  1. Park's contract is chump change.
  2. Longoria signed a 6 year, 17.5 million (plus 3 team options) contract in April 2008, 6 days after making his mlb debut.
  3. Yeah, Fleck is a joke. I hope his buyout isn't too much. It really is unreal how Gophers football can just never get it right.
  4. A failed SB attempt costs you an out AND the baserunner. A failed sac bunt attempt only costs you an out. So a straight success % comparison doesn't quite work, you have to give extra weight to the caught stealing.
  5. Well that's not always true either. Sometimes there are multiple options, and the player and doctor immediately choose surgery. I think its a case by case basis. It's never "always do surgery right away", or "only do surgery as a last resort".
  6. Well I became hooked as a twins fan when they did win 2 world series, as a child. Just because the Twins haven't won since, doesn't mean it doesn't matter if they win or not.
  7. Strike one in that AB was actually outside, so they cancel each other out.
  8. A couple things about the situational hitting you bring up. Do you have any data that supports your theory? Also, you seem to contradict yourself. Isn't the whole point of bunting to put yourself INTO a situational hitting spot, not OUT of one? You bunt a guy over to third with your first out, that's a situational hitting spot you've just created for yourself, is it not?
  9. But in this case, baseball is a business, and the game is a product. It DOES matter if you win or lose. This is like a restaurant saying it doesn't matter if my steak is cooked properly, as long as the chef had fun cooking it. I'm not saying these guys have to go home and kick the dog if they lose, but at the same time, these guys making tens of millions of dollars don't get to pretend it's the same thing as kids playing a pick up game at the park.
  10. Who knows, maybe we do win one if Punto doesn't try to score from second base on an infield base hit vs the Yankees and get thrown out by 55 feet.
  11. Doesn't the FO assemble the roster?
  12. An expert shooter can easily fire a semi-auto 90 to 120 rounds per minute, with accuracy. With 17 rifles to cups cycle through, even reloading isn't going to slow that down. It's also being reported that he may have used a trigger crank.
  13. There might be 2 or 3 players in the whole league worth 3 WAR, maybe. That's like a 30 WAR player in baseball. Plus football has way bigger rosters. Most really good players in the NFL are probably only worth a fraction of 1 win. With only 16 games, and 53 players, that's the only way the math works.
  14. Unfortunately, no. It's been shown that to some, being able to own a bunch of guns is more important than any reasonable safety. And I agree, there is not a shooting that is possible that would move the needle. If 5 year olds getting shot in the back trying to run didn't, nothing will.
  15. Aren't injuries a factor for Every team in the NFL? I dont see that as any kind of excuse. They were expecting to roll with Murray and McKinnon before they got lucky with Cook falling in the draft, so I don't think his injury can be an excuse. Bradford, yes that's legit, but Spielman did bring him in knowing the history of that knee, so he doesn't get to totally claim unlucky there either.
  16. If it was conditioning, you'd hope it was addressed after the first year. Growing into his body will hopefully add some strength, but shouldn't have much affect on conditioning.
  17. Yeah it really does depend on Gordon. That's two straight years with a second half collapse. That has to be a big red flag to at least a few evaluators. I could see Gordon having quite differing evaluations from different organizations. I also think Kepler failed to take any kind of step forward this year, he still has value obviously, but I don't think it's super high on the trade front.
  18. They were 3-6 last year, and playing their third string QB, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. The Gophers were expected to be mediocre, and yet were 15 point favorites. EDIT: They were coming off a 28 point loss to powerhouse Central Florida, and were down another QB since. They aren't just bad, they are awful. And they rolled over us. Hopefully this is rock bottom, and a wake up call to the players and coaches that the game isn't played with nonsense cliches and catchphrases.
  19. GQ has a piece with Trump bragging about ignoring an 80 year old man with a serious head wound. At one point, he says he felt terrible- but not for the man, for the "beautiful white marble floor" getting covered in blood. And now we expect that man to have empathy for hurricane victims? Right. He's acting exactly as his history showed he would. Nobody who voted for him gets to act surprised or outraged by any of this. This is who he's always been, he didn't try to hide it.
  20. I think his point is that if he's ready to play he should be in the lineup, not on the bench. I agree. I don't care if he hasn't seen live pitching in a decade, if he's healthy I want him in the lineup.
  21. You wouldn't have Archer, Santana, and Berrios in that rotation, because the only way the Rays even consider that is if the 40 man starter in your hypothetical is Berrios.
  22. You have to think Maryland on a third string QB is going to be the easiest Big10 opponent on the schedule, right? Forget .500, I'd be searching for a conference win.
  23. And this is why I hate scheduling cupcakes in non conference. Those games should NOT count towards bowl eligibility- that would discourage teams from scheduling them. You get a false (and meaningless) sense of their abilities. This defense is getting shredded by a team that was mediocre at best, before they were down to their third string QB. It also is terrible at preparing a team for conference play. They suddenly find themselves playing against a team that actually is capable of beating them after playing zero competition all nonconference season. The rules need to change, because as they stand now I totally get why a mediocre team is tempted to get 3 or 4 free wins towards a bowl berth.
  24. I dont care if Sano has been in a coma since August. If he's medically available I want him batting cleanup.
  25. Averaging 7 innings per start would be 231 IP over a full season. Does anyone do that anymore?
