  1. Glancing at the R&P page I noticed something that should relieve Brock a little... Nolasco has a $250,000 buyout each year. We will not have to be tied to him if he becomes a declining player...
  2. I am 44 and play basketball before work with a group of coworkers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I will keep doing it as long as my body allows, hopefully into my 60s. One of the guys is 65. Why would you quit when someone is paying you to do something you love so much? Youth will not come back. Do it while you can.
  3. Give them Two of Swarzak, Duensing, Burton, Worley, Hendricks. Check to see if there is an added prospect for another one or one of Plouffe, Parmalee, Colabello thrown in. Do it quick too, need roster spots ASAP!!!
  4. I agree with the idea of giving the franchise the ability to adapt to new situations as they arise. I agree that we need to keep the budget flexible so that we can add free agents down the road. 30 million to Nolasco/Garza + Joe Mauer = 53 Million. The rest of the expensive players will be off the roster leaving you with 11-15 million tied to low salary young players at 500k salaries and 50-60 million for those other free agents you want to sign. I don't see the concern.
  5. If they do not sign Garza, I hope they are done with FA pitchers.
  6. My family always has multiple Christmas presents and we take turns opening them. The last and best present is the Star Present! I hope our star present is Garza and there are 2-3 other presents between the first (Nolasco) and the star present... That gives TR 25 shopping days until Christmas...
  7. It seems to me that some of the best (the garza's of the world) are not going to be interested if we don't show we are serious (Nolasco and a catcher for example, maybe another pitcher like Hughes, Pelfrey)
  8. DocBauer, I think you nailed the best candidates!
  9. Lol, Thank You Peanuts!!! Truly humorous and hopefully at least a little bit true!!!
  10. Sorry about that massive run on sentence to end that last post... I guess I need an editor.
  11. Using football terms? Ok, Signing Nolasco this early is a first down, not a punt. It did not put us in field goal range yet (playoff dreams) or come close to a TD (WS Dreams) But it was a 20+ yard pass by a QB (TR) we are not used to seeing go downfield! So now we are driving the field. The fans are excited and getting loud! We think that if TR can hit the speedster WR Garza and a couple other youngsters block well (Rookies come up and do well, a young pitcher exceeds expectations, Gibson lives up to the hype) we just could get into that field goal range! If we can get either TE (Salty or AJ) going our chances of scoring would improve. But realistically we will probably need more contributors than that even. This is the Gophers vs Ohio St. So most fans are realistically just hoping to be competitive here but deep in our hearts we are always dreaming that everything could fall in place for the win but in the end we would be happy ending the season with a lesser bowl game and build the program for 2015 run for the roses.
  12. So with Nolasco signed, we have a full 40 man roster. Are we dropping someone or not drafting someone?
  13. 1. If the Reds KNOW they are not keeping him and EVERYONE else knows it too, they are not going to get maximum value. 2. There is no guarantee he will ever be a free agent. If he is traded to someone else willing to blow him away with an extension, we will not even get a chance to talk to him. (Tampering rules apply here also) 3. The team that trades for him will be the ONLY team negotiating and I would not mind being the only team negotiating with him. 4. It is a risk so Top prospects are off the board for us and not for contenders so we are VERY unlikely to get him without adding MLB ready players... This is where this discussion should center. Do we have what they would want to contend next year?
  14. Rosario, Willingham, Plouffe, Worley, Gibson, Duensing, Swarzak. Pick three
  15. Rank em by what should be the Twins interest: Navarro, AJ, Salty
  16. Using that set of stats, the guy with the most experience is AJ suggesting he should be in that conversation
  17. Exactly, Seth still dominates...
  18. Pinto is almost but not quite ready, Hermann or Fryer is the defensive replacement, backup, Doumit is a DH emergency 3rd catcher. This means we need a stop gap. Am I ok with Salty? Yes, keep the contract short. If you're looking stopgap though, you may be looking AJ more than Salty. So the real question isn't really Salty vs Pinto or how good is Salty. The REAL question is 1 yr or someone with potential for more than a year or two as insurance against Pinto flopping. (See Plouffe, Parmalee, Hicks) When you answer that question, we should examine free agents.
  19. The last couple years the Twins have invited a LOT of catchers because of all the AAAA pitchers if my memory serves correctly...
  20. Can a contract have multiple options. For example Team option at same amount as first two years, Player option at half of first two years with a two million buyout... If so, this would be the route to go on a third year...
  21. Great start to your posting career sadmnfan and welcome aboard. i would be beyond happy if your blueprint was followed.
  22. Great article, Thanks John!
  23. How about a tie... Miserable packer fans and still doesn't move us draft wise ver much. Love it!! As for no moves yet, look at the dates of last years moves...If TR holds the same pattern, a lot could happen in the next two weeks.
  24. This link will take you to the Twins MiLB page. The top 20 prospects are listed there as well as links to the MiLB Twins Affiliates. Under the names of the teams you can pull up rosters and stats...lots of info there but to start I would check out the 20 listed. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/news/prospects/index.jsp?c_id=min there are more extensive lists (beyond the 20) but do not have the links handy right now
