  1. The only time either of these starters have seen the sixth inning this year was when Abel began his outing in the fifth. The Tigers have asked a lot out of their bullpen this series, while the Twins' bullpen has created a lot of work for themselves. So whose bottom of the bullpen can be the least ineffective? Acton, today may be your day
  2. The lack of lefties in the lineup is also mitigated a bit when there are three switch-hitters in the lineup as well - well, two switch hitters and whatever you'd like to call this version of Lee
  3. What do we call it now? The Justin Topa Experience? The Cole Sands Experience? The Tom Pohlad Experience?
  4. Well, technically that's an improvement in the bunting dept for Lee
  5. I like some of the things Shelton does. Going to Topa as much as humanly possible is not one of those things Dodged a bullet
  6. I've noticed that too. I'm sure carrying more lefties in the pen will lead to more matchup-based usage than normal since it's not really an option when you're only carrying one. It could also be a bit of a fact-finding mission as they are still trying to figure out what this motley crew can and can't do. I wonder if this will decrease if/when roles become more defined.
  7. I thought basically the same thing, and it certainly shaped my view of the trade at the time. Happy to be wrong here. Maybe there's another angle here: are the Rays sneaky bad at being the buyer in trades? They certainly have more practice being the seller
  8. Bullpen conjuring suspense out of thin air God, I hate these Eric Byrnes commercials about as much as I hate snakes, raw onions, and Jane's Addiction
  9. This might be the most I've enjoyed an in-game interview with a player
  10. I know it didn't work out completely cleanly, but I love that they let him go out for the 7th. Well done Shelton, well done Taj
  11. What a great challenge by Jeffers. Might've bought Bradley another inning
  12. Chasing Skubal in the fifth with a string of hits when the inning began with Lee bunting the ball off his own face. Baseball is weird and fun
  13. Cold nights like this might push Skubal toward LA over NY
  14. Did ... did Lee just hit himself in the face with the bat on a bunt attempt? See, this is why you don't bunt. Too dangerous
  15. I gotta say, Wallner's put together some nice ABs the last couple of games. Facing a dominant lefty, attack early in the count and go with the pitch. We can work with this
  16. They must really be afraid of Martin or Roden having to cover CF for even a short spell Would a plausible workaround to that be Roden/Kriedler up, Outman/Clemens down? Roden/Martin platoon in LF, Bell at 1B most days, Larnach at DH most days, Caratini a true backup at C/1B while moonlighting as DH (he'd still play a decent amount), Kriedler primary utility IF while providing cover in CF. I don't think the D we've seen at 1B from Clemens is appreciably any better than Bell, so he becomes unnecessary pretty quickly. Kriedler can't hit but neither can Outman, and at least he provides some positive versatility. I don't see anyone picking up Outman after the start he's had. Clemens might, but that's fine. He isn't doing anything well enough to justify a spot anymore.
