  1. It's not about money. In a final ARB year, a good player is going to get paid. It's about having him on the team. You don't get to just choose to pay a player. They become a free agent, they can go anywhere. Service time rules are collectively bargained. This isn't an example of owners imposing their will on helpless players. There are plenty of examples of that without making something that isn't into one of them.
  2. Buxton has an option remaining. They don't need to manipulate anything to hide him.
  3. Well the same argument can be made about cops planting evidence, yet we have seen them do it on camera. Several similar examples, from politicians to people running ponzi schemes- despite the fact its not mathematically possible for one to continue for very long. Most humans, almost always incorrectly, think they are smart enough to get away with it. So they often don't weigh the pros/cons as logically as you just did. I very much doubt that anything humans do that is supposed to be random, is actually random. Whether that's drug testing, security checks, DUI checkpoints, etc.
  4. The tone when he was initially suspended was quite different. The majority feeling, IIRC, was that they had a deep lineup, and wouldn't miss him.
  5. He didn't skip rehab. He only had 2 days remaining on his rehab eligibility (migraines) when he came up. If a player sustains a new injury (toe) during a rehab stint, they MUST be recalled and be INACTIVE (but on roster) for at least 5 games before they can start a new rehab assignment. Which explains all the days off since he was recalled.
  6. Which publications had all those players projected as all stars? Certainly not any that I saw. I'd have been shocked to see a publication projecting anyone in our rotation, except maybe Berrios, as an all star. Most places had them projected as a roughly .500 team, give or take, so they are roughly right as projected.
  7. ESPN reporting that Ervin Santana has been shut down, and sent to see a specialist. I never believed the club for a second when they said May 1st return, that was borderline preposterous, IMO. I also haven't thought he'd ever be the same again after the surgery, certainly not this season. Anyone rethinking their expectations from Santana at this point?
  8. I don't think anyone is saying it's a negative thing. But it's definitely a subjective measurement, that is hard to measure. Coupled with the fact that you can never truly know for sure what kind of person someone is.
  9. But there are guys drafted/signed at 16-18 years old, all over the league, who were every bit as raw as Buxton who come up and become stars right away. I'm not saying Buxton can't still become a star, but I don't think his struggles can be dismissed with a general rule that young raw draft picks take a long time to develop.
  10. Yeah, the Twins get a full extra season in his prime, at the expense of 2 less starts his rookie season. It's a no brainer.
  11. But doesn't forfeiting that pick also mean forfeiting that assigned portion of bonus pool?
  12. I thought they had to forfeit a pick for signing Lynn?
  13. The Twins are 22-27 by baseruns, exactly the same as their record. Their record doesn't appear to be caused by luck, either way.
  14. We don't know that until/unless they spend that money though. Both sides are speculating
  15. Do we know that the Twins gave up on him? He was a milb free agent, the Twins may have wanted him back and he decided to go elsewhere.
  16. Because there is also no incentive to doing it before you need to. Free up a place for what? Guys on the 40 man earn more money, so they aren't going to arbitrarily add someone just because they have an opening. When they need to add someone, that's when they'll free up the spot.
  17. 40 is the maximum roster size. There is no minimum.
  18. And there is also more value with that pick than just the amount of WAR he would or would not produce. He could become a prospect that has trade value (like Palacios), or they could use that slot value to go over on a different pick.
  19. I wouldn't expect to see Erv anytime soon.
  20. Morrison's 2019 option isn't a mutual option. It's a team option, that becomes guaranteed with 600 PA's.
  21. Escobar is a starter, at least until Polanco comes back.
  22. Romero isn't up because of injuries. Santana was out long before the season started. There have been no other injuries to the starting rotation. Romero was clearly their first option to come up if Hughes struggled in the 5th starter role, which he did. If the front office wanted Romero to still be in AAA, he'd still be in AAA. They could have called up Mejia or Slegers if they wanted to keep Romero down.
  23. Morrison has an .814 OPS in May. Why do you want to bench him?
