  1. I think most people fall under this "average fan" description (fair weather fans?) and fail to look at above average as good. I enjoy being a Vikings fan because they are usually a good team but hate listening to people whine about how lousy they are when they are 9-7 or 10-6 but not real contenders! (Yes, I know this year they actually are lousy) Those are still good years, just not great! I do want Super Bowls. I remember Fran Tarkington and the Purple People Eaters. I also watched or listened to every game in 87 and want that again but a true fan (abbreviation of Fanatic btw) should recognize rebuilding will take some average and above average years on the way to the World Series. The 87 core came up in 82? none of this means we should be accepting of the past three years, they sucked to live through (so did the late 70s and early 80s) but let's be realistic. TR is still rebuilding Bill Smiths mess and he has done a nice job rebuilding the "system" but MLB results take time and I want to see more wins next year. +10 would be appropriate. Do I want and dream of more? Yes!! But give me at least that +10!!
  2. My favorite part of this is that you have come up with some ideas that have not been posted yet. Thinking differently than previously started ideas gets us thinking and I am definitely thinking... I also am not sold on Kyle Gibson. Trading Burton and Plouffe I think needs to happen so go for this trade. Since your giving up 3 MLB players, see if you can get them to throw in a PTBNL prospect at the A+ level to boot. If not, I'd still take that deal but don't tell them that up front. I am BIG on Arcia and I think he's going to blow up next year... I don't want to trade him for a one year rental but if a year of arb can be rolled into a five year contract as a stipulation in this trade, I'm listening. Again, since we're giving up 3 MLB players I would be trying to get a prospect thrown in here also. No problem with Johan or Hughes signings, not sure about Kubel. I think they can go higher than 80m (78.7) so someone better than Kubes please.
  3. The current state of the Twins budget allows us to spend for two or three starting pitchers and a bat. Willingham and Doumit will also be off the books some time next year so spending the max budget won't handicap us for 2015. In other words getting Hart would not restrict us from getting All the pitching we need. It's mostly a matter of convincing those pitchers to come here for a rebuild year with up and coming prospects. That is the tougher sell.
  4. Hartman: Pohlad ready to spend for free-agent players | Star Tribune
  5. They also greatly increased payroll right after getting the new stadium and have stayed above the previous payroll ever since. It has been made clear that Ryan did not spend as much as he had been allotted by the Pohlads and they have made it clear in the press that they want TR to be much more aggressive this offseason. Bashing the Pohlads in this way does not hold up very well. Personally, I would like to see a change made with BP. I would like to watch it and charging an early entrance fee to enter is better than not being able to see it at all... I think it should be free to enter early but that is not the common MLB practice league wide.
  6. I am confident without looking at numbers that the Twins current 52% has ever been nearly this far above current payroll. This means TR is in unprecedented territory as far as how much money he has to spend. I also believe from quotes I have read that the Pohlads will be upset if he does not spend significantly more than on last years FA market. How do we prejudge what someone will do when put in a completely different place than ever before? I am confident Willingham's record contract will go down in flames this offseason, but for who and how many guys? If that doesn't happen, attendance will plummet and so will profits. I am also convinced "they" have had Econ 101,201,301,and 401! They have to spend. We know it but more importantly, they know it.
  7. Two words: Tanaka, Garza. We have the money and they are the quality everyone is wanting. I want us to finally go for it! Send Zygis Jet and pick them up!!
  8. That's a top five to get excited about! Wow!
  9. I chose to pledge one that I knew had a moral backbone that wouldn't abuse pledges but aimed to make pledging a fun way to get to know each other. When I was later in charge of pledges, I got to know them so as to not abuse or offend them. Pledge week was an excuse to be silly and ridiculous and have fun. My room mate was pushed in the right way to finally talk to that girl he'd liked. It is all about how and why it is done. How things are done in work places have to be about team building and not intimidation, offending people, or making them uncomfortable coming to work. The Twins things they do seem silly and aimed at fun, not any of these other things that happened in Miami.
  10. Thrylos, Amazingly informative post!! This is the most new info that I have read in the past two weeks on TD and I have read EVERYTHING! Thank You!! This also reinforces my desire to sign Josh Johnson to a creative contract. I keep hearing he wants just a one year contract to build value. Give him that one year with mutual options for two more years in a creative way that he will sign. For example: Year 1-7million;year 2-15 million team option/7.5 million player option;year 3-17 million team option/8 million player option. (Adjust the numbers to make sense and get er done)
  11. Who do you want resigned? My list predicting how you would start with: Soliman, Stuifbergen, Hernandez, Goncalves, Morales
  12. Sometimes my posts are more emotional than logical.
  13. I get what your saying Seth. I should have given my reason why I like it...I love when a prospect reaches the majors at a fairly young age so we can root for them for a LONG time so being this high on the prospect chart and young gives us better odds of seeing them in a Twins Uniform for 15+ years. Even being able to root for them before they get here and knowing the names for a long time. That is why I like their youth.
  14. I was part of a fraternity and we had traditional initiations that some could call hazing but by no means went to far and participants chose to go through. We could say no and not join. I remember the things I was required to do fondly and it was fun going through pledge week. Great memories really. On one hand what the Twins do I think is funny and harmless but on the other hand it is Tied to a work place and being required as part of a work environment which seems different to me. Having said all of this I am confused as to where a line could be drawn as I am sure most veterans look back on their rookie initiations fondly...
  15. What I love about these 5 names is their ages. Only Walker is over 20 and the 5 together average under 20.
  16. Greg Gagne's first full season was 225/279/317. I would love to have the second coming of Greg Gagne but I do not necessarily believe Florimon will be that. But if... Gagne Stats Yrs. G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR. RBI. SB. CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS 87-91 712 2348 2154 297 549 122 26 48 216 51 34 119 422 .255 .297 .403 .700 Avg 142 470 431 59 110 24 5 10 43. 10 7 24 84 .255 .297 .403 .700 And Two World Series titles...
  17. Japan? Ouch. Not saying your wrong, just ouch. I loved Kubel and hate that things have gone this way for him. Sorry Kubes... it just isn't in the Twins best interest to bring you back.
  18. So what if I want Andrus and Miller?
  19. He's an average player that we could bring in for an average to below average price without blocking any prospects, drawing more fans to target field, and honoring someone who has given us his best years. Give him a two year contract and let him retire a twin two years from now. I know that is fairly young retirement, it just may be reality though.
  20. I REALLY like how you think. What about a FA position player... If you were upgrade by getting someone, who would you go after? We have the salary room still under your plan.
  21. Arcia in RF is completely missing. With upcoming Buxton bumping out a cf, I see RF as a three bobber, two at very worst.
  22. I had to look Correias numbers but When I said started slowly I was simply remembering he finished strong the last couple months. Correia ERA by month. (ESPN.go.com MLB splits) April 2.23 May 6.26 June 4.29 July 6.18 August 3.60 September 3.48
  23. I'd give him 2 years, 8-10 million just for the leadership presence and fan popularity. It's not like he is blocking up and coming Prospects...
  24. Amen! If your not going to go for Greinke, go for these guys hard being creative on the long term! Johnson, 1 year at 7 million with mutual options for next two seasons at 15-20 for example...
  25. I thought you were unable to sign free agents yet...
