Tho me can't be the DH... Too nice! Don Baylor was a short termed but he took the pitch off the shoulder and brought a clubhouse attitude to. World Series winning team
I am honestly back and forth on this. I think Florimon will be marginally better than last year and I love myself a defensive SS. I also want an offensive upgrade and with what is out there in FA and who is coming up, the only immediate offensive upgrade I can stomach sans trade is Drew. IMHO (which has changed) I think we should roll with this low payroll and Florimon. Or or make a trade...
129. I froze in the clutch and forgot the whole Soul Patrol. That timer really messed with my head! At least I got all the first baseman and opening day starters. Yes, I got Tewksbury, Stahoviak, Tapani and missed Lawton,Hunter, Jones. Ultimate fail!
The problem that I'm seeing with that is so few players I would want them to sign...the one or two I've heard argued for have equally been argued against by the fans. No the off season will be a success even if nothing else happens but I sure hope they find a way to make a trade or two to improve.
The Hall of Fame is not and never will be about numbers or saber metrics though those things can be used to analyze things. It's about being the best of the All Stars. I loved going to Twins games to see Brad Radke pitch. All Star, not HOF. Tony O. Was a great player but not HOF. I enjoyed watching Black Jack pitch for us after all those years against us. He was a great pitcher no matter what the stats say or he would not have been a number one starter on so many great teams. He gave us a home town discount, gave us a great year, is in the HOF for the best pitched game I have ever seen (both pitchers, not just him) and left since he'd lived the dream of winning for the hometown team. HOF? No. Great? Yes. Why? Because less than 75% of the people (even on here) think he was THAT great. Some of those that actually watched him the most, the BBWA, think HOF or he would not have received votes but not a consensus and we need a true 75% or more agree consensus. That is also why I think the BBWA have also gotten it right. When you walk into the HOF, you know you are looking at the greatest of the Great there. It needs to always be that way and there needs to be a cut off line in the sand. Some greats just are not great enough.
I am not a scout nor have I seen Rosario play but I have followed his stats and scouting reports for two years (and tons of TD speculation) and everything points to an MLB bat with some power and the athleticism to switch to second. Again, the scouting reports I have read all say 2nd base defense has improved and estimates before the suspension were making his debut this year there. Some scouts are still thinking he could be a sept. Call up this year. I don't get the "Fringe" term or "little success".
I think you should hire this guy for a free handbook! Read the book cover to cover and the compiled information cannot be found anywhere else. Great job writing it and I feel kinda bad about commenting on the editing issue especially since I enjoyed it so much. Thank you.
Most teams would be giving up a first round pick which makes it easier for the worst teams like the Twins to go after him because we lose less AND what are the odds on a second rounder? Either Drew or that Cuban SS (what's his name? Where's his thread?) needs to be acquired. There are NO shortstops close to pounding on the door in our system as there are at most all other positions. That is why I had Drew in my off season blue print... We need to address SS this year or next! (Honesty in conversation, I have also said a winning team can have a poor offensive SS and compared Florimons potential to Gagne but that's only potential IMHO)
I'm predicting Hicks is this years Brian Dozier, we do not need another mediocre to poor OF option. We have what we need to get by and we could bring up AAAA outfielders (we still have Wilkin Ramirez and Darin Mastroianni) as place holders if needed but hopefully we won't need that. Arcia is the real thing folks, he's got right. Willingham has left until traded. The Plouffe/Parmalee/Hermann options are backing them up. We don't need Nyjer.
At the beginning of the post season it was my belief that the Twins would have to grab a free agent pitcher or two and a position player or two before Garza would even consider the Twins an option. Now that we have, the pitcher I believe is the best of the off season is a possibility. Sign him! He will cost more than any other free agent we signed this off season but there is a reason for that... He is a better pitcher. 4 years, front loaded, incentives based 4th year and an incentives based 5th year option.
I am on page 145 reading it cover to cover. You guys have done an amazing job and I am enjoying your work thoroughly. You have far exceeded my expectations and hopes. Does any other teams have people doing this type of great work? In short, Thank You! I Definitely love having hitters and pitchers separated. I would not make many changes as the concise manner this is produced has a value of it's own. Having said this, here are my two suggestions: 1) I agree with the concept of expanding the forecast to include scouting projections or Something that would give us some idea of the odds we could see this guy in Minni. When it is all boiled down what we really care about most is how these guys will impact the big club. 2) Get an improved editor system. There are a lot of really silly mistakes that as you guys read your own work, I am sure you shake your heads at. My suggestion, offer someone you'd trust a free book to read it cover to cover and point out the little mistakes before you send it out. Not trying to be picky but you guys really are way too professional for the number of minor editing errors I found. (examples, pg 136, "amateur days:" is substituted with "amateur: amateur:" pg 146 "Scouting Report: Roberts in a talented player...")
People with the greatest talents will gravitate towards the top of their profession. What brings the most prestige, personal benefit, or pay? Top athletes get to pick where they play based on where they can win, get paid and/or be the Man on the team (see marbury). Most teachers get into teaching for the love of kids and a desire to make a difference in young lives (I have not met one that did not say this but I will leave room for error saying most) when we do not respect the profession, pay poorly, and the benefits are gone because they work other jobs in the summers, how do you expect to draw greatness into the profession. Like the Houston Astros, you get what you pay for. I am a Special Education Teacher. I have been assaulted several times this year and I am told by administration that if I get hit or kicked it is my fault for not moving out of the way. Students cannot be restrained without consequences (hours of paperwork or administrative discipline) even when assaultive due to recent state law changes. Don't put down what others do until you've walked in their shoes. It is a fairly thankless job. Tomorrow I will be in my office working to get caught up on paperwork. Several teachers are planning this together so we can also have a lunch together. The grass is always greener in the neighbours lawn isn't it?
And now with obamacare, you can only substitute a certain number of times per week or the schools have to give health insurance so they are restricting the sub days
I agree with both sides of the discussion in most ways but there are things a pitcher can work on at a lower level. For instance, Melotakis was not going out and giving what he felt was his best stuff on a daily basis last year at the level he should have been at. The Twins left him at CR to specifically work on improving certain pitches before moving up. If a pitcher is to work on ironing out certain approaches or techniques, that should be done at a level down where his ERA is less than 6-7. Likewise, Colabello dominated Rochester but hopefully learned he needs to change his approach to hitting MLB pitching. Hopefully he is working on those things. Aaron Hicks showed a need to work. Just because his numbers at AAA were poor after being sent down doesn't mean he wasn't "improving". The question is, does Gibson have specific things the big club wants him to work on? If so, AAA. If not, hopefully he earns his way into the rotation and Correia is traded in Spring Training.
So who has the story with AAA signing of 1st baseman CJ Ziegler? I guess I will start it though I may be hung by two old men and Thrylos... Hey, he's only 28!! http://tucsoncitizen.com/highschoolsports/2013/10/18/former-canyon-del-oro-standout-c-j-ziegler-named-independent-leagues-player-of-the-year/ http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2013-independent-leagues-player-of-the-year-c-j-ziegler/
