  1. On the replay, Fundy got a late break to the bag. I think that one's at least partially on him
  2. I think the anvil Bell is dragging around the basepaths prevented that run as much as the fake-out
  3. Josh Bell: such an RBI machine, he doesn't even need to swing to get em
  4. Nice deke by Acuna, just forgot that whole hold-the-ball-while-throwing-it thing
  5. I expect this to happen to me 3-7 more times over the course of the rest of the season
  6. "Screw it, we don't have to decide where to put the runner if we just say it stands"
  7. I think Keaschall could effectively be that RH bat that also plays in a corner outfield spot against righties. Martin or an equivalent RH bat could take Keaschall's spot in the field when he's at DH. That would basically leave you a Martin/Larnach DH platoon, only Martin does the fielding for Keaschall. That would, I think, maximize the skillsets of all three of those players. It would also leave the other two outfield spots for, say, Buxton and Jenkins. If Buxton is out, then Jenkins can slide over to center and you can work Roden/Emma/whomever else in with Martin. That could be one way to slide the current pieces together while retaining Larnach. Looking at it this way, Roden and Emma sure start to look redundant.
  8. That's a good point - they're already looking at a potential bind with an optionless E-Rod next year. Facing that with Martin as well? I don't think they want to be in that position
  9. Target Field was a fun place to be in 2019. A real fun energy in the crowd, "EDDIE" chants, etc. They fell flat in the playoffs when the rotation fell apart and the Yankees did their thing, but that was a fun season to be a fan Come to think of it, that was their last season before signing ... Josh Donaldson. And he only played here when COVID either restricted crowds or eliminated them entirely. And he was gone before 2022 started. You could make the argument that there is no former Twin less qualified to make this assessment than Josh Donaldson
  10. That seems like the most likely use of that spot. Is there anyone about to come off the 60-day IL, or are they dumpster diving for starting pitching depth? If not, it's probably Jenkins
  11. Wichita? That booming metropolis? Way too big of a city. Maybe they can resurrect their team in Visalia - that might be more his speed As for the game, I actually thought Neftlix did a pretty decent job with their presentation. Based on the way they handled their opening day game, I thought they'd be shoehorning Shane Gillis skits into the pregame to promote the new season of Tires. Instead, they leaned heavily into baseball nostalgia, which is sort of the whole point of a Field of Dreams game. And the Hall of Famers bit was really cool. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but having the HOF closers come out last was a nice subtle touch
  12. It's an interesting thought, but it doesn't really prove anything if you don't look at how versatile other teams are in comparison to their defensive rankings. A single data point is not a trend. There's also a chicken-or-the-egg aspect to it. Guys who are lockdown defenders at their position don't get moved around. Buxton doesn't get moved around. The good version of Correa didn't get moved around. Are they bad defenders because they get moved around, or are they getting moved around because they aren't good enough to lock down a position? That certainly raises questions about your scouting and development practices, but that's a discussion for different thread Then there's simple roster math. With the expansion of pitching staffs, teams just don't have the position-player depth that they used to be able to have. Back in the day, there was a 25 man roster, a 10 man pitching staff, and no DH. Take away a starting and backup catcher, and you had 13 players to cover 7 spots. Now, with a 26 man roster, a 13 man pitching staff, and a permanent DH spot, you have 11 players to cover 8 spots. Increased versatility is a necessity, and I don't think this gets acknowledged enough
  13. Putting Duran in with a 6 run lead is just mean
  14. There is no way they're watching tonight, with the possible exception of Tom
  15. At 5AM on Monday, I broke my toe while trying to let my dying dog out of the basement, discovering that she'd taken a dump in the kids' play room in the process. Hearing the Pohlads called beloved on a national stage was the worst part of my week
  16. Pohlad family: a long-time and beloved ownership group Vasgersian, you silly little boy
  17. They're doing the microwave wrong Grilled in the husk sounds fantastic
  18. Like, 5 minutes. This method effectively steams them
