  1. Best watch yourself in case that poodle retaliates
  2. So the bench is Bride, Fitzgerald, and PTBNL?
  3. They've also been losing followers and influence to the "hip" megachurch on the north side of town for the last couple decades
  4. Broadcast confirms Buxton and Correa both in concussion protocol
  5. No one has been pulled out in Des Moines yet. I'm suddenly much more interested in the Game 2 lineup
  6. Paddack back out. Back to back outings into at least the 7th when the team really needed it
  7. Unfortunately can't say the same about the slide into second
  8. From what I saw it looked like Lee was probably going to be safe easily, but he ain't exactly Vince Coleman. I understand the move
  9. Hopefully SWR was taking notes when Professor Paddack gave his seminar on the benefits of first pitch strikes. It would be great if he saw the sixth
  10. I have a theory that doubleheaders are more likely to end in a split than any two random games. If every game's a coin flip, then it would be a split 50% of the time. But between the winner of game 1 being more likely to burn their top bullpen arms, the game 1 loser trying extra hard to avoid a sweep, and the game 1 winner having a natural easing up after having a win banked away, I figured splits would happen well above 50% of the time. I started trying to track it a couple years ago. In 2023 splits did happen quite a bit more often. Last year was a pretty even split. And so far this year, splits have only happened in 3 of 10 doubleheaders so far. In conclusion, I've wasted a lot of my/my employer's time
  11. Ober has mastered the art of looking much worse than his boxscore this year
  12. Man, two days off in a row really makes it feel like they haven't played in forever
  13. It comes up more often around the PED issue, but I've seen this idea resurface with this reinstatement news: "The character clause means anyone associated with <issue> should be automatically DQ'd from consideration." Here is what is actually stated in the requirements (pulled from the HOF site): 5. Voting: Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played. As it is laid out here, I can't interpret the character clause as some binary override switch that is to be used to remove someone from consideration. It is simply one of several factors to be considered. It's purposefully vague so that each voter can apply the criteria as they see fit, and allows for changes in attitudes and new information revealed to be considered. Because of that, I support allowing banned players to be considered for the Hall. If enough voters feel that the character/integrity flaws outweigh the other factors that would otherwise put them in the Hall, then so be it. Based on the way Bonds and Clemens (and Schilling, which surprised me) didn't get close to gaining entry on their first Veterans Committee ballot, I don't think Rose and Jackson will be getting enshrined any time soon. But I think their cases should be made and considered.
