jeffers but I am so puzzled by Garver, his great year seems to have been a curse rather than a benefit. Cave gone, keep Astudillo, he has life and he is hitting and fielding wherever they put him. Now the hard part - pitching. Let's see Berrios - yes. Maeda looks like he was a one year mirage, but I expect better. The starters seem fine. But the BP??? Could we call up Edwar Colina? Shouldn't we try some more of the RP we had in the spring?
  6. I too am concerned 20 games in - essentially 1/8th of the season. We need to play to a 102 win season rate to get to 95. Polanco no longer has an ankle excuse, Garver is not showing that 2020 was a fluke, but Jeffers is. We need to start Jeffers 10 in a row and see if he comes out of this. Rooker, Kiriloff, Cave have provided us with a where is Eddie performance. How about Larnach? Kepler is out, but was not inspiring before he went down and Sano looks completely lost. Then we add in Colome and the BP in general. Where is the hope? The inspiration. Please - 10 in a row. Relieve our pain.
  7. Twins 7 - 13 to reach 95 wins we must go 88 - 54 62% (this is a 101 season pct). Lets look at the team offensive stats - HRs - 7th, 2B - 9th, BB - 24th, Ks 21st, AV 11th, OBP 11th, SLG - 14th, OPS 12th. Sounds like a 500 team. Pitching Stats - ERA 15th, Whip 11th, Ks/9 - 13th, K/BB - 5th Fielding - Percentage - 19, Errors - 13 I could not find a BP ranking or stats I could trust. Put all those together and we are a 500 team. But we are not - yet.
  8. I am so proud of having hard hit outs!
  9. Depth does not solve the riddle of our underperforming starters - Garver, Sano, Jeffers, Polanco, Kepler and reserve Jake Cave. Astudillo and Arraez have done everything asked of them, but the lineup cannot have 4 - 5 under producing starters. Let's hope May heats them up. And let's hope the BP finds its footing too - especially Colome if he is going to continue to be asked for big outs.
  10. I am so excited to see the rookies coming. Can't wait for Larnach, Balazovic and Duran. Infuse the team with excitement and energy!
  11. It is time for the prospects to turn into productive players. I look forward to Gordon, Kiriloff and more.
  12. I do not understand Rocco's faith in Colome. We have other relievers. Don't tell me they are not trustworthy in tight situations - if not why do we have them. This was going to be the year of defense and I know Simmons is out, but to weaken all the positions in an extra inning game makes no sense.
  13. We have passed the 10% mark and we are in last place. April counts, but most difficult is the goal of 95 wins which is what most of us expected. They must now win at a 61% rate which is a 98 win rate - can we do it? Time to start.
  14. What sucks is that we are on a roll too - downhill and gaining momentum
  15. How do you reset? Remember when we laughed at KC and Detroit? Just to understand their suffering we have now taken over last place. We hit and lose, we pitch and lose, we bring in our closer and lose for sure - he does close the door! We have great fielding and then take it out in the extra innings????? 6 - 11 we now need to go 89 - 56 to get 95 wins. 61%. We might want to start soon. Rocco - the clock still ticks in April.
  16. When you walk the bases loaded you set yourself up for trouble - yes he blew it.
  17. speed off the bat is not the statistic I look to. Hitting the ball to a defensive player no matter how hard is not good. MLB batters are supposed to have some control over where they put the ball and I am not seeing anyone but Arraez, Cruz, Simmons, and Buxton so far, searching for hits with their ABs. Others are still in Bomba heaven. No one wins a game because they had the highest exit velocity or the longest HR. Hits and runs are the offensive keys.
  18. "TO SOME DEGREE CAVE"? To what degree has he not failed? -0.2 WAR .136 AV .224 OBP .159 SL .384 OPS
  19. 20. This is the year I paid to have the MLB.com all access - and I try to watch every Twins game, but sometimes I have to go to the Dodgers for relief. I know it is just April, but if we want to be a 95 win team we now need to go 89 - 57 which is almost 61%. I know you cannot win the pennant in April, but you can lose it. I do not know if Rocco is energetic in the club house or just a Bud Grant calm so I do not blame him for the record (just for the bad decisions) and I do want to see the call ups. I know Rooker looks bad, but that does not mean that other Minor Leaguers will stink. Cave looks terrible - he is not the answer. Is Kiriloff and Larnach? Should Balazovic and Duran come up like one of the commenters suggested? I do not know. But things aren't working. We need a winning streak to get enthusiasm on the field and in the stands. How will we do it?
  21. Simmons has been the best by far. He has out hit expectations, but more than anything when he is out and Polanco and Arraez are in the middle of the field they should never bring in Dobnak. They are too weak for a ground ball pitcher to survive. I do not know if they were expecting Lewis next year, but I think Simmons needs to be here next year. Hopefully Duran and Balazovic can replace Happ and Shoemaker. Not sure what they do with Pineda's slot in 2022 - Thorpe? I expect we will always see a rotation of RP - that seems to be the new Twins strategy.
  22. Ron Davis was even more frightening.
  23. I need to raise a question that I cannot answer. Did 2019's bombas actually hurt us? Did we learn to just wait to for the HR and forget that the other at bats count?
  24. If you are going to give away the ending you need to give a spoiler alert!
  25. Forget the triple crown, let's see if he can survive series in a row. The most discouraging thing for all of us fans is seeing this great athlete constantly broken down and unable to play
