  1. Nope, and I believe my posts in any of the dozens of Buxton related threads will bear that out. My standard response, even at his worst was that guys drafted that high, with those milb numbers don't tend to bust that spectacularly. I think about the lowest i got on him was saying that perhaps instead of becoming Willie Mays he only becomes Torii Hunter.
  2. I think I was one of about 2 posters that liked the move from the start. He's been far from ace material, but compared to what we had been getting from that 5th spot he's been good and stabilizing.
  3. I never doubted he'd be a star, both offensively and defensively, not even a little bit. He still has a little ways to go offensively, but I still believe.
  4. I agree with dman. Prospects should not even be a minor consideration when it comes to position depth chart until they reach AA, IMO.
  5. All time greatest of all time? Isn't that a bit redundant?
  6. Clutch is maintaining your performance even when the pressure is higher, IMO.
  7. And that was the one post I acknowledged, and it was from Dave. None of the other 3 suggest it was foolish then or now. "They got too cute and it backfired".... how are you reading that as calling for their heads? That reads to me like a criticism of 1 specific move. Are you suggesting that people are required to agree with every move or they are off the bandwagon??
  8. Santana was actually even much better in June of 2006. Just 5 earned runs in 6 starts. 44 k to 5 bb's in 43 innings.
  9. Thanks. Example #6,753,861 of ESPN incompetence. No BS listed in their boxscore.
  10. There are a couple errors in the article. 1)Johan wasn't technically a rule 5 pick by the Twins. He was picked by Florida ( the Twins picked Jared Camp), then traded to the Twins. 2) Lowering the mound would help the hitter, not raising it.
  11. Only one of those 4 quotes could be construed as calling for the GM's head and that was Dave. So no. "People" are not calling for their heads already. Not even close. It's fine to disagree with those criticizing the FO for a specific move without making things up or putting words in people's mouths.
  12. It seemed to me that Chief was using Joe as a reference point, not taking a shot at him, but that's just how I read it, don't want to speak for him.
  13. Where was that said in here?
  14. Did anyone actually call for his head in this thread, let alone multiple people?
  15. There are 2 just on the page before this one alone. One from blackjack, one from Thrylos.
  16. I wasn't responding to the OP. I don't agree it was incompetence, or even the wrong decision. But multiple people in this thread have implied, if not outright said that there were no other viable options. That's just not true, and that's what I was responding to.
  17. I haven't defended him once. Don't know enough about him either way. Simply asking for actual (not anecdotal or subjective) evidence that he's such a terrible umpire before I just take Ian Kinsler's word for it. Still yet to see any.
  18. Yikes. I was trying to defend the board, not mock them. I guess no good deed goes unpunished.
  19. I think these days the TV contracts dictate revenue as much or more than attendance, though I could be wrong.
  20. Probably not. But then again, he is a legit alternative. And there are people in this thread who seem to be implying that there were no viable alternatives.
  21. 1) Torres comments don't tell me anything about where he ranks compared to the other umps. Again, for all I know he declined from good to average. 2) I never claimed it had to be accidental. It could be that he's just an average umpire who rubs guys the wrong way.
