Way past his playing career, he was the neighbor of a family friend, and he let me interview him for a school project I did about athletes giving back. It turned into a nearly decade long mentorship and friendship with him and his family. What a gem of a human being

Marlins (Weathers) vs Twins (Ober): 9/24/24, 6:40pm
tampatwins replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
barring an unexpected turnaround, this team is just watching their chances go up in smoke, with a golden opportunity to recontrol their own destiny against the 2nd worst team in baseball...this is unreal. and just disgusting to watch -
Week in Review: Brink of Disaster
tampatwins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I said last week that this week would define their season and potential post season chances..this was not the definition that we had in mind 😬 they better sweep the marlins and then we revisit the possibility of playoffs. Otherwise, this is putrid and I’m done til they can Rocco and the entire coaching staff. Everything has just fallen off a Cliff. I get they are tired, but so is every team -
I hate to be this guy, but if you’re looking to avoid the Yankees til the ALCS (provided we get in as the 6), we should be rooting for Cleveland to finish as the 2. They don’t reseed after each round like football; therefore, if we are the 6, we take out Houston, then we play the 2, not the 1. If we get the 5 seed and beat Baltimore, we’d go to NYY. let’s just get in first

I love this team as much as yall do, but I have to say (and have been saying): this team doesnt seem worthy of a playoff spot. Tomorrow's game becomes a must win, and then they have a gauntlet between Cleveland and Boston. Effectively, the season will be decided this coming week, whether we want to admit it or not

Royce Lewis Has Run Out of Gas
tampatwins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That’s my two cents. But Royce needs to stop crying and show up since he’s all the team has left for a spark -
Royce Lewis Has Run Out of Gas
tampatwins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I say this as a registered dietitian, certified strength and conditioning specialist, and someone who played baseball into college: it’s a lot more physically demanding than you’d expect. Everything is about explosive power and repetition, which takes a major toll. ie: I’m younger than some players on the roster and in really good shape (my profession requires it). Went to twins fantasy camp for a week. After day 1, my groin and hamstrings and IT bands and calves were shot, from taking a few swings and playing a few innings in the field. No BP. No lifts. Nothing. I could tolerate it and work through it, and I had access to said training staff and I’m qualified to be their dietitian, so my recovery methods are great. But I did a fraction of what they’d do on a daily basis, and they do it for 8 months a year. baseball will wreck you and remind you have muscles you forget you even had. So the grind is very real. Not to defend them, but it’s certainly not easy. -
theres zero spark with this team - like no one in the clubhouse can get the team HYPED and ready to go to war. where's the intensity? Rocco sits around like a company's IT guy and puts in a new experimental iteration and thinks "how will this go today?" and hopes it pays off, and lately, it's been snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Don't get too comfortable, since even .500 baseball the rest of the way could blow this playoff run. This team needs to WAKE UP. I still dont understand why ESPN has our playoff odds consistently 10% above the Royals, but I digress...

The twins need to be thanking their lucky stars that as inept as they’ve been, the entire rest of the American League has been right there with them (other than Detroit), or they’d have completely played themselves out of a wild card spot right now. They have to start to get it together or they’re going to have an embarrassing collapse ala 2007 Mets

I went to the game last night (yay for living in Tampa) and I’m grateful we got the W, but wow was that much more stress than it needed to be: My observations: SWR did not have it from the second batter onward . Everyone was knocking him all over the park, and he was just leaving everything over the plate and getting shellacked. the pen still scares me. When the 8th began, I turned to my wife and said “they need at least one insurance run” and thankfully Lee hit his bomb, which was needed. But sands in the 8th made me nervous. That rays lineup was not their A team or B team. So manifesting festa shows up and shows out tonight, or the twins could be in for some tough sledding. Also hoping Boston continues their slide ans LC/CLE beat each other up

This type of post, while true, feels like it’s just tempting the baseball gods to have the Red Sox and tigers go on a heater and the twins fall out of the picture with their mediocre play…or barely make it by the skin of their teeth

Week in Review: Sliding Amid Setbacks and Sloppiness
tampatwins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The playoffs are far from a certainty, as Rocco seems to be playing as if its a guarantee, since a few more of yesterdays clunkers, combined with a few Boston wins (plus a series against them in sept), and things suddenly get a whole lot more interesting…they have to have the killer instinct and they don’t seem to have it. Correa can’t come back fast enough, and what is Farmer even doing on the roster at this point? Farmer wrecked any late game momentum BEFORE Juliens adventure toss. Bring up Kiersey and see what he’s got as a jolt down the stretch.- 15 replies

Week in Review: Persevering Through Pain
tampatwins replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
this next series with the royals is the litmus test for if this team can hang despite all the injuries in the past few weeks. it almost feels like a playoff preview. If the Twins come in and bury the royals top 3 SPs, despite all thats gone on and their limited BP and lineup, then they truly can make some noise. But if they crumble, i have a feeling the bottom is about to fall out and it's all gonna catch up to them. They NEED Correa back, and they need a spark. It almost felt like they swept the doubleheader Friday and thought 'oh well, we got 2, so we can't lose ground, cool." Where's the killer instinct?- 21 replies

Had he gone to most other schools (originally committed to Stetson and then outgrew them), he would have exclusively caught from day 1, so if the Twins are smart, they'll throw him back there. He was in the 98th percentile in the country for his pop time as a HS catcher.

Hi friends, I've never posted on Twinsdaily, but I've lurked here for the better part of the past 4 years to get my twins updates as someone who lives in good ol Tampa, florida (raised in the midweset). I finally made an account today so I can comment on the Twins taking Jaime Ferrer, which I am SO grateful for, and in the not so distant future, you will be grateful too. I've known Jaime since he was 11 years old, and he's basically a little brother to me. For those of you saying he had a pop up year this past year, he hit over .300 each year at FSU, and his first two years was on some pretty horrid FSU teams (due to pitching). I've watched him develop over the years from a string bean to big stick whose got power, can fly, and quite honestly, if the Twins are smart, they'll try him out behind the dish, since he's a natural catcher and played there til he got to FSU, where he was blocked by upperclassmen his first season (but they needed his bat so they threw him in LF and RF). Dude's got a cannon, and dude has the 'I will bust my tail no matter what' mentality, so he'll be easy to root for. Am I biased? Sure. But watching him develop over the years has been pretty remarkable, and he was holding his own in a lineup with two top 15 guys. Had he stayed at C, he'd have been a top 15 pick as well. If they keep him in the OF, he'll stay in the corners (probably RF) and could easily develop to a top guy. Under the radar, possible money move, sure, but the Twins got themselves a good one. He's HYPE right now
